Let's not be too fast to prosecute Nigeria for this. It happens everywhere. Let ask all those from Niger Republic to leave Nigeria if any of them will provide any paper

Evacuation of citizens in distress only requires evidence of identification. Assuming South African government want to deport Nigerians, will possession of expired passport stop them from carrying out the exercise. Aside passport, national identity card, Nigeria voters card and any other government issued document is enough to prove citizenship. In a working society, mere mention of your BVN or Nigeria phone number is enough to prove identity. Assuming war broke out in South Africa and there is need to evacuate countries' citizens, Nigeria government will be given us this excuse. For GOD's sake, this is an emergency. Treat it as such.
Certain things are being ignored in Nigeria. A country without central data base. Of what use are all those biometric capturing and registration? Imagine your own GSM network service provider asking you to bring evidence of identification before before effecting a welcome back. The same network provider that captured your biometrics during sim registration. Or should we talk of Banks that also request for identification before cashing cheques whereas we have sync BVN biometrics. Do you know that in some countries, passports, drivers license and sundries doesn't expire. Though I understand that we are still a developing nation and using all these expiration format to earn revenue, but in a situation like this, we have to chase the hawk away first before warning the chicks for leaving their battery cage.

There excuse is very lame.. Expired papers are usually waved when there is an emergency and necessity.

Now what about those Nigerian migrants whose papers have expired and are convicted of crimes...How do they get deported?

They have embassy in the prison?
All what they need here is to prove that they are Nigerians.. And expired papers can serve that purpose.

NO Immigration officer anywhere in the world will allow you leave without valid travel documents. The South African Immigration will not allow the exit of anyone with non-valid documents.

But I believe all this nonsense they are telling us is to ready our minds when they come around to tell us that the evacuation couldn't happen. It doesn't take more than an hour for the Nigerian government to issue Emergency Travel Certificates to those people who allegedly have expired passports. I doubt any Nigerian living in SA has requested to be evacuated. All of this is mere smokescreen and huffing and puffing

Try renewal of passport abroad. You will see big men begging those embassy staff, answering them madams and ogas, all to get their passports renewed. Even at that, they delay and drag it for weeks to months. Nothing frustrates like that, especially when one has a set out plan/need for the passport.
The question is why does it take months to produce a passport?

not in all countries I got mine within 3 days the problem is we don’t like going through due process there was a time I wanted to travel to naija and I wanted to regularise my documents the stupid proxy told me it would cost close to $500 I summoned courage and went myself and I spent less than $100 for the same process he said would $500 my advice is stop using proxies go yourself in this case they can issue this set of people without passport emergency travel document just a note identifying them as Nigerians and off they go as long as they have their expired passport and the passport numbers

y the Nigeria government don't want to say anything becos some of the past and present senators acquired property in south Africa, any action then take it will affect there property including there land.
