The year I completed my NYSC, several discharge certificates were damaged by laminating machines minutes after our passing out parade.

Someone above said institutions should provide digital certificates instead of hard copies, I COMPLETELY agree with that.

As for admission into international institutions, there are several ways schools verify certs these days. So, laminating won't (or shouldn't) affect admissions. WES et al.

The major disadvantage is that for international study, most countries requires you authenticate your original certificate at Ministry of education and ministry of foreign affairs. This won't be possible with a laminated result.

Thank God its only my NECO I laminated. Na even statement of result. We were told in the university before issuing our certificates to graduands that If you laminate, that's the end of it and no issuing of certificate twice... Before them even make announcement some guys don rush go cafe go laminate. They nearly fainted on getting the information.

You're right, my original WAEC Certificate was wrongfully laminated as a result of overheating, it almost got burnt and became very rough in the process.

Correct lamination is the best just the disadvantages attached to it.

I don't know why people still laminate. That machine is no where near any document shop oversea. There are equivalent nylon bag that can hold and protect your certificate like a laminated nylon without the burden it poses.
