putting the cart before the horse as has always been the case in Nigeria policy making will always end up creating more problems than it can solve.

Nothing on ground to absorb the effect of the closure.

The question is that, do we produce adequate rice that can sustain us? The answer is no

The question is..... will we ever produce adequate rice to sustain us if we keep importing rice?
They are doing us a favour.... helping us to be self sufficient by force.

Rice isn't nutritionally healthy but that's what most Nigerians can afford.

First you raise your production, then you can apply protectionist measures.

If other countries retaliate against our own limited exports now, what would we do?

Nigeria cannot produce even 5% of the production yet Buhari's number one goal is to ban.

Expect rice prices to top 40K per bag.

This is what Buhari did in his military regime that people started queuing to get milk.

Socialist nonsense.

Why are you acting surprised, do we do feasibility study before we embark on any project before now?

Enough rice?

Are you joking or what?

The quantity of rice produced in Nigeria cannot feed Lagos state alone, let alone the entire nation.

Has Buhari or his advisers even heard of the theory of comparative advantage?

no, they are not. U can only close the border when u can guarantee the masses that we can sustain ourselves if not the citizens will suffer. How much was the price of rice 5 years ago and how much today?
Re: Niger Republic Bans Export Of Rice To Nigeria by Ibusho: 10:39am On Sep 11, 2019
we all talk here as if its not our responsibilities to go back to the farm to produce rice. Looking at our level of unemployment it is unfair on the part of we Nigerians to condemn what the federal government has done. Let us all go back to the farm produce rice and make money. https:///eBEM7nG

The truth is if our so called local are affordable and cheaper than the exported ones, the people will look inward and patronize our locally made rice, but when the local ones are far expensive than the imported ones, I can assure you that people will look outward even if it is not as good as the locally made.

Are you suggesting we can't sustain ourselves?.... unless the FG tells us we can? The more we produce... the lower the price will be... the more our reserves will grow. Flood the market with imported rice... the price will drop significantly..... and so will the reserves...until we will have to take loans to buy rice... leading to bankruptcy... like Greece. Then who would bail us out?...a Black country?

Well, let me tell you more about me which you do not know, I currently sit inside AC cuz i am making money from my poultry business , I rear chickens and turkeys, which means I am one of those citizens wishing the Nigeria economy well. If you don't mind, you can come and join me and let me teach you how poultry business works.

As they are banning this and that, thunder should strike any one of them that eats a foreign rice. Charity they said begin at home.
