My town is in Ihiala LGA, we don't kill both python and Ewi. We have a shrine dedicated to python. Those days in the village python will enter our house and swallow our foul, the best we could do is to use stick to take it out. One of my cousin usually use hand to carry it to the bush. Ewi is also sacred. Ewi was like a domestic animal in my town. My grandfathers ban was a home to a lot of them. We only go there to chase them away to stop them from eating the yams. People from the neighbouring towns usually refer us as "Mbosi ichi eri ewi". 4 Likes |

In much of Anambra, it is a taboo to kill or harm a python. I remember one time I was driving to somewhere in my village. A Python was trying to cross the road but it was sluggish. We all had to wait in hold up for a good 20 minutes until this massive python crossed the road. As an Anambra man, when I see pictures of people killing Python, even cooking it to eat, I'm very angry In some parts of Igbo land, that animal is sacred. 9 Likes |

Agulu, some parts of Dunukofia, Idemili and very many parts if Anambra don't allow the killing of pythons. I remembered asking one old man why they are not killed, his answer... " did it attack me, did it swallow any animal I'm rearing, why should I be wicked to them, why didn't I use o stick or something to shove it off?" Questions were so much that I had to apologize (ordinary question o). Most Anambra communities don't kill pythons 8 Likes 2 Shares |

I thought about this yesterday when I was bathing.....I laugh out loud when people say there is nothing like jazz in Africa....I remembered when I was young when things are not moving well for my parents in lagos....my parents decided to move me down to the village to stay with my moms brother in Anambra State ozubulu precisely.......it's well known that ozubulu people don't kill Python...I remember having my bath together with Python in our bathroom....it won't even attack me...it will jst wrap itself one side....I also remembered cooking in our kitchen several times.... Python will jst pass through my legs without attacking me.... that's when I know that Snake body is always cool...that's why they like staying in a cool place....i also remembered waking up some times seeing Python by my side...it really baffle me anytime I think about it nw....I spent more than 3 years there...for once I never heard or see where Python attack anybody....I swear there is power in this world....nw if I see small tiny snake I go run like tomorrow no dey 16 Likes |

I have read everything here and there is a lot of misinformation. First, pythons are not venomous. This is for the person that said a python bit a woman and the venoms came out. Second, the variety of pythons not killed by some northern Igbos are the African ball pythons. They do not grow to become giant beasts like the ones we see on Nairaland killed by people in bushes. The ball python is smaller and generally doesn’t attack people. An African rock python would swallow you if it’s extremely hungry and can’t find food. There is a big difference between these species. MelesZenawi: It’s up to you to choose to be ignorant. I wonder what exactly is the reason why you believe you have the right to tell me what to write here. Your forefathers knew everything and they sold their brothers into slavery. Dumb folks like you need to remain in your caves. You don’t like the Igbo tradition as much as I do and it’s up to me to do away with any aspect of it I choose. 25 Likes 2 Shares |
