The AP thing didn't let me post my transcript for about a month.. But now I'll comfortably send it in Interviewed JULY 25 window ... (cant remember now "Young white lady" Updated 26 to AP Updated Aug 26 --- Approved aug 28 So that morning on the 25 in Abuja it was raining heavily got to the Embassy wet with about 100 people ahead of me...All that was in my head is I'm leaving here with that white slip...A lot of students were being denied before my eyes and people were saying sorry, I sha minded my own business like "Na Una Sabi ooo" Note VO approved a lady before me...this made me scared like can she approve back to back. VO: Good Morning Me: Good Morning how are you today, she said fine VO: Passed my passport and i20 to her "Oh Ashland University" Why?? Me: Basically it's a Christian Uni and they have a good record in Graduate business courses..Top 50 in the USA...Also Ashland is a peaceful community that would suit my learning while in the USA VO: Have you ever left Nigeria Me: Never had the opportunity VO: Do you know anyone in the USA Me: No ... even tho I knew alot, a couple of friends and family sef (denied the paaaa) VO..Did you take the GRE Me: No..she frowned a little..I work and I didn't really have much time and besides the school specifically say, they gave me an option of GRE or IELTS submit one. So I took the IELTS and showed her. VO : 8 in speaking woooow, you must be really good at speaking Me: Smiled and said yes VO: Which uni did you attend Me : Ajayi Crowther studied Accounting and Finance Vo: What was your final project about Me: Told her Impact of IFRS in Nigerian public sector...okay wooo I go dabaru your head today VO okay..where do you work Me..told her VO.. what do you do there Me.. Financial analyst/ Jnr Accountant VO.. So why business administration Me.. I have a poor business foundation and where I work, you need to be good at doing business head to toe.. Customer satisfaction all...I sha told her alot of business stuff VO..okay so who's sponsoring me Me...The company I work VO..Uhn Why Me.. Told my boss i was planning for my master's and I would be leaving, but because he didn't want to lose me he decided why not invest in me and come back to his company with all the knowledge bla bla bla bla...I also have a company I registered with two other friends. VO... I see you are making moves..May I see the bank statement..CAC document and Sponsor letter Me....Passed it all to her...all this while I maintained full eye contact with her but damn my legs were shaking Now here's the tricky part VO...I hope this statement is not fraudulent Me ...No VO... "she then said I'll check them now and pretended like she was really going to check by moving away from her chair, turned back..and said I could have my statement back if I know it's fraudulent and she'll deny me jejely Me.. Told her go ahead and check right now...then she came back and said okay I'll check later She then gave me the yellow paper for ap and the two white and said the usuals...my legs were still shaking ooo Oya I was just shinning teeth as I walked out What a rough interview, I didn't prepare much, just went there like I know you'll give me, but I prayed o...I also had to stay in Abj throughout, AP is an emotional torture Note...One thing I noticed is dress well o, if u fit wear suit sef wear am, you'll look more matured ...coz me I legit dressed like an accountant would that day o...and pray well, pray very well to your eleda ooo If you are still on AP, pray well abeg and be sure of the account statement...if your interview is soon, pls don't go and do fake account abeg, they'll bounce you can..thank you 28 Likes 4 Shares |

Swerveking14: congrats but dressing doesn't affect your interview outcome. I saw some people with short nicker and polo, some even wearing Dunlop slippers getting approved. Just dress smart. During my last interview, I wore simple native attire. 2 Likes |

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by waynee2baba: 1:19am On Aug 30, 2019 |
Oluwatosin2000: With the way V.Os dey eye people wey no write GRE, like say dem be admission officer, your best bet is to give it a shot. You'd obviously get funding with good scores unless you're O.B.O and money no be problem. |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Oluwatosin2000(m): 1:32am On Aug 30, 2019 |
waynee2baba: Lol,I no be O.BO,but then, what are my chances of getting the visa without these exams? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by waynee2baba: 2:39am On Aug 30, 2019 |
Oluwatosin2000: Not writing them doesn't mean you'd be refused. People on this forum have gotten their visas without taking either GRE, GMAT, SAT or TOEFL. The V.O might not even ask you for any proficiency or standardize test during your interview. Since you want to know your chances... if there is a chance that an event will happen, then its probability is between zero and 1. That being said, visa decisions are 50-50. No matter how airtight your application is - it's at the V.O's discretion to either approve or refuse ~ which would depend on how your interview goes. 3 Likes |

