Foolish youths aplenty in Nigeria. The president that's working to improve the Nigerian economy by discouraging importation of foods that can be locally produced is who they're cursing.

Look at this wannabe presidential candidate who doesn't know a thing about governance speaking rubbish. I get it that, to be in the news you just have to oppose Buhari especially when you have lazy youths to applaud you.

Nonsense!

Someone is telling me about allowing CBN to be independent and I ask: who gets the blame if everything goes bad? Wasn't it the same Emefiele that released unappropriated billions to Dasuki and GEJ to loot in the name of fighting insurgency? Who bore the brunt? Not Nigerians?

Moghalu just wants to be heard. He is empty!

You are talking rubbish. How best do you encourage local production/producers other than making imported foods more expensive by restricting access to govt dollars? Wannabe Economist!

RUGA is for cattles=beef

Food importation includes all FOOD imports. Beef, chicken and diary products are under prohibited list, you cannot bring them in legally.

Other tribes in the North except Fulanis are known for agriculture.

There are Fulanis from neighbouring countries like Cameroon that already bring cattles to sell in our markets.

It is true that food cultivation has increased however it does not mean that we are sustainable. This is what you should be tackling.

We know he is not the best president, no one is also happy that herdsmen attack farms which by the way is not limited to the South alone. These issues are not enough reasons to stop thinking whenever Buhari says or does something.

ArmaniUhuru:
Stupid Government. The aim is to create artificial scarcity and leave an impression that without Fulani presence, hunger will kill Nigerians. In the process they will indirectly make case for RUGA. Look everything that this administration does is to implement RUGA. That is its only agenda.

That is an economist speaking. I wanted to answer the unlettered individual, but you have correctly said it all.
Barondenigeria:

You clearly have no formal education! If you had the slightest idea of basic economics, you would understand that a CBN restriction on forex for food importers will lead these importers to the black market where they would buy the dollar at higher rates. That cost will be shifted to we the consumers and eventually you'll have a "commodity price inflation".

Many of you Buharists are fantastically dull!

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana also had much to say on the issue…”If revolution has become a criminal offence in Nigeria why were the leaders of the APC not charged for claiming to have carried out Nigeria’s democratic revolution which terminated the 16-year rule of the PDP in 2015?” He remarked that the Force had capitalized on the use of the word “revolution” to criminalize the protests.

I guess we know who the real criminal is flaunting court orders and giving directives against the constitution.

Finito.

The point is he has no power to direct CBN. When politicians direct their central banks, investors get scared and also, what does he know about monetary policies? That job should be for an economist who understands economic tradeoffs. We are wher we are because of this. He takes one seemingly good decision which creates a bigger problem.

oh, I get the drift now.

The agricultural minsitry should take better measures to help farmers. It's a gradual process of tightening imports while at the same time helping boost local production. You don't just close the door to imports and them hope dat local production improves.

You can import food as you like.

The only issue here is that CBN would not be subsidising your dollar purchase.

He can say anything to win his case.

It is not.

Had Sowore succeeded by now, we would have had another period of uncertainty and upheaval, reminiscent of 2015, just after Buhari took over.

No president would fall for that. Certainly not a second time.

So the President who is vested with the power to appoint and also sack the CBN governor can not give directions to it. So the President should watch as the CBN policies destroy his promises to the people. Oga park well.

The president can appoint a CBN governor, but he cannot sack him! The CBN is independent.

Besides, if CBN is releasing money for food importation, it simply means there's a demand gap.

Unless Buhari is telling us that his farm in Daura can feed nearly 200 million Nigerians.

Perhaps he just wants the banker's bank to just provide FX for pilgrimages at N250 per $$ and tell businessmen to go and suck a lemon.

CBN should not be entirely left alone because the president receives all the blames of economic misfortune.

Moreover, the directive is a welcome development and should be extended to pilgrimage, medical and education trips abroad by all political holders and their families.

If you clearly read the statements, you would understand the need to strength our institutions; cbn, nnpc, police, efcc, judiciary etc...
Politician giving out directive freely like a yes command would not help develop our country. After is tenure a new full comes out with its own directives. No minding the fact that this are established bodies with Acts and mandate

And if people can't afford imported food because of "black market dollars" they will turn to local farmers, still win win for Nigeria

He said, although the hearing of the application was one-sided as provided by 27(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act, the use of the word, “may”, in the provision “is directory” and not “discretionary”.

To carry out investigation. Not a proof of a crime. By the way it was a one sided hearing. Which stresses bias.

Most Nigerians won't learn... The right thing is what the president said... But the policy is the right move at the wrong time .. An heterogeneous country like Nigeria shouldn't be governed by people who thinks linearly...

If by now we don't know that more ban and restrictions will indirectly force people to obtain things more illegally and making the black market more powerful where the central government have no control.

.. Our security agencies will sabotage what ever effort the federal government is making.. Same way forex dealers will do theirs.. We should focus on our strenght and not forcing our weakness.

We are too corrupt for such policy..

Rice ban should be a perfect example.

The hearing was one sided and the verdict was not a proof of crime. It is for the DSS to go and investigate. Which shows the DSS did not arrest Sowore because of a crime.

Stopping a lawful protest is criminal.

Finito.

That commodity price inflation on imported foods which are produced in Nigeria is exactly what we want. Nigerians are obsessed with foreign imports, so let them pay higher for them.
