Kia Rio 2011(12)-2017

3 things to look out for.

1. The engine : very expensive full aluminium engine that easily gets bad when vehicle overheats engine price hovers around ₦500,000

2. Same problem with the VDC compressor sadly this one gets bad without any interference before vehicle hits 50,000km modifying the a/c system is a real pain as the engine is usually a 1.4liter engine or 1.2liter and will vibrate under load when a manual compressor is installed

3. Electronic steering column and steering rack, : our roads were not designed for electronic assisted steerings.

You mean it has no rod connecting directly to the steering? shocked I'm truly not comfortable with such technology.

Due to popular demand let us continue
with the Hyundai Tucson 2007-2009

The 4cylinder.

Die hard vehicle came in back in the days from Dana motors engine costs 180k transmission I have never seen one being replaced so I have no idea how much that costs.

The V6 is a no go area, very unreliable piece of sh!t. (My personal view)

This is the first generation of Tucson and it is dated as 2005-2009. Not from 2007

It does, it is electronically assisted and not done by hydraulics.

Minor point of correction chief, it's electrically assisted, not electronic.

Electronics is all the gubbins that does the complex control stuff typically but here, it's an electric motor that supplements the steering input.

Nice thread, following.

The Camry 2001-2006 Aka big daddy

The Camry came in the following engine and transmission variants between 2001/2006 the popular specs from Europe and North America highlighted below.

2.0 L 1AZ-FE I4, 144 hp
2.4 L 2AZ-FE I4, 157 hp
3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6, 192 hp without VVT-i (2002), 210 hp with VVT-i (2003–2006)
3.3 L 3MZ-FE V6 SE (2004–2006), 225 hp

Transmission

5-speed manual
4-speed U241E automatic
5-speed U151E automatic
4-speed U140E automatic
5-speed U250E automatic

The V6 1mz-fe engine 2001- 2002.

Really poor 2nd hand value partially due to non vvti engines, The 1mz 2003- 2006 much better fuel economy with vvti and 3mz engine 2003- 2006 smoother drive better fuel economy but watch out for the U151E aka 13pin transmission, once it's bad, they slap for sale on the car.

The 4cylinder

The 2001-2006 all have same 2az engines, but they are fit with different transmission types.

The 2001-2004 come with the ever reliable U241E 4speed transmission aka 10pin (₦70,000)

While the 2005-2006 are fit with the U250 aka 13pin transmission (₦220,000)

When buying a Camry 4cylinder inspect the engine and transmission properly, as a standard the 2az engine is usually abused and a bit pricy ₦250,000, and if u must buy the later models 2005/2006 ensure the transmission is in top shape.

Check out the professional review of all Honda cars I4 engine. From 1976 to 2019. Their problems, the one to buy and not to buy.

Based on what I saw, 2005, 2006, 2015 and 2017 are less problematic than other models.

While the worst and the one they advised people to avoid like plague are 2014, 2013, 2009, 2008, 2003, 2004 models.

Peoples complained about the following mostly:

1. transmission failure

2. brake pad

3. suspension

4. paint peeling

5. electronics malfunction etc.

I am not sure, but I have bought a 3mz engine mated to a U151 front wheel drive transmission in the past but not sure what vehicle it came out from.

Cc inception

the 2004-07 all come in front wheel drive except the 2006 and 2007 canadian market, where the v6(3.3l) come with only all wheel drive.

actually what it means is that the steering ins not hydraulically assisted(i.e no power steering pump and fluid required)

it is still connected to the rack via the steering shaft & yoke mechanism. instead power assist comes from an electric motor eihter mounted on the steering rack or on the steering shaft

I get it. Though I've seen an Audi video where a driver was testing an Audi car he was told there's no rod connection to the steering. It's all electronically controlled. Apart from it having an electronic assist steering rack. What turns the car is different electric motor which takes readings from the steering as the driver turns it. Immediately the driver stopped the car. He told guy with him that he shouldn't have told him that, now he does not feel comfortable driving the car. He mentioned feeling some split second delays when turning the wheels.

Bro that's scary. Imagine you driving and someone hacks into your car and takes control.

I dunno it tesla has such tech or the tech is in place and there is still a rod.

Check other models on the links you'll find the one you can manage.

If you notice carefully, you rarely see 2005, 2006,2010 etc for sale on nairaland auto section.

Lol but the one they kept retreating people not to buy is 2004 and 2003 models.
Re: Are There Cheap Nigerian Used Cars? by Avedonn: 2:53pm On Sep 06, 2019
But bad as it's, Honda is still better than Toyota Camry especially the new model of Camry 2007 and above.

Based on the review, people complain of total engine failure, excessive fuel consumption, brake pad, and electrical problems after 80k miles especially 2008 and above models.

Checkout the review of Toyota Camry http://m.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Camry/
