It's nothing about priority. The lad is good enough and can add quality to the side.

Zuby will add additional depth but if you ask me what the team needs immediately, it will be a replacement for Iwobi.

How does his getting invited stop that from happening? Right now if he maintains his playing time he should be next on the list.

No mate!! Rohr is the best thing to happen to Nigerian football since Clemence Westerhoff.

His praise singers would always want to make it an option between Rohr and the bribe taking local coaches. Bifurcation at its depressing best.

How the tides have changed. Before we used to say... We have no replacement for Mikel.

Now it is the era of Iwobi.... how time flies

I am afraid this is also what I was saying by final whistle.
Rohr is the reason we drew the Ukraine game. I just wanted to stay off comments and watch the U-23s and Super Eagles with critical eyes. The U-23s made me smile and confirmed my trust in them and The Super Eagles starting 11 brought magic to my screen. What a super attacking display we saw in that first half...
The second half saw us still in control until Iwobi left and with Rohr failing to make fresh changes early enough to replace tired legs and still keep the shape of the team and see out the rest of the game.

Honestly Sire... Rohr is frustrating this new dawn.

Glasgow Rangers star Joe Aribo had a memorable debut for the Super Eagles, scoring after three minutes as Nigeria surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Ukraine in an international friendly on Tuesday evening.

The central midfielder has gone from strength to strength following his move to Rangers in the summer transfer window and has now scored five goals in total for club and country since the season started.

With Obi Mikel calling time on his international career after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, manager Gernot Rohr has been in search of a replacement for the Chelsea legend.

Excited Super Eagles fans believe the search is over with Aribo's eye-catching display against Ukraine and are tipping him to step into the shoes of the former Super Eagles captain.

Here's what some Super Eagles fans said on Twitter after watching Aribo make his international debut :

@Tv_Olonimoyo : ''I think I like Joe Aribo on the ball. He looked like young Mikel at times. #UKRvNIG''

@JackFleet : ''Joe aribo is a perfect replacement for Mikel obi. Victor osimhen is a power house''.

@dr_spex : ''This was a great match. So we had Joe Aribo and we took mikel to Nations Cup''.

@achonuiykeman : ''Joe aribo has subtle mikel trait.''

@Young_Iriv : ''The way Joe Aribo holds the ball reminds me of Mikel in his early days. Such a talent. #UKRNGA''.

@o_jayfrank : ''Joe aribo is good, could be a replacement for mikel #UKRNGA''.

@iamdouglaseze : ''In Joe Aribo, Nigeria has finally found that No.10 replacement for Okocha. What we thought we had in Mikel. His b2b runs are tremendous. A new star is born!''

@gbenga3nity : ''Joseph Ayodele-Aribo is such a joy to watch. A proper sensation that's coming in right on time to replace John Obi Mikel. #SoarSuperEagles.''

@EliasAnyebe : ''Aribo is good. Replaced Mikel with ease.''

@ToluBaju : ''The Aribo guy looks Sharp. If Mikel hadn't retired, we probably wouldn't have discovered him.''

The Attack of Kalu - Osimhen - Chukwueze (The KOC)

The KOC is a super fluid "assassin" system designed to wreck havoc on any defence no matter what stalwart you have in that defense system.
This is a wickedly bold attacking set up option for Gernot Rohr to exploit and it could even be our best with time. Kalu with his predominantly right foot cutting in from the left, Osimhen bombing through the Middle and Chukwueze meandering magically from the right with his sweet left foot. My brothers and sisters.... The KOC is heaven on earth for Nigerian football and Hell fire for our opponents if nurtured right.

One thing they need to cut off.... SELFISHNESS and PROFLIGACY. Chuks should be more of a team player. He had a couple of opportunities to play in Osimhen but refused. He is on his way to stardom but should learn to work more with his teammates to attain a level even higher than stardom.
Also, these three should understand that creating so many chances should also reflect on the scoreboard. We should try to score as much as we create. Chances missed can always come back to haunt.

In all the KOC is exciting especially with Iwobi just behind them... Heavens!!!

I think Rohr is a major reason why we are approaching a golden age in terms of talent. Invitations to the super eagles are more on merit now. Our players are moving to the big leagues to get attention of national team selectors.

We know how poor team selection used to be.

I understand the frustration with Rohr but he has met every target expected of him. If we are replacing Rohr, we must get someone who is tactically better and someone who will not invite junk players.

