Greatzeus: Yet we keep shouting and pointing fingers at those in government for corrupt practices while the major problem lies with us Nigerians. The very fabric of the Nigerian society sinks of corruption, from top to bottom. Yet we expect Baba Ruga to come perform magic and cleanse the Nigerian system of corruption. Smh! 1 Like |

wwwkaycom: I resolved few months ago that I will not buy aso ebi again. Thank God my wife does not like it. For our wedding, we did not sell aso ebi. Op,maintain your stand,do not buy. but if not buying it will lead to serious problem in your marriage, pay for it,but do not sew it. You can send it as a gift to someone. Then, any aso ebi I did not like will be used to sew dress for my mother. i cannot waste money in sewing cloth i do not like. You do not loose in two ways For sake of your family, attend the programme and if you insist on not attending, find good excuse and send a gift to the celebrant. Personally,It is either i attend a ceremony or send gift in most times, not both. I can only give you my time or money not both because time is money. 7 Likes |

I once had this discussion with a friend and she thought i was being a miser. Many people's wardrobe is filled with asoebi like wtf!, to those people i ask, what is your purpose in life?. There is even a subtle bully tactics guilt shaming people into parting with their money.i kuku would rather stay in my house. Or if i buy asoebi it automatically means no gift for you. 3 Likes |

On my wedding day, there was no aso ebi. I just dropped colour for the occassion. My groomsmen wore white native with red cap on the reception. Traditional day, i told them to wear anything. Shebi wedding don pass and we have been happily martied for more than one year now. Nobody will come to your aid when you have problems. Stand your ground and let your wife understand why you dont want to buy. That thing is pure robbery. I dont even like anko sef talk more of uniform that you will see anyhow people wear everywhere. White native sure pass with cap of your choice. Pele my brother. I feel your pain. 1 Like |

is good having aso ebi but the moment you are imposing it on people and at higher price is a NO. The funniest thing is that they turned it to business. 1 Like |

Aso ebi is just to raise funds for an occasion or also an identity and I see nothing wrong with it. Most people sell pinups, cakes , sweets etc a little extra than the usual price which helps make food and logistics available. Things are tough which tend to make people now prudent but don’t sound pious abeg and eliminate the real essence of the thing and if you won’t buy abeg support the family. I buy and a lot of it and haven’t sewn them. Of course I admit someone can take it to the extreme an example is an aso ebi for N100,000 |

Take this simple solution to the problem of ashebi. 1. Manage and cough out money for iether her own alone or for both of you this time. 2. Sit down together with her and tell her how much you hate ashebi and equally tell her that every matter concerning ashebi is dead and buried in your house from today. 3. Tell her (if you want to accommodate her a little) that if she want ashebi again that she should foot the bill for her own 100%. Bro., as for for me, I have a long time marked it bad. I cannot even wear it even if my father dies. It's equally a borrowed culture. If not for fun fare I do not see the value it adds. As we talk, I have tutored my wife on how bad I hate it and so it's no longer a discussion between us. She herself these days has equally become is selective. She now sow on her own anyone that is so dear to her. 2 Likes |

don4real18: That’s what’s wrong with this country, you want extra largesse thing. If I or my parents want an extra large ceremony, they(I) can do well and keep money for it. Weddings, burials or child ceremonies, are to be within family not the whole community. Keep killing your self for people who will only laugh and mourn you only when they are seen or even for people who are only there to eat, shishi, gift, they no go give 2 Likes |

paris10: Nothing beats being a non-comformist and living in the midst of non-comformists. Your post defines some of the causes of depression and suicide in the society today: the need to impress people and belong to a social class. If aso-ebi is the only way to get supports from friends and relatives, then something is terribly wrong with us as a people. And if my failure to buy your aso-ebi is the reason I can't attend your wedding, then that makes it just perfect, I barely want to attend social gatherings in the first place I have only 3 "must-attend" weddings in this life. I've been to the first and second and both didn't sell aso-ebi. The third is MY wedding and when the time comes, I won't sell aso-ebi to anyone either. Any other wedding aside these three will be attended on my own terms. 5 Likes |
