rvp20182:When you want to hide something from an I guess you didn't read the attached link.It says 73m people but in your haste to talk you thought the 73 stands for 73%.How dumb! 73m out of 200million for Nigeria is about the same percentage as 17million out of 50m for Kenya. If you consider that then you would see that your country is disgraceful and scum as well. You got little to celebrate. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Okay seen that - but considering even those that have - endure long period of darkness -- you power situation is pathetic. Kenya has been on one of world fastest electirification...we have moved from 12% to 75% (2019) - and are aiming for universal access by 2020-2022. samorobo:I just pointed it out to them how Kenya is also doing poorly according to that map. Just look at Botswana on that map. 1 million people out of a population of 2million lack access to electricity in Botswana. That's a whopping 50%! Worse than nigeria's case. Yet they'd tell us how Botswana is a success story with high HDI. The same with Congo Brazzaville. At times I don't understand these foreign organizations. 2 Likes |

Before we go to kenya - Let digress....to the laggard NIGERIA> Nigeria has always claimed to have about 50-60% of electricity access. Of course, we know such data is doggy because your NEPA would have like 25-30M customers. I assume an average of 5-6 individuals per household in a 180-200m population - roughly 40-50M households. Can you gives us breakdown of electricity connection in Nigeria - number of customers in those power (less) companies. Kenya in 2002 had 12% of it's citizen connected to electricity. KPLC (Kenya Power Co) had I think about 300,000 customers. Right now KPLC have more than 7M customers (Households).Kenya has made TREMENDOUS progress in electricity connection and has been lauded for that. Kenya has population - 47-50M (we will know in 3 months after census next week) - with about 12M households. As we speak we still have about 4M households...roughly 16m people (4 individual per household) not connected to electricity. We are razing towards connecting that 4M household either to main or off-grid solutions so we can achieve universal electricity access. Then we will worry about the prices & consumption. Our power is already very reliable and stable. Let us not talk about blackouts and generators for now. Aderr: 1 Like |

Let try to find out the real electricity coverage in Nigeria. NEPA (That was like our Kenya Power) was split into 11 DISCOs ..all heavily indebted and bankrupt now. “Nigeria had 9.5 million electricity customers in 2016 (NERC projection). The number of customers per disco varies widely, from 345,000 (Yola) to 1,750,000 (Ibadan). 9.5M customers - in a country of 200M - assuming household of 5 on average - 40M (The average household size in Nigeria is 5.0 person) NIGERIA REAL ELECTRICITY ACCESS is 10/40= aka 25% Kenya - 2019 Kenya Power has said the number of consumers connected to electricity stands at 7.1 million, a 30 per cent increase from last year. Bottom line: Kenya has 7M households connected to high-quality reliable electricity. Nigeria has 9.5M (2016) connected to lowest quality of power imaginable in planet earth. 9.5M are powering a 500B make-believe GDP economy Kenya Power - are adding a million-plus (30% growth rate annual) new customers and by 200-2020 - will probably have overtaken Nigeria --and soon we will have 12M (all kenyans) connected to electricity. Assuming a population of 47M (KNBS) - now - with an average household size of 4.4 - there are at least 10.7M household in Kenya - with 7.1M connected -- giving electricity coverage of 67% 2 Likes |
