The sad fact is for soldiers deployed to call them strange equipment. This means our army and its officers don't keep abreast of their industry.
We expect a doctor or car mechanic to know new treatments or diagnostic tools, so I expect my army to know of military hardware out there.

That's the essence of military courses even if no practical they can have pictures of latest or current vehicles and equipment used for modern war fare.
Strange equipment in deed

The military equipment was being transported by human beings when it was intercepted. Did the equipment not originate from somewhere? Was there no destination for the equipment?

Which African country?
It originate from somewhere, but I can't disclose that here. I can't disclose some information here.

I guess order from abuja came to give it back to customs who will redeliver the consignment to terrorists.
why can't the military seize it and make it their own?
Nigeria is compromised and you know it.
Even the military have lost its spirit, obeying useless orders.
whatever is their plan will be resisted if not by patriotic Nigerians it will resisted by igbos led by ipob
The military can't seize equipment just like that and start using. It does not work like that, custom are in charge of goods or equipment brought into the country while immigration are in charge of people that enter the country. While the army is to protect against external threats. Everybody has their roles. If is been confirm which Africa military owns the equipment and is not a threat to national security, it will be return back. They may be ask to pay fine for not following proper channel.

The Nigeria military know the name of the hardware, which country use similar hardware and the year it was manufactured. What they mean by "strange" is that they are not aware of it intention to pass through our country. They were not inform. The owner refused to follow proper channels. The proper thing to do was to inform our govt, then our govt will inform the customs, police and army. The customs, police and army will wait for them at the border, while the army and the police will escort them thru our country.

Nigeria is gradually deteriorating into Afghanistan.

The indices speak very loudly for itself.
- high level of illiteracy
- corruption on all levels of government and society
- youth unemployment
- no sign of indigenous industrialization
- terrorism
- kidnapping
- very poor government policies
- Snail speed development when other countries are on hi-tech already.

How can these heavy duty military equipment pass through our borders illegally and almost in the hands of terrorists without proper clearance?

May we not wake up one morning and discover the country has been sold illegally to Niger Republic.

God save Nigeria.

There are many government cohabiting in the geographical territory delineated Nigeria.

Government of Boko Haram in the North... Government of Ipob in the east,
Government of corruption (Bullion van thieving specialists) in the west and
Government of Kidnapping in the south....

All of these government have reps in Abuja...
A ticking time bomb.... that's Nigeria.

According to Premium Times, Nigerian soldiers manning a checkpoint in Adamawa State have intercepted six mine resistance vehicles that seemed to have been transported into Nigeria without due process.

The military personnel, attached to the Nigerian Army 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, seized the equipment in Fufore Local Government Area this week.

The Nigerian Army could not immediately verify the ownership of the equipment, where they were being
shipped from and their destination, PREMIUM TIMES learnt from military sources.

Although the Nigerian Army headquarters has directed an urgent investigation into the discovery, the equipment have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the interim.

On Saturday, the commander of 23 Armoured Brigade, S.G. Mohammed, handed over the vehicles to the comptroller of Customs in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, Olumoh Kamaldeen, at a ceremony in Konkol, Fufore LGA, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

It is not immediately clear whether suspects have been arrested. It is illegal to import such equipment without an end-user certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which is the only federal agency with powers to issue such document.

The development could further upset security agencies, who have continued to grapple with acute insecurity and violence across the country.

Security analysts regularly question how terrorists and other criminals acquire weapons they have used to keep the country under siege for many years, urging security and intelligence agencies to devote more time to understanding the complex web of illicit arms movement.

The latest seizure of six mine-resistance all terrain vehicles (MATV) came three months after a Nigerian politician, Ibikunle Amosun, handed over weapons he had illegally stockpiled for several years to the police.

Mr Amosun kept the weapons for several years at Government House, Abeokuta, until his last day in office when he realised he would no longer enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution.

The police have failed to arrest the former governor, now a serving senator, despite the widespread uproar and concerns amongst Nigerians that prosecuting Mr Amosun could serve as deterrence to other politicians involved in proliferation of deadly arms across the country.

It should be "unauthorized", I really don't know who is dumber between the Nig press, Customs, army or the readers?

I knew it! They were coming to Africa. Those belong to the RAF. But what is the Customs doing handshaking the army?

We really need to be careful of how the country is used as a dumpster.

The pics are not great but from my view they look like the USA made Oshkosh JLTV. They can be classed to to some degree as MRAP but a lot lighter and much more manoeuvrable.

These items can be procured directly from the USA however looking at them they seem used and therefore l will be looking at a number of Arab countries.

That opens up a whole can of possibilities if the right process of procurement wasn't followed.

My suspicion is that they have been procured by an Islamic majority Northern state government with friendly political links with Saudis and or Emirates.

Just my speculation.

The destination of these heavy military machines is Niger republic.
After all Niger uses Nigeria sea ports to transport goods to and from their landlocked country.

I too know how to spin a story.

Very much doubt it.

Niger already has allowed the US to have a Drone base on thier territory and a number of special forces units in operation there.

If the US wants to bring in some JLTV's it can drop them off at its air base in Niger. You can get about 15 JLTV in a C5 transport.

So they USA have no need to be transporting thier JLTV on the roads.

My reason for saying this was that the RAF recently left Afghanistan and I can bet that some of the equipment were sold off to warlords. Who the suspicion is, you might be right.

Don't be surprised this same Army in search of the owners or importers of these vehicles are the real owners, but due to zero cohesion and information dissemination within their ranks, they'd first embarrass themselves before the entire world.

Boko Haram wouldn’t use the ports when the desert is there. They’ll rather transport their weapons through the Sahara down to Northern Borno State. These vehicles could be owned by a state government or some politicians trying to improve the sophistication of their political thugs.

You think a bloody Nigerian politician can gain access to an Oshkosh?
You guys live in a world of dumb assumptions. Who will sell it to the politician?
You think Mraps are sold off the shelf like a box of candy? Damn! Nigerians. How did I find myself amidst people that think like this?

Which backing do they have? Armed herdsmen have been arrested in many states. Many have been secretly killed in the middle belt that are not reported, so what are you yapping. Do some Google research and see.

Besides, only a slave like you would come publicly and tell the world that fulani, a tribe that is minority and inferior to your own tribe, can do what they like. By so doing, you publicly confirm that you are a slave and your destiny is controlled by the fulanis. You lack shame. And I can guess you are yoruba.
An SE/SS man will never glorify fulani. Never. We match them one for one. They can never control our destiny. And we will never surrender nor come to nairaland to say that inferior fulanis can do whatever they like. The way you surrender your helplessness to fulani is pathetic. And shame. Big Shame.

This is the Oshkosh M-ATV is a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.

Built in the US and used by some armies. It is deployed in Somalia and 2 other African countries.
