Oil To Hit $100? Pompeo Blames Iran For "Unprecedented" Drone Attack That Crippled Largest Saudi Oil Processing Facility

In a sharp, if perhaps not unexpected, escalation, US Secretary of State - now without John Bolton by his side - tweeted at 4pm on Saturday, that contrary to earlier reports, "there is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen" and instead accused Iran of launching today's "unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply" which has now indefinitely taken offline as much as 5mmb/d in Saudi crude production.

Drone strikes on key Saudi Arabian oil facilities, among the world's largest and most important energy production centers, have disrupted about half of the kingdom's oil capacity, or 5% of the daily global oil supply.

Yemen's Houthi rebels on Saturday took responsibility for the attacks, saying 10 drones targeted state-owned Saudi Aramco oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah news agency.

In a statement on Sunday, Saudi Arabian Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said that 5.7 million barrels a day of crude oil and gas production have been affected. The latest OPEC figures from August 2019 put the total Saudi production at 9.8 million barrels per day.

The energy minister said the "company is currently working to recover the lost quantities" of oil and will update the public within the next two days. "These attacks are not only aimed at the vital installations of the kingdom, but also on the global oil supply and its security, and thus pose a threat to the global economy."

The Saudi interior ministry had confirmed that the drone attacks caused fires at the two facilities. In a statement posted on Twitter, the ministry said the fires were under control and that authorities were investigating.

"Abqaiq is perhaps the most critical facility in the world for oil supply. Oil prices will jump on this attack," Jason Bordoff,

“Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed attack “

“A successful attack on Abqaiq is about the worst thing energy security planners think about, because the specialized equipment there would be difficult to quickly replace,” said Mr. McNally

It was not immediately clear how badly the facilities were damaged, but shutting them down for more than a few days would affect the global oil supply. Analysts who closely follow the Saudi oil industry said they were hearing that the impact would not be severe — perhaps only a few days’ outage, which the Saudis could cover with reserves.

“Crude prices will still rise a bit, but apparently the world economy dodged a bullet,” said Robert McNally, the president of Rapidan Energy Group, a Washington-based market research firm.

“The drones used in Saturday’s attacks may have cost $15,000 or less to build. The strikes illustrate how David-and-Goliath tactics using cheap drones are adding a new layer of volatility to the Middle East.” grin grin grin grin grin

Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was one of their largest attacks ever inside the kingdom.

"We promise the Saudi regime that our future operations will expand and be more painful as long as its aggression and siege continue," a Houthi spokesman said. The attack deployed 10 drones, the Houthis said.

What these 'superpower countries' fail to realise is that it's much easier to destroy than to build. If you refuse to allow these smaller countries rest, then you too will not sleep. The resources pumped into military hardware annually is enough to end poverty globally and by extension, terrorism.

Oga, may your wisdom be bullish.

This is a better way of dealing with global conflicts. SIPRI puts the 2018 military budget at $18trillion, imagine what that amount would do to these trouble-making countries.

The 1991 scenario is loading. AKA gulf oil windfall for Nigeria.
We can see a retaliatory move by US backed Saudi Arabia against Russia backed Iran.
The happiness of Russia is to see total disruption of World Oil supply and production which will potentially boost their domestic economy due to sharp crude oil prices.
Buhari is already planning how he is going to empower the fulanis with the potential windfall that Nigeria stands to benefit.
https://punchng.com/fulani-have-taken-over-nigerias-affairs-prof-nwala-adf-president/
IBB pocketed the windfall in 1991
Abacha looted the windfall
Obasanjo looted part of the windfall and minted new young multi millionaires in Nigeria and left the legacy of spending $18B without generating a watt of electricity.
Yaradua... Missed out
GEJ looted and shaired the windfall with his CABINET and benefactors of oil subsidies scam.
Buhari is interesting In the absolute empowerment of the Fulanis.
Starting with Transport University in daura
Dualisation of roads in Katsina kano, jigawa and kaunda axis.
Establishment of RUGA nationwide at all cost, now rebranded as NATIONAL LIVESTOCK TRANSFORMATION PLAN.
I DOUBT IF THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE IMMINENT CRUDE OIL PRICE RISES WILL HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT ON NIGERIA ECONOMY.
If he likes, he might write his name in gold and embark on nationwide infrastructure development.
Spreading on three pivots of Electricity, Road, and Education.
I hope Nigeria will be prepared for this unexpected windfall that might last more than expected.
IRAN VS SAUDI ARABIA OIL WINDFALLS
RUSSIA VS US OIL WINDFALLS

The US has let Saudi Arabia down.
With all the total radar coverage provided by the US, the US permanent military base in the kingdom,
The sophisticated weapons and aerial defense provided by US for Saudi Arabia, the kingdom aerial was penetrated by Iran backed Yemen which is actually being supported by Putin the war monger.
This is a big slap and indictment of US military.

Ur doing quite well, but if I have to explain why it makes sense to align more portfolio weighting to ACCESS than UBA, it will take more than 2 pages.

Prior to and as at Q1, u would recall that I chose UBA ahead of ACCESS(we had a healthy debate at the time) ...but things have changed.
Make no mistake; Both coys are good(I have both in my inv portfolio), however, there are a few good reasons why one should align more(portfolio weight) with the former than the latter(for now)

It's all about growth trajectory, risk weighting and earnings power.
...I hope to make it brief though.

Just give me a few hours. Am attending a small function now.

Excerpts from the link;

"...That said, how then can we ascertain which of the 2(btw access and uba) has more VALUE?
The best way to answer to that would be to try to look in on both coys GROWTH TRAJECTORY, RISK WEIGHTING and EARNINGS POWER, and then gauge their potential by evaluating the level of inherent VALUE therein.
To that end, certain KEY revenue and earnings factor line can come in handy.........
...The pivotal KEY ratios for a same sector P2P comparison are;

1) Enterprise value to ebitda(a valuation tool used to compare similar businesses by looking at how earnings in real terms can replicate a company's total value)
2) PEG ratio(a measure of how quick a coys earnings growth can clone the waiting period of return(p/e) of an investment)
3) PAT MARGIN/NET MARGIN, NET INCOME and FCF.
4) EM(a measure that soughts to see how a coys earnings power can duplicate its equity), ROAE and ROAA.
5) Risk ratio(D/E in view) ...a liquidity measure that seeks to compare how a coys debt burden takes away from what would've been due to an equity holder.
6) NAV, P/B and BVPS.

In analysing their potential.........
...Put differently, ACCESS has delivered a higher average return, even with........."

This means that the Saudis may have to make do with approx 4M bpd of oil output !!
In the short term, this is a plus for oil price. Mid-term impact will however depend on how fast and well the kingdom restores outage by recovering lost qtys.

This should lend a helping hand in support to the Nigerian economy(short term revenue-earnings in view) given that the country had just agreed to a supply cut in the last opec meeting.
In retrospect, the shortfall in revenue from reduced supply can be supported by higher pricing.(while it last)
That said, I still believe that the mid to long term future prospect of oil remains bleak.
Unfortunately, the thing about gross incompetence means that our leaders are yet to realize or perhaps come to terms with that.

In the interim, this should indirectly aide some of the factors that could transmit positive vibes in the equity market.
...I expect a further boost in the current positive mkt trend.
