Leader of the “Free the Sheeple movement”, Daddy Freeze, has strongly condemned the practice of paying bride price. The popular OAP and pastor took to his Instagram page to say that nobody would pay a bride price for any of his daughters, and his #FreeNation group will be looking to abolish the practice within 10 years 3 Likes

If you didn't pay bride price, you are not married. |

Ishilove:Lol. Logically, attaching a price to something, no matter how little, means that the person or thing is for sale. Of course, the father of the bride doesn’t think he is selling his daughter |

glink2015: Stop this Biblical stuff, I as an African man will follow the customs and traditions of my people, and bride price is one of them, we have no business with what any religious book says... and no, the first marriage didn't take place in the Bible, before any body stepped foot in the middle east, people were already paying bride price in Africa. |

PDPGuy:Completely abolishing the practice might not be the way to go. I am very pan-African and believe that one thing Africans should always hold on to is their culture and this bride price thing seems to be a big part of it. Instead of stating a movement aimed at eliminating a vital part of what it means to be African, what is needed is some sort of reorientation. People ought to understand their history and return to the original idea behind bride price. It's not just a Nigerian matter as South African countries where lobola is paid are also having the conversation. https://m.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/lobola-is-losing-its-meaning-20181126-2 |
