UdechiHD: Haha brother, do you even know the meaning of party delegate. What’s the business of AD-APP during PDP presidential primaries in 1999 that you’re talking about delegates. In 1999, SE delegates voted the Igbos in the PDP primaries most especially Dr. Alex Ekwueme. The Middle belt, Core North, and SW delegates voted Obasanjo during the PDP primaries. You’re mixing things up by trying to rope Falae into PDP primaries. Just like saying Tinubu voted for Atiku in the PDP primaries for 2019 election. The Igbos never voted OBJ for PDP primaries, they voted their sons which are listed below for the Jos 1998 PDP convention: Dr. Alex Ekwueme Chief Jim Nwobodo Etc. |
Re: 10 South East Igbos Who Can Be Great Nigerian Presidents by Nobody: 12:27am On Sep 10, 2019 |
Iblad0994:The SE delegates shared their votes. Chief Nwobodo an eternal enemy of Ekwueme was used by the Jos Mafia to swing half of SE votes to Obasanjo. The northerners shared their votes between Ekwueme and Obasanjo same as the south-south. It was the middlebelt overwhelming votes that swung in favour of Obasanjo and this was made possible with the influence of Solomon Lar, IBB, Abdulsalam and the Langtang Generals during the Jos convention. 1 Like |

astrodome: Mostly solid list. But one thing is very glaring. None of them have the national clout/power to get elected. |

UdechiHD: Of course, because he is a pushover like Jonathan and even Osinbajo. Kingmakers want stooges they can throw out like they did to Ambode. Igbos cannot support such people. |

This is so redundant, it's like putting the cart before the horse. The PDP you follow follow is not interested in any candidate from the SE, in 1999, they zoned to the North. In 2023, they again zoned to the North. So, of what relevance is any candidate and all the people you are parading and fighting over? The PDP is not stupid, any candidate or even running mate from the SE is not a winning combination, abi is their any reason why the PDP refused to reward you with the presidency for your loyalty and votes election after election? You people are hard learners. |

Re: 10 South East Igbos Who Can Be Great Nigerian Presidents by Nobody: 12:34am On Sep 10, 2019 |
UdechiHD: I think Chief Okwesileze Nwodo supported Ekwueme at to the end based on the what transpired then coz he was the national secretary of PDP then, unless if I’m mixing name up. it can also be argued the the Igbos voted for their own and Babangida had to solicit for the middlebelt and the core north vote for OBJ. Initially the PDP caucus resorted to make Dr. Ekwueme the sole candidate before Babangida convinced them to make support Obasanjo due to the fact that: Babangida was trying to put the June 12 debacle behind him because he believed that the South West had actually been pushed to the wall so much so that they were already singing their own Oodua anthem and were already hoisting their own flag in some places and he believed that Nigeria could not survive another secessionist war so the way he saw fit to placate them and carry them along was to cede the presidency to the South West. 1 Like |

Re: 10 South East Igbos Who Can Be Great Nigerian Presidents by Nobody: 12:36am On Sep 10, 2019 |
SLAP44:Igbo support alone won't produce the President. I like Onyeama as a person and if APC picks him for Presidency no problem. But such is a mirage. The likes of Rochas may get the nod even before Onyeama. No region can produce the Presidency on it's own without the support of other regions. Buhari's emergence as President in 2015 is a pointer to this fact. |

Re: 10 South East Igbos Who Can Be Great Nigerian Presidents by Nobody: 12:41am On Sep 10, 2019 |
Iblad0994:True! But Ekwueme got more votes from the core north than Obasanjo. The Shagari political family and Ekwueme northern G-24 group didn't disappoint him. Yes Nwobodo was a jester, but Obasanjo's emergence was the making of the middle belt financed by IBB, Abdulsalam and the Langtang Generals loyal to him. IBB and Abdulsalami made Obasanjo President. |

plaindealer: Start from counting one, before counting two. This topic is about those Igbos that have the capacity to lead Nigeria out of the jungle, not those that will end up another Buharri who will cause trouble to the economy of the country. The keyword here is Great. |

Re: 10 South East Igbos Who Can Be Great Nigerian Presidents by Nobody: 12:47am On Sep 10, 2019 |
UdechiHD: I agree with your assertion. Many people did not even know the SW tried the antics of seceding then during that fallout, how I wish the South did not fall for the gimmicks of Babangida then maybe Nigeria would have disintegrated and each region would have grown at their own pace now whether as a different country or different region. The other reason why Babangida did not support Ekwueme was that That Ekwueme was angling at the last Constitutional Conference for regional armies and some people felt that that suggestion was fraught with the possibility of secession. It’s a game of the north against the whole south. The political Maradona played it well and we are still all trapped in this Nigeria till now. |

plaindealer: Awolowo, who would have made a very great Nigerian president, is an example of how you can reconcile both. Besides, if not that you are an irredeemable tribalist, you would have noticed several APC members on the list. Or are Igbo APC members not a APC again? 1 Like |

UdechiHD: With fright in my mind, I have to agree with you on this. Nigeria has an unwritten law about electing the worst of us over the best of us, and that's why we have been crawling as toddlers at age 59. But should the Igbos go ahead and support the worst of their men just because Nigeria functions abnormally?. I think Igbos must support only those that has the capacity to become great presidents, not mediocre men like the rest of Nigeria loves to push up there. 1 Like |

SLAP44: Bro Nigeria is complex and the reason why we are still in this state we are was that most Nigerians are not realist. We only believe in dreams with is hard to realize. Like UdechiHD mentioned up there, you gotta include the likes of Kalu and Okorocha, those guys are still sellable in the north and in as much as Nigeria still practices democracy, you need to present someone that will get at least some votes in the North and SW. To be honest, the Yoruba voters are core democrat, they will vote an Igbo man if alliance can be built before then. Tho it might be a mirage for now considering the political system currently, but I can attest to the fact that normal Yoruba voters can vote who they like based on manifesto and if you can appeal to their psyche. For e.g. people voted Obi in the SW even considering the fact that Osibanjo is on the ballot as VP. Okonjo Iweala and the other featherweight won’t even get up to 3 million votes in a presidential election so in as much as you’re trying to solicit for people’s opinion, you gotta base it on a little bit of reality. I’m Yoruba and that’s what I think based on current political situation and Nigeria tribalistic democracy. |