Oluwatosin2000: Mentioning standardized tests during an interview just shows you're a genuine student and might increase your chances. Though, it won't reduce your chances cuz even people with Ivy League admission letters, perfect SAT & TOEFL scores get denied due to other reasons. If you're feeling fly and confident and you've also met other requirements, shoot your shot and you fit score with bicycle kick. 1 Like |

ditha: See as CGPA sweet like fresh bread Your letter of language proficiency is not enough, you can find school that completely waive English for Nigerians. All the schools in Texas, I think, waive English for Nigerians. U of Florida at Gainesville U of Maryland, Baltimore George Washington University, DC Morgan State U John Hopkins U Florida State U or Florida A and M uni There will be others but u need to dig it out yourself. Go to any school offering your desired course. Go to their English language requirement page. They won't expressly say it is waived for Nigerians but you can find a link containing a "list of countries" which English is waived for. Goodluck. 9 Likes |

ditha:1. Get your personal details off Nairaland 2. Write TOEFL/IELTS Nobody really takes a letter from a relatively unknown third world country UNI too seriously. If language proficiency isn't waived, save yourself the hassle and write a test once and for all times. 3. Biotechnology is a highly competitive field, so your GPA won't be enough at all, you'll need a good GRE score, and fantastic SOP&LOR to get any funding up for grabs. 4. Admission season is already upon us , so if you don't act fast, you'll have to wait till next year (if you're targeting fall admission cycle that is) Now you can read the femi312 ancient wisdom femi312: There is this saying that says ''If we don't fight we have failed, but if 9 Likes 1 Share |

VISA denied on the 29th of August. Lagos Consulate VO: Window 4 (a blonde white woman in her early thirties) My transcript went like this. VO: Come along sir. Good morning, sir Me: Good morning. VO: Your passport, please... And also your I-20. VO: I can see you are going to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and you are going for a Biotechnology program. Me: Yes VO: Why do you want to school in the US. Me: The US boast of best, groundbreaking researches that are unmatched anywhere else in the world, especially in the area of Biomedical sciences, specifically in Cancer biology. Therefore, since I intend having a career as a research scientist in this field, I believe going to the United States for a masters program in Biotechnology is the best decision to make. VO: Are you a graduate? Me: Yes. VO: Oh, what did you study? Me: Pharmacology from the University of Lagos. VO: oh so, you are a graduate of Pharmacology and want to go into Oncology? Me: Yes. VO: You do not have a working experience. Me: I do. I have a year work experience during my NYSC that I completed in March this year, where I worked in a Pharmaceutical company as a Marketing Executive. My roles involved assisting the product managers in the management of the sales team. VO: okay - though she didn't seem impressed - so, what have you been doing since then? Me: I have been preparing for my graduate studies. VO: So, what will this course do for you? Me: I intend going for a phD degree, but currently don't have adequate research experience to enable me or qualify me to go for a phD program. Having a Master degree in this course will provide me the adequate experience and equip me towards a phD degree. Also, I am particularly interested in this program because aside being awarded a graduate assistantship, tuition scholarships and tuition remission, the school has a rich history in conducting intensive research in lung diseases like lung cancer. The school is even known as the East Texas Chest Center because of the high research activity in lung diseases (I began to stutter here, and apologized. She asked me to take my time and continue that she is trying to type in everything I was saying) These researches align with my interest. Also the school actively encourages students planning to further their studies by providing opportunities to publish their researches in Top science journals. VO: I can see you have an assistantship of 12000 dollars, who is paying for the rest? Me: My maternal uncle. VO: What does he do? Me: He is a successful business man that's into importation and sales of cars. VO: Have you traveled out of the country before? Me: I have not had the reason until now. VO: Alright. I am sorry, I will not be approving your VISA, this paper will explain why (with a fake sad face ) I wish you the best. Although my school already resumed on the 19th and classes started this Monday - this was the first thing the man at the passport verification point noted. However the VO never made mention of it during the interview. I was certain I was denied because of the late resumption. But is it possible the VO didn't even notice it and denied me for another reason? 3 Likes 1 Share |

charliejose: I don't think you were denied because of late resumption, the V.O never even mentioned this. And if your transcript is as you wrote it, I think you did well. I am no expert at this but I'll say you should get an extension letter from your school and fire again, or just postpone till Spring if that is allowed. |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Nobody: 12:58pm On Aug 30, 2019 |
charliejose: Sorry, that blonde white lady in window 4 is very good at denial. She's in her mid 30's I think. She denied me on 27th. She might have denied you on how you actually responded to those questions especially on your Job experience, what the degree would do for you and the difference between your deficit and SOA. Not forgetting your physical countenance and demeanor. |

charliejose: I am sorry about that bro, the reason is not about the resumption date. It started when she asked you about the change from pharmacology to oncology. Pharmacology and oncology are two different medical field. You later nailed yourself with your work experience. Your work experience have not nothing to do with oncology. So, she technically wanted to know what makes you to want to move from pharmacology to oncology. 2 Likes |
