his papers were not expired. Green cards are issued to last for 10 years, and tey are renewable every 10 years as long as you stay off crime and mind your own business.... BUT my naija people fail to read and understand a little print at the back of green cards that "this document can be withdrawn by the US government anytime" . This means, if you commit any crime, your papers can be cancelled. Some naija will start doing medicaid fraud, yahoo yahoo and other illegal things to make it quickly so they can come shine in naija and boasts, walking as if they are flying in the air with so much pride and what have you - once they get a green card, i look at them and laugh silently, they forget to know that "they are not citizens of the U.S. yet and can be deported even with that green card"

I have heard of many who have had green card long enough to petition for citizenship but they cannot do it because they already soiled their hands in one or two records of crimes here and there - situations as little as domestic assault or spousal abuse, even a case of verbal abuse between two people that was documented by the police. so they will not pass an FBI background check --- To become green card holder is hard enough, to become a US citizen no be beans o!

Then when you finally become a US citizen, still - stay away from crime because if you become a felon, you can be denied social security and other social benefits that normal citizens get easily.
