I would rather opt for them to buy these things from their salary and allowances. It’s rather ridiculous that poor country like Nigeria would allocate huge funds for stuff like this. I fear for the future of this country, cos when oil will become obsolete, the Venezuela situation would be child’s play CaptBabosa: |

It is not about the laws but about the people. Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. We need national repentance. We need a moral revolution. Nigeria has too many wrongs. My problem is that leaders, past or present pretend that they can mend things without first accepting that we as a people need to make amends. Our values are wrong, so wrong that we celebrate thieves. It is the same wrong values that will make soldiers to silence police officers, allegedly to free a suspect! It is the same wrong values that make public officers at clerical levels, demand bribes before they do their public duties. Every where you turn you see rot. Let no one pretend that a nation can muddle through with this kind of orientation. It will amount to mere delusion. We are not ready yet. We make gains, but there a thieving leaders and civil lords (not servants) lurking in the corner to rubbish all the gains. Repentance has to start today. It is not about north, south or west. Even that creates this terrible feeling of 'its our turn', turn to do what exactly? Repentance now. Moral revolution now. Values re-orientation now. I mean now. |

Dwizeone:I can assure you that the estimated useful life of fixed assets like Motor Vehicles (according to IRS rules) is 5years, not 3years. And after the estimated useful life, you do not necesarily do away with the asset, it only does not come in anymore on the debit side of the balance sheet. I doubt they were interested in proper accounting. Only how to steal taxpayers' money. |

post=81208739: All the listed above is LooOong thing. Best is to place all the Law-Makers under same miñimum wage and Accord them same benefits with the level of Civil Servant in the country. Restrict them and their families from Traveling Abroad for the period of their stay in public office. If this two things çan be put in place, trust me Nigeria will be better than the Western/European countries. 1 Like |

richidinho: They should not only scrap the bicameral legislature and replace it with a unicameral legislature. They should also consider sitting on part time. How many bills are they passing in a year? How much have they even touch or impacted on the lives of the people in their respective constituency? Nigeria political leadership waste money that should have been used to provide social infrastructure for the citizenry. |

post=81208739: In reality if you were benefiting from this largess you would not complain, nobody will ever complain! Not even the Canadian doctors. Spare me the news where Canadian doctors protested increased salary. After doing some research on it, I realised that the so-called increased salary would have them pay more taxes, which does not significantly improve (or in some peculiar cases it even reduces) their take home pay!...and a lot of other demerits, hence the protest. Similar to when a previous Governor of one of our South East states announced automatic promotion for all staff in the state civil service. It sounds good to the ears, but did you know that governor readjusted the salary structure of the state such that the "automatic promotion" was in reality a reduction in the workers salary. This country (and surprisingly some 1st world countries) as I have come to realise are riled with crazy problems that I do not even know how to address. I am furious 1 Like |

So to get new tv sets for each lawmaker is 2m. Each office will have two t.v sets, that is 4m per senator, multiply that by 109senators, and that's over 400m not taking into account, S.P and D.S.P who might be entitled to 4/5 tv sets. When you add up with the crooks in the green chamber, that equates to over a 1b for tv sets for our lawmakers? And even worse when a new Assembly is elected, new t.v sets are gotten for them, the "old" ones(4years old) are sold at giveaway prices to the outgoing legislators. What do we even need this bicameral legislature for? Can't the House of Reps be scrapped, so we have a unicameral legislature? But who will bell the cat? The Constitution gives the House of Reps a big role to play in Constitutional amendment. Will d Houuse of Reps sanction an amendment that sends it to oblivion? The Senators need to be paid less, but will d Senators sanction a bill that lessens their allowance? Las Las, the only answer is a revolution. Even the Constitution which happens to be d ground norm, a very faulty one, agrees to the fact that there is a superior power, something bigger than it, something from whence it draws its powers. The opening words of the Constitution reads - *"we the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria"* Yes our leaders have failed us, but it is we Nigerians that have failed Nigeria. 1 Like |

blujoi: That's the problem! It is not right for them to spend their personal wages on purchasing government office equipment. Because they are lawmakers, they exploit the system to acquire these properties for themselves at the expense of public funds. It is wickedness! Even your Venezuela has people cashing out millions of dollars every month as it is today and would prefer the country is totally destroyed, than they stop getting their daily bread. |

rigarmortis:........i disagreed, in a nation where #30k is not been approved as a minimum wage. A nation whose graduates plans for there entire life after school, a nation which has no data base from the local, state government of it citizens. A nation which does not know the actual numbers of her unemployed youths. Hope you did remember what the Emir of Kano said....... "If the personal emoluments of the House of Assembly were slashed into half,it would be sufficient enough to employ 42,000 graduates and each shall earn the sum of #95,000 monthly for the next 35yrs.of service." Our political leaders are the viruses eating deep into our national pocket. Until we address this issue, we are sitting on a gun powder. |

I Laugh. When Kemi Adeosun first resumed as finance minister, one of her first initiative if not the first, was the idea of an efficiency unit. The unit was targeted at eliminating practices like these from our system at many levels. It was suppose to a unit that buys in bulk and of quality, recurring items in the MDAs and other government institutions centrally to help eliminate wastages. I can imagine those N2m TV being bought for 80k if the efficient unit idea was well followed. |

Does it make sense to furnish a senators office every 4years? The government budgets 70% of our earnings on recurrent expenditure, how do we cut down on cost of government? What happens when oil sells for peanuts? Would we still run such expenses? alphaNomega: |
