Your dv5 is as good as useless, it's now scrap as the engine is gone. Core i5 is a good one (even though the generation is unknown), The battery backup seems okay too and you said the body is neat.

I'd say it's a good deal, but make sure the Acer is in good condition (I mean the motherboard, screen etc).

Thought as much it will be an old one, but then old soldier never dies. He'll hardly or never get a better deal than that.

Since he's going to upgrade the HDD, I'd also suggest he upgrades the RAM to at least 4-6GB.

u need to take whatever u see on gsmarena with a pinch of salt,they weren't even present during the launch day. Both models poses gorrila glass 5 front nd back according to xiaomi, if u doubt check youtube reviews nd its only the frame material thats still sketchy.
