The most balanced midfield we've had in recent times in terms of profile has to be the 2013 AFCON mid of Mikel, Onazi and Sunday Mba. Mikel as the DLP dictating play from deep Onazi as the destroyer buzzing around to break up play MBA as the box to box midfielder making those late 3rd man runs into the penalty box. It's a shame we haven't been able to find that balance in midfield since then. 2 Likes |

Earthquake1:Not in the context you were putting it in regards of Etebo. We all know what it means in terms of positioning. You can't use the term "ball holding" to describe someone who is only good at dictating play. Saying Etebo is not a good "ball holder" doesn't make sense based on your definition. He can/does retain possession by his ball carrying skills/"hugging of the ball" but he doesn't keep the ball ticking aka dictating play. |

edi287: Ok he loses possession many times, his pass accuracy is low How can you then describe him as a ball holder? |

Ehizibue was caught ball napping as Hakimi comes from behind to head in what might be the winner. He had a stellar performance tonight but that cheeky mistake may have undone all his right. There's always a lesson to take home |

Earthquake1:He hardly losses possession that much. Rohr is misusing him by playing him as the deepest option. Funny enough, Whoscored contradicts both of us...

Should Iwobi maintain consistency, then it would be a no brainer to build this team around him. He is a class above his team mates 8 Likes |

Earthquake1: Etebo doesn't.play defensive midfield role at Stoke .he doesn't play as a defensive midfielder for the super eagles either but as a deep lying CM..the role Mikel was supposed to play... Rohr is found of using two deep lying midfielders..before Onazi got dropped from the team,he was starting alongside Ndidi...two DMs at the same time...where would the creativity come from when the wingers themselves are always instructed to track back? 1 Like |

Danielnino00: Etebo's role was not the reason he wasn't able to maintain possession, he played throughout the Afcon but couldn't dominate possession He had Ndidi as an excellent cover and you're giving excuses why he couldn't dominate midfield 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Danielnino00(m): 10:29pm On Aug 23, 2019 |
Earthquake1: Where did I mention dominating the midfield? Etebo's pace and stamina makes him more useful as a box to box midfielder than a deep lying CM ..He proved that with las Palmas in laliga.. He can do much better in the national team if he is given a free role...Rohr is always using employing a double pivot midfield... Imagine if he decided to use Aribo in that role too? It would limit his performance and we may start saying "he isn't good", " he is overrated ". 2 Likes |

andrew44444: I still remain a huge fan of Renato Sanches. The young man is gracious on the ball and I feel he is under utilised. He needs a side that will allow him have a lot of touches. A side that plays possessive football. Then he will flourish. Wish him the best at Lille. |

Earthquake1: Etebo is not a DLP. He's more in the front than the back when CM roles are divided. once again consult the link I sent you. |

Danielnino00: Etebo goes forward most of the time leaving Ndidi behind (especially when Iwobi switches off) |
