"Don't give me the fish eeO!
show me how to fish eeO!
i want to catch e fish eeO!"
...song by I dont remember who lol

..
do Tbills and get 1.180million at 11.8% interest rate.
..
give your bro 500k to start rice business plus 180k for shop rent

..
give your bro another 500k for the childs school fees for this new session.

..
tell him you will not pay again after this year.
Let him continue with profits from his business.

..
the truth is he can get schools as low as 15k, but he chose to make you pay for the best plus all expenses for his family for the year!

..
let me ask you this, how many teachers/workers do you think earn upto 80k monthly?

..
if that was your bros salary, would he use all of it to pay school fees for ONLY ONE child?

..
Show him how to catch fish .

..
i have helped my 2 brothers to start working, i didn't give them a penny. Just motivation and financial education.

.. Good luck Sir

You deserve a hug mate, just the comment I was looking for. grin

I was faced with this dilemma sometime last year when i did some research and saw how much i lost holding Tbills when I should have switched to Eurobonds shortly before the last devaluation of Naira.

However we all need to understand some things, we might never see another major devaluation of up to 100% like we saw the last time, but over time stats have shown that we are all far better off holding dollars.

What i did was to move 40% of my Liquid assets to Eurobonds, while keeping the remaining 40% in Treasury Bills and 20% in Mutual funds.

In the short term, you will be lucky to get up to 10% return in Eurobond..(I was lucky to buy Fidelity bank Eurobond at 10.5% yield) from what i see now its about 8% now. However you can sleep well knowing that the fear of Devaluation will not affect you that badly if and when it comes...however, you will not get up to the 18% we got from Treasury Bills sometime ago.

So my advise is that, it is good for everyone to have some of his liquid assets in Dollars Investments and Eurobonds is the place to be.

If you are also like me that enjoy taking risk....buying Bitcoins is another way to diversify away from Naira (This is a risky bet though)
Do you know any investment house or bank that we can buy Eurobonds or that offer dollar investment?

Abeg what time of the day do mature TBill get credited. Assuming my tbill is to mature on 12th September, when will I likely get credited.

Depending on the bank you use. Zenith is 1m; first bank.,ecobank, stanbic, fidelity accept 100k.

Walk in to your bank and make inquiry. But try read from page 1 to 10 to know how it works

FBN Quest (mutual fund housing arm, subsidiary of first bank) always publish thier fact sheet on thier site.

you can go there and download thier factsheet for Eurobonds, that way you can read and fully understand the market trends and know what you are in for.

I have one but I don't know how to upload PDF here (its quite old tho 2017 or so)

Pls house, with the recent happenings in South Africa, how safe is Tbill in Stanbic, I have 3 running, one to mature tomorrow 12/9/19, and I intend to reinvest it immediately. Should I be worried as all my Tbills are in one bank.
I chose stanbic cos of their better rate and top notch customer service.

Before I answer, I'd like to know if you were charged custody fee. If you were, do you understand why you paid that??

A fee a brokerage or other financial institution charges for safekeeping services. Safekeeping or custody is a service in which the brokerage or financial institution holds securities on behalf of the client, which reduces the risk of the client losing his/her assets.

There was a CBN circular a few years ago mandating banks to transfer client investments to custodians eg FBN Custodians, Zenith Custodians etc. It was displayed in banking halls all over the country. This means that your investments are no longer domiciled with the bank but with the Custodian. It's an additional layer of risk management

Your bank is simply an agent facilitating investment, divestment and settlement

Na waoo, in a country where we are still fighting to have ordinary 30k as minimum wage, having 100m makes you a rich man, and you could have that money working for you all the days of your life inside Nigeria.

I dont think its a good idea to rush into a long term TBill deal now.

Naija is broke and the FG needs to borrow over N1TR in this quarter..

I see rates going to as much as 14.5% in the coming weeks.

Just look for good short term secondary market deals and lie there for the small time.....

Thanks for the explanation, but I think all these big big English makes it more easier for financial institutions to deceive ignorant costumers.
