Critic, Femi Fani-Kayode has said the various prayer sessions being conducted by former Military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon remain a waste if he does not apologise to the Igbo over the genocide against the group during the Civil War.

Fani-Kayode, in a statement on
Monday said 300 Igbo army
officers, including an Igbo Head of State, were murdered on July 29th, 1966 by northern army officers, while 30,000 innocent and defenceless Igbo civilians (many historians say the figure is actually over 100,000) were slaughtered between September and December
1966 by savage and barbaric
northern mobs in three separate pogroms in the north before the outbreak of the Nigerian civil war.

“Finally 3 million innocent and
defencless Igbo civilians, including one million children, were targeted and butchered by the Nigerian Army and the northern “Gwodo-Gwodo” auxiliaries and militias during the Nigerian civil war between 1967 and 1970,” he said.

Fani-Kayode said if the Nigerian
people really wanted their fortunes to change for the better and that if they really wanted to be restored to the great and prosperous nation
and people that they once were, they needed to ask the Lord for forgiveness for what they did and what they were still doing to the Igbo nation.

“General Yakubu Gowon can
conduct all the prayer sessions that he wants for Nigeria but until he acknowledges the fact that the genocide that the Igbo people were subjected to under his watch between 1966 and 1970 was unacceptable and until he appeals to the Igbo nation to forgive Nigeria for what we did to them, things will get from bad to worse.

“Though it is unknown to most, our nation has been afflicted with a deep spiritual wound which was inflicted as a consequence of our barbaric actions over the years and
particularly before and during the civil war. This is a spiritual matter and sadly and regrettably we see its consequences unfolding in the
physical realm before our very
eyes every day.

“The shedding of innocent blood always results in divine retribution and it goes from generation to generation. Unless remorse is displayed, forgiveness sought and national repentance is established the cycle of divine retribution and judgement will continue unabated and affect the lives of millions.

“The civil war “Gwodo-Gwodo” militias, made up of savage, bloodthirsty, heartless, godless, dark and evil men from Chad, Niger Republic, Mali and parts of north-western Nigeria are the spiritual forefathers and the same dark
forces that have resurrected as
terrorist and killer herdsmen that are slaughtering our people ALL over the country today,” he added.

According to Fani-Kayode, “the whole thing has come back to torment and haunt us and only God can deliver us from their hand. The fastest way to make your nation the land of the accursed and rejected is by continuously
shedding innocent blood and
showing no remorse for it.

“We must recognise and accept this, we must endavour to stop the violence and killings, we must beg God and our victims for forgiveness and we must do the right thing. Anything short of that will not put us on the road to
redemption and restoration. May God open our eyes to see and accept these harsh realities and may He guide, help and lead us in all our endeavours.”

Lol. This Fani Kayode knows how to press the Igbo folks mumu button. They are the only true fans he had so he always tries everything to entertain them to maintain his audience.

He even called himself the Lion on twitter and the Igbos are hailing him to also show their loyalty to him, hence he needs to constantly play on their emotion to keep his fan base intact.

Gowon should apologize so we can have another news to entertain ourselves with.

Fani Kayode is just having fun with the emotions of the Igbo man.

It seems he wants to trend this week with this, he already knows the mumu button he is supposed to press so that they can start dancing for him.

Pure truth is always like the day time which you cannot use mirror to check.

His region is paying for evil he and his fellow committed.
I believe he know the truth but failed to do it, but now FFK has pointed it out for him.

A man of honour would have done that a very long time ago since lives were involved and for the sake of co-existence

Great leaders are not born, they are made!!!

And if he thinks otherwise, Gowon should pray that such befalls his family and generations

Whichever way you looked at it, innocent lives was lost!!!

FFK is nothing but a slowpoke. The pogrom though unacceptable was self inflicted. The civil war was unnecessary and avoidable but Ojukwu singlehandedly decided to go on an egoistic mission that resulted in the murder of over 2million Igbos. If anybody should be apologizing at all, it is Ojukwu and the misguided Igbo officers that executed the January 15, 1966 mutiny.

Don't mind the fools!

Fact of the matter is these people would sooner chop sand than agree the Nigerian state (of which they were in control of at the time) needs to apologise to Ndigbo for anything! Apologising means they admit wrongs were committed against the Igbo, and that for us to move forward as a nation said wrongs would have to be addressed!

Their attitude is: angryhow dare you ask me to apologise to a people i feel are beneath me.....how bloody dare you! angry

And the Igbo should not apologize for the first coup right? Until you Igbo learn to be balanced in your reasoning, you can’t move forward. The first coup was unnecessary and beget the second coup.

Whether he apologises or not, the north is already suffering the result of their actions.

Are they not the poverty capital of Nigeria and the world?

Are they still not educationally backwards by a far distance?

Is boko haram and their killings not domicilled in the north?

Fulani herdsmen attack taking place more in their land.

Shiites trouble na their land.

Who cares about his apology?

The north is still not progressing better than Igbos today despite the war so nothing concern us with his apology.

it seems Fani Kayode have forgotten the three R's implemented by Gowon. Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction. Is this not more than an apology? Gowon even went on to say no Victor no vanquish. How many times did Ojukwu apologized to the Igbo nation and everyone for embarking on a war uncalled for. Go and learn more about what preceded the counts coup on Ironsi. if Ironsi had did the needful then there won't be any FFK spewing thrash. Don't play victim card with ethnicity. if right is right let it be right, if wrong is wrong then say it is wrong.

There was absolutely no need for the January 15, 1966 coup and there is no need whatsoever for any coup at the moment. We had a parliamentary system of government then and a presidential system of government now. Anybody that is interested in changing the government should do so through the electoral system.

Go and reread my post, and it will dawn on you (that's if you don't know already) how silly you sound!

The Nigerian state was responsible for the protection of the lives and property of ALL Nigerians, of which Igbos were part of! This did not happen!! Even when Ojukwu assured Easterners that the Nigerian gov't would put a lid on the pogroms in the north and that they should stay where they are, he was later proved wrong as the slaughtering continued! This was what ultimately led to the declaration of Biafra! Now are you saying that the Nigerian state (of which the northerners were running and Gowon was the figurehead at the time) does not owe Ndigbo in particular, and Easterners in general an apology for failing to prevent their slaughter up north?

Conversely, you posit that Ndigbo should apologise for the actions of Nzeogwu and co! Just listen to (abi na read) yourself! Care to point out where and when Ndigbo had a meeting and decided to send the coupists on their deadly mission? Have you checked how many of said coupists were from present day Delta state.....a state your ilk say Ndigbo had better remove eye from, that they're not Igbo!? How many coups have since been carried out by northern elements in the Nigerian army.....have you asked their ethnicities/regions to apologise too, or does that rule only apply to Igbos?

You say the first coup was 'unnecessary', as if subsequent ones were 'necessary'! You know what you're doing, as you want to separate the first coup from subsequent ones in the minds of Nigerians....tag it a 'Igbo coup'......and then use said tag to vilify an entire ethnic group and justify whatever wicked actions and negative sentiments you display towards them!

I keep on telling my people that we're sharing the same country with utterly remorseless and malevolent creatures, and that the sooner they realise this and agitate to separate from these vermin (or at least be insulated from their wickedness within the framework of a 'one Nigeria') ...the sooner they realise this the better! We can never thrive and reach our full potential as a people with this current anti-Igbo set-up and this is the stark truth!

Can you tell me what was done in the East.....particularly South-East, which saw most of the devastation and whose people lost the most during the uncivil war?

You 'one Nigeria', Igbo-hating individuals just listen to one side of the story and form an opinion based solely on what you tell yourselves!
