Darivie04: 1. You cannot treat an infinite product as a series unless you take the logarithm and study it. 2. Also, in using D'Alembert ratio test, you cannot make any conclusion if the ratio is one in this case it's better to use Cauchy Condensation Test or Bertrand's test. 1 Like |

please I want solve this problem and I need guidance please.. someone should help/Guide me... here is the problem.. 1. obtain the angle between the lines 2y-4x+6=0 and y-2x-5=0 2.determine the distance between the line 4x-6y=6 and 3-3y+2x=0 3. Find the locus of a variable point P, if the distance of P from the X-axis is always three times its distance from the point (3, -3) please mathematicians/physicians in the house should help abeg |

Miracle112: here is the problem.. 1. obtain the angle between the lines 2y-4x+6=0 and y-2x-5=0Both lines are parallel since their slopes are equal hence the angle between them is zero. 2.determine the distance between the line 4x-6y=6 and 3-3y+2x=04x - 6y = 6 is equivalent to y = ⅔x - 1 . Also 3 - 3y + 2x = 0 is equivalent to y = ⅔x + 1 . Note that the distance, D between two parallel lines y = mx + a and y = mx + b is In your question, a = -1 , b = 1 , and m=⅔ Substituting and solving, we have that D = 6/√13 3. Find the locus of a variable point P, if the distance of P from the X-axis is always three times its distance from the point (3, -3) |y| = 3√[(x - 3)² + (y + 3)²] y²= 9[(x - 3)² + (y + 3)²] y² = 9( x² + y² - 6x + 6y + 18) 9x² + 8y² - 54x + 54y + 162 = 0 Completing the square and solving, you have (8/9)(x - 3)² + (64/81)(y + (27/8 ) )² = 1 This is an ellipse. please mathematicians/physicians in the house should help abegI have done that. It's physicists not physicians. |

|
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Darivie03: 5:43pm On Aug 13, 2019 |
MathsEconomics:No like I actually solved the problem. My solutions included complex numbers meaning one where x,y,z are real numbers doesn't exist. I solved it by factorizing equation 2 and 3 to obtain the values of x+y+z(given in the question to be 0), xyz(=6) and xy+yz+xz(=7). Then used the cubic equation idea you mentioned. |

Darivie03: There are actually two choices for t. t=±7 Here's a recurrence relation to use to confirm this.