There is no point sacking him if we get a coach that will ignore our best players for crucial games.

On Joe Aribo

I watched Joseph Ayodele Aribo and I have this much to say....

Aribo is indeed welcome to the Super Eagles. And he can keep that #10 for now. It looks good on him. wink

It is only his first cap but what a game he had. This lad is going to put one of Etebo and Ndidi on the bench someday or within the next 1-1.5 years of NT football. Yes!! I said it! With the expected growth and evolution of this lad and seeing what he brings to the team in term of Excellent Ball Winning ability, Good man marking, decent positioning to cut off passing channels (which he is still improving on), Excellent distribution, Great Ball holding skills, Excellent ground covering ability, great box to box traits and mad confidence, he could force Rohr's hands in the long run and make either Ndidi or Etebo sit on the bench. He was a calming sight that brought that sweet ease to our midfield plays. His synergy with Iwobi and Etebo today was awesome.

He will only get better. He can keep that #10 for now. Lad is a true baller and a beautiful CM addition to the team.

His expected quality improvement within the next year will give our coaches a big headache as to what our starting midfield 3 should be... just watch out. Not just him... him and "another coming in soon" wink

Iwobi-Etebo-Ndidi may just someday evolve into Iwobi-Aribo-Ndidi or Iwobi-Aribo-Etebo or Iwobi-Aribo-******

Time will tell but I am loving the quality options...

Aribo take a bow son.... your dad, Charlesemeka85 must be so proud.

I don't want him sacked.... at least not anymore (or rather not for now). I just need him to please improve in some details as regards utilising the best or close to the best this team has to offer.

It is true that Rohr is part of the reason we are in this new dawn. I commend and appreciate him for bringing us this far and dragging us up from the deep dark wells of Post-2014 to 2016.

Rohr has brought in the materials for the masterpiece. Now I hope he can build it well. This new era is exciting and must not be laid to waste.

Jamilu Collins' LB position needs an upgrade as soon as possible.

The Lad is decent but decency is not enough for the level the Super Eagles are aspiring to walk into in this new era.

Collins need to step up his game and he needs seriously bad ass competition to be pushed to his limits and beyond.

In Francis Uzoho, we are good to go in the GK role. He put in a very assuring performance today with great saves and even made a beautiful stop from a Free kick almost akin to the one Mahrez had against Akpeyi at AFCON 2019. He followed that up with an intelligent stop from a Konoplyanka free kick towards to the end of the game. His gametime and clean sheets form in Cyprus is bringing him to his best again and we can only hope he keeps getting better.

And I still stand by what I said months abi na weeks back. Uzoho would not have been beaten the way Akpeyi was beaten for that free kick in Egypt.

Well done Superboy.

grin my son is on the right path, his integration into the team be gradual and when he gets used to the system I tip him to displace etebo.

Sentiment aside, ndidi is the best defensive midfielder we have in Europe, etebo is a ram who works so hard for the team and covers alot of ground but when it comes to reading and controlling the tempo of a game which is the main duty of a cm he falls short. Also his ball distribution isn't the best.

With time aribo will become the teams undisputed cm because he has the needed ingredients to excel in that position. Other good options are ejaria and Nwakali jnr but the latter have to start making a name for himself in Europe asap.

If aribo sustains his form with better performance in the team then etebo will be used from the bench to help out in defending when the team is defending a lead.

Etebo is blessed with the engine and agility to shut out the opposition from penetrating the teams defense while protecting a lead so he is still indispensable in the team for now.

The new eagles setup comprised of young players is a delight to watch and one that will last for a long time. Rohr should continue with the influx of few more players to fortify the team more in terms of having good qualities on the bench.

I think the addition of

Ademola lookman(so that Musa and Simon can be phased off)

any of tomori or uduokhai(to replace aging balogun in a year or 2),

Eze(a good sub for iwobi in the AM position)

ejaria and okechukwu(the former to bring stiff competition for aribo and etebo while the latter to serve as a good Sub for ndidi)

The issue is the lack of quality substitute which have cost the team several times in the past.

For instance, against Ukraine the midfield crumbled immediately Alex was subbed. The creativity and work rate which the Everton player dished out effectively was diffused when esiti came in for him. I think if he was subbed for another AM with the same work rate and creativity the opposing team wouldn't have came out with full force to attack during the tail end of the game.

