Well, that aside, few weeks ago I was looking for a mini flat so I contacted an agent , To my surprise this guy took me to an apartment that the toilet and kitchen had no windows just an opening in the ceiling and he kept shouting "it's good for you, its good for you!!!"

Has anyone been in similar situation?..please share your experiences.

My dear, if I start to talk, we will not finish. What my eyes have seen in the past two months, my mouth cannot tell it all.
I just collected keys to an apartment this morning.
Only God can give someone this kind of apartment we just paid for.
Agents are something else. Very few are sent from heaven

Hehehehehe oga these agents no care oooh ..their own nah agent and agreement dem wan chop .... last week my guy wey dey find self contain go check where one agent carry am go.... the guy said as the reach the place the room long like ibadan road con narrow like heavens way ...meanwhile toilet and bathroom dey outside the room .... kitchen dey close to the entrance gate... baba just call me dey hala for me like say i be agent ..the guy dey swear for the agent till today.... to find house for Lagos nah something else.

Meanwhile, how much does a single room or self contain cost in Elekor area of Lagos

This reminds me about the funny experience I had with an Agent early this year while trying to change my accommodation. I made the agent understood that I needed two bedroom flat with all the specifications I wanted in it. After inspecting a whole lot of buildings with none meeting my expectations, the Agent now linked me with another Agent. the new Agent told me about one available two bedroom flat that met all my expectations, even boasted that I would surely like it. But the first red flag was the rent, which was extremely cheaper than the normal two bedroom flat in the area. the agent was even boasting that I needed to pay fast because a lot of other people were interested in it.
Now the reality set in when we got into a very spacious compound with about three different sections of Two storey buildings. I was even looking up with happiness, because in my mind, I love spacious environment and topmost apartment because of ventilation. I was about to tell the Agent that I preferred the upstair when he pointed at an entrance that was locked, and the window that we could barely see. This is because the window itself was underground, just a very small fraction could be seen from the surface. That was when the Agent now come up that it was actually an underground apartment.
if I say I was terrified, it is an understatement, because it was not supposed to be meant for sane human being. from my observations, if you enter the apartment, you would barely see or hear anything happening outside. Anytime it rains, na OYO you dey.
I made him understand that I've never entered one before, not to talk of living in one. I made him understand that I have the fear of anything underground not to talk of living in one.
That was when this Agent started boasting that I would actually like it that he lived in one when he was in Enugu and that Underground apartment is the best place to live. I kicked against it but my brother that we went there together told me to be patience, at least to satisfy our curious even when we knew we won't go for it.
fortunately for me, we were told that the landlord was sleeping and nobody dare wake him up anytime he is sleeping. so we concluded on checking it the following day.
I made up my mind that this one is out of it.
The following conversations ensued the following day between the Agent and I:
Me: Good morning Sir.
Agent: Good morning, are we set to go and inspect the building now?
Me: No Sir, I've made up my mind that I can't live in that building, so we need to check others.
Agent: Don't mind the landlord, who is going to rent that kind of building, it is only meant for the prisoners, or for rearing chicken or goats, that is why it remained unoccupied for long. who is going to move into that kind of apartment.
I started rolling on the floor laughing seriously that see this man that was trying to persuade me into going for this apartment only yesterday is the same man saying this.

The lesson I learnt is that, don't always be in haste to do something or to take a decision, and always stand on your point and don't allow others to mislead you into doing something you may later regret.

Me : I need a house close to my office

Agent: Oga no problem e get one at the back of your office self, very clean and spacious.

Me : hope water and light is in the area

Agent : Oga just come and see you will like it

Agent start his bike and I entered with him to see the house, as we got to a particular neigbour hood where zink and plank were use to build majority of the houses I said to my self "i think we still av distance to go before getting to the said neigbour hood the agent is talking about" to my greatest surprise the agent stop his bike and said Oga we don reach, I looked at him and I remain mute.

Me: oya come show me the house

Agent: follow me, let me show you the house

The compund was something else, general toliet and bathroom.
The agent opened the door, the handle fell off I nod my head and smile.. as we entered the room I couldn't breath I don't know if the formal tenant that left the house was a mad person, the whole wall paint was pilled, every where was smelling, no net in the window.
The agent immediately started blaming the landlord that he didn't tell him the house is like this.
I just look my self and shake my head I said to myself maybe my dressing made this man to bring me to this shithole called house.
The next thing the agent said Oga u know say you will give me transport fare for taking you to this house. The eye I take look am eehh

Over 15 years ago, I was looking for a flat around Aladelola Stret, Ketu or any other neat area on the other side of Ketu. Unfortunately met this useless agent who first collected sign-on fee. He took me first, to a so called 2-bedroom flat detached from the main building where there was a grave almost half the size of a room barely a foot from the entrance of the flat. Where he referred to as kitchen was just a very small corner, with a wash hand basin, which cannot contain a 4-burner gas cooker.

We left there, he told me of another place called Ikosi Oke. I feared for my life that day because our bike was climbing a mountain at angle 50-degrees. His definition of 2-bedroom flat was at the back of a dirty house. Two adjoining rooms - you have to come out to reach your kitchen and bathroom. I had to calm myself down because I initially planned to leave him there and blast him if he ever asked for transport fare back.

They took me to an apartment where you will have to pass through several corners and corridors, and you will have to greet tens of occupants before you can climb to your own apartment.

I told one my budget range of 250-300 for a mini flat, he took me to a face me I slap you.

Immediately I got to one place like that and I saw a mallam selling water to them, I gave up on those agents. Not even any existing structure for water supply. No borehole


In another case, I told them my kind of apartment, and they were so sure there is an apartment that matched that specification. I chartered Keke napep carried 3 guys, thinking I don get better place. I paid Napep 2k, they took me to 2 different 17th century houses. They still asked me for 4k agent fee after a disappointing outing. No iota of Truth in them

Around 2017 I was looking for house around surulere, saw one apartment on olx and it turned out someone else has taken the apartment according to the agent. So the agent told me he has other places. I was looking for a room self contain

Na so he carry me go one place wey be like Hut asking me to pay 250k, no ceiling (yet) , toilet and kitchen are in one place..

It's a storey building and guess what? The floor is supermarket so anytime I'm entering my own house I have to pass through the supermarket
They demarcated inside the supermarket so I can't steal anything if they close but I still need the supermarket key nevertheless..

I couldn't believe my eyes... I'm sure someone will still rent that kind apartment but not me!!!!

Any agent that asks for transport fare before taking you out is most likely a scam

So sad but true, Some few good agents are still in Lagos sha. Most of the agents doing all these are purely house rent Agents. The Agents majoring in the sales of properties hardly have time to be taking you up and down when they know their time will equally be wasted.
The house rent agents will even want to force you to fill form of 2k-10k before leaving their office when they already know at times your choice/specs is not available.

I saw a house I liked. House is 400k annually and I must pay a year and half plus extra agent fees and caution fees. Everything summing up to almost 800k. Agent said he can take me to the landlord to see if he can subsidize some fees or allow me pay by installment. He said his house is just 5 minutes drive. Being someone that’s new to Lagos, he led the way as I drove. We ended up spending over 30 minutes with all my fast driving and no traffic. We eventually met the “landlord” outside a mama put joint drinking beer. The man looked so tattered to be the landlord of a 3 storey building. It was later I discovered he’s just a developer
