Back in the days, not attending church for just 1 sunday in a month makes one feel so guilty and incomplete but nowadays, one can stay months without attending church or any church program.
It is even getting more worst as one gets more learned and exposed.
Can I maintain my relationship with God without attending church on Sundays?
Could this affect my faith?if yes, how can I rekindle my zeal for attending church on Sundays?

Have you seen where your zeal or passion is, which is for attending church? Should your zeal be towards going to church? Should you not be rather zealous to be a part of in the kingdom of God, which is to come, when it shall come?

Churches these days confuse one the more.

A Chosen woman invited me to their church for a Crusade. It was at their Headquarter Ijesha. So I obliged and went for the Crusade. One day My own Church All Saints Anglican Church Surulere had her own Crusade and I invited her, I was shocked at her respond. She said, 'God forbid! How can I leave light and go to darkness'

That was the day I lost it for Churches in Nigeria

You let the myopia of an overzealous person stop you from benefitting from others?

This is one of the things I hate most about church people. One brother, years ago, wanted to convert me by force to be his church member, always disturbing me with calls and text messages when he knew I had a church I was attending.

When I got admission into the University in 2011. One Bro Chris took me as a subject that I must join his church and go for immersion baptism. He went as far as telling me then that his church is the only place that will save me from school cultists. As a year 1 student then I almost believed him grin

I love to just chill on Sundays, relaxing. I can't be stressing myself very early on a Sunday morning after having a hectic weekday plus Saturdays at times. Thankfully I can attend evening mass during the week so to me its not a must to go on Sundays.

I believe so far your relationship with God is good and you treat your fellow humans fairly, its not a must to go to church every Sunday. Some take church as a social club, some go on Sundays cuz they don't want people to start asking questions on why they didn't go. Nobody can dare ask me any question when its not like I come to beg you for anything so why would you want to dictate how I live my life. Whatever I choose to do on Sundays is between me and God and a pure heart is better than marching to church on Sundays.

your relationship with God has nothing to do with church.
John 3:16 says whosoever believes in him, not whosoever go to church.

attending church on Sundays?
Could this affect my faith?
first of all, you have to understand what your faith is.
Your faith is believing in Christ for your salvation. Is that synonymous to church going?
No!

if yes, how can I rekindle my zeal for attending church on Sundays?
if you truly want to attend church, make friends with people in church who they either benefit from you or you benefitting from them.
You must have a target of a tangible thing you want to achieve in church.
Whether you want to enjoy the relationship with the people or you may need some financial help which will require them seeing you coming to church all the time.

Op anybody advising you that your relationship with God does not depend on church is an Anti Christ. David said in psalm 69 vs 9 the zeal of your house has consumed me. Note that most people who go to church are not doing so because they love Jesus but because of what the church will do for them, once they get what they want they stop coming. And when you felt guilty about not going, your conscience was pricking you but the conscience is gentle and would not bother you any longer that why you feel peaceful. Nothing would happen, heaven would not fall infact the Love of Jesus for you would not change if you dont go to church but the Holy Spirit is no longer there because if he was you would do everything possible to go to church.

When you are talking about church, stop quoting old testament. Are u sure David was talking about church here. not until New testament, there was nothing like church.

Are u sure both are word of God? but when it comes to practicing the same word of God, then u start analysing and differentiating them.

i dont, both are the word of God. The old testamemt talked about Jesus while the New testament is the fulfillment. Anybody differentiating them is an Antichrist.

I have Jesus already.
I don't need their financial help so I can't possibly go to church though I go once in a while just to enjoy the service with friends grin
But they should reserve it for church members who need it, infact, that is what they should be doing with all the tithe money, helping people!

You need to have personal relationship/encounter with God, ask Him where he want you to serve. Same thing happened to me some years back. In my own case, I was almost an atheist but I fought with that spirit within me. I prayed that prayer and God answered, God led me to where I worship today in a miraculous way.

Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promisedwink
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

God to church with the purpose of adding and not just receiving.
Re: I Have Lost My Zeal For Attending Church by Nobody: 2:01am On Aug 27, 2019
My brother, the church is you and I, the temple is no longer a building but the body of every believer.
With that being said, no one should run the christain race alone. Even though our relationship with Christ is personal,we still need a community of believers to help us through the journey as we are called to live a counter cultured life from our society. Living the kind of life we are called to live is going to be almost impossible if you try to go at it alone, that's why we need to be part of a community where we motivate eachother, remind eachother of what's right and what's wrong, drawing strength from one another in times need, holding one another accountable, praying together, worshipping together etc.... Like the writer of Hebrews wrote:
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near: Hebrews 10:25
As others have said, maybe try getting involved in a group in ur church or join a small church in the area or at the very least have other bible believing friends that u guys meet regularly(this has its limitations but atleast, u still have people walking with u)
The concept of "all I need is a personal relationship with God and that's all" is a half truth. The race is personal but at the same time we need a community to help us along the way.
Enjoy ur week boss.

@ topic

We tend to worry at the idea of people not attending church, and just throw scriptures at them while insisting they come.

And refusing to accept they might have valid reasons for skipping church service.

Although of course our attitude is understandable from a financial and power based viewpoint.

But ignoring the fact that if you are not in a church clique (especially if it's a Nigerian church) , you're not likely to have a good time, does not handle the problem.