Also I noticed aribo gassed out and needed to be subbed. It would have been more ideal if a more defensive minded midfielder with good composure and awareness was introduced to replace him. This will afford the team to still maintain their shape and approach but with additional cover sitting at the front of the back four.

Also, Simon for kalu didn't click at all. That side of the attack became blunt but would have been more effective if a fast and sharp attacker in the mold of onyekuru or undecided Ademola lookman took charge of that position.

In summary, the team has a face now with the rebuilding process almost 70% complete but I think the need of more quality will fortify the the set up more by affording it the luxury of boasting of a good bench of players who can read and understand the needed approach in a particular encounter

Two games, Two CMS in Number 10 Jerseys

September 10 saw two Orchestrators on display in different venues and both in Jersey #10 for the GWG.

First up we saw Kelechi Nwakali who was mesmerising and bossed plays for the Dream Team Eagles in Asaba vs Sudan. He even had an assist for one of the goals. His ball distribution and creative passing so sweet to behold. His confidence and smoothness on the ball a joy to watch. His addition to the team brought back that sweetness and control in our midfield plays and he GOT A DEAFENING STANDING OVATION FROM THE FANS WHEN BEING SUBBED OFF. He is one for the future and just needs to get his club career off the ground. Lad is so super talented and just needs to go beyond his talents to become really reliable and a truly viable option for the Super Eagles in the long run.

Next after, WE SAW THE DEBUT OF JOSEPH AYODELE ARIBO... he was also mesmerising and commanding in his plays. Started off the first half as a CM and he brought a dynamic spark to the role in a Box-to-Box and Game tempo controller kind... and in the second half he dropped deeper to DM allowing Etebo venture forward a little.
When surrounded by more than one or more than two players, he always beat them easily with graceful step overs or skillful legwork... lad is so assured on the ball and made midfield football look so damn easy. He is never under pressure and he dictated play pretty decently linking the defensive and offensive zones of the midfield beautifully. Also helped out in marking and has very admirable reading of the game.

For the good of Nigerian football, I expect to see both push each other to the limits and even beyond in years to come and really give us crazy depth in the CM/Midfield Enforcer(Commander) role.

With Joe Aribo carrying on in his growth and evolution at Glasgow Rangers with League, Cup and UEFA Europa league football to be involved in and with Kelechi Nwakali hopefully getting his euro club career back on track, I can say Nigerian football's future only got brighter

Now... add to the fact that we still have an Oviemuno Ejaria still waiting on the wings to join in and evenale the quality depth crazier... smiley

Oh I am loving this new era....

Really surprised at afcon seeing Rohr axed Aina from starting line up for Collins.

Fun Facts: Ukraine vs Nigeria Aftermath

- Save William Troost-Ekong who turned 26 last week (on Sept 1), all players who featured for Nigeria vs. Ukraine are 25 years or younger.

- Victor Osimhen bagged his first senior goal in his second senior GWG start. He now has 1 goal in six senior appearances overall.

- Joseph Aribo also bagged his first senior goal with his first shot in GWG jersey in his first senior GWG appearance. Indeed it was a game of debut goals.

- Nigeria is yet to lose a game with William Troost Ekong as Captain.
Vs. Poland (Mar 23, 2018), Ekong was captain and we won 1-0
Vs. Egypt (Mar.26, 2019), Ekong was captain again and we won 1-0.
Vs. Ukraine several hours ago, he again led us out and it was 2-2.

He can be invited definitely, he will add depth.

Ndidi, Etebo, Aribo, I do not think Zuby offers a major improvement on these 3. I say so because i watch some of his games in Turkey.

I think, the most important area is someone to play Iwobi's role. If Iwobi needs to be subbed, there is absolutely no one available.

With Ndidi absence, Etebo slotted in pretty well and Aribo played beside him. Zuby would have been a better alternative to Esiti today but if everyone is available, i do not think zuby is needed.

Our midfield today had a lot more balance. I think, the most important factor was Aribo.

In the nation's cup, Etebo and Ndidi won the ball but transition was poor so we quickly lost possession. Aribo did the simple things today, he kept the ball in motion. Similar to what Mikel does. It helped our transition today. In the nations cup, Etebo held on to the ball for too long and Ndidi could not pass properly.

Iwobi was absolutely central to all our good attacks.

Etebo is similar to Aribo in a sense. Rohr needs to stop playing him as the deepest midfielder.
Rohr should try out Azubuike - Etebo - Aribo one of these days.
I don't mind seeing Iwobi out wide for this to happen.
