This Is The Most Dangerous Man In Nigeria

He was a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, an enviable position that made him the high priest of the Nigerian Constitution. A seer who took oath to serve Nigeria and his fellow citizens by helping all aggrieved to understand the spirit and letter of the Constitution.

But he was dangerous. Yes, Alfa Belgore has been allegedly identified as the man who helped a foreign company(P&ID) to win an award of $9.6 billion against Nigeria.

They paid, and he dissected loopholes in the Constitution as a legal expert to P&ID: “Acting as a legal consultant, Mr Belgore, head of the Supreme Court between 2006 and 2008, painstakingly analysed Nigeria’s laws, exploited its shortcomings and cited case laws for the benefit of the firm.”

He is the most dangerous man in Nigeria. Yes, we have Yahoo Boys, 419ers, corporate raiders, and their cousins, but that a former Chief Justice can use his knowledge of Nigerian law in this way is despicable. Nigeria trained him to master those laws; today, he has paid us this way. I hope this is fake news – but Premium Times is never known for one.

Unfortunately, Justice Belgore is not alone – people sign contracts to defraud Nigeria in London, California and Beijing because of personal gains. That remains the Nigerian demon – no patriotism.

I am not a lawyer but this man should be excommunicated in the club of learned gentlemen even if he has not broken any written code. He is unworthy to serve

For the former Chief Justice, it was all business.

It did not matter that he was providing an expert legal opinion against his country whose judiciary he once headed. It did not matter that Nigeria stood to lose the case on account of his testimony, neither did it matter that offering such service to a foreign company was illegal.

All that mattered, it seems, was money.

PREMIUM TIMES can today confirm that a key legal argument the British firm, P&ID Limited, used in securing the humongous arbitral award of $9.6 billion (N3.2 trillion) against Nigeria was provided by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Alfa Belgore.

Acting as a legal consultant, Mr Belgore, head of the Supreme Court between 2006 and 2008, painstakingly analysed Nigeria’s laws, exploited its shortcomings and cited case laws for the benefit of the firm.

And he did break a written law, according to the Constitution. He is the most dangerous man in Nigeria and should be arrested and tried! I hope he has enough money to defend himself – stupid man.

Section 5 of the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution prohibits former presidents, vice presidents, Chief Justice of Nigeria, governors and deputy governors from working for foreign companies or enterprises.

PREMIUM TIMES has obtained full details of the advice provided by Mr Belgore to rubbish the Nigerian government’s defence in the suit.

In the written legal advice offered to P&ID, Mr Belgore, who is still a member of the National Council of State, a key advisory body to Nigerian presidents, specifically admitted that he was working for a foreign company.

“I have been instructed on behalf of Process and Industrial Developments Limited (“P&ID”), a company incorporated in the territory of the Virgins Island (“BVI”), to prepare a statement addressed to the Arbitral tribunal in answer to the questions put to me by P&ID in connection with this arbitration,” he wrote

He then presented extensive legal arguments to puncture the defence by Nigerian government lawyers.

I have gone through people's comments up to page 5, and I can boldly conclude that this platform is a home to hopeless and frustrated young Nigerians. If Nigerian leaders are wise, they need to sanitized the internet space as soon as possible. The Chinese method would be perfect!

The old man has spent most of his lifetime already and never consider the danger of such judgement against fellow Nigerians who struggle day and night just to find something to eat. The most sad and unfortunate part is that "it is against the constitution for him rendering such service", yet we have some people here turning it to tribal issue....

I'm not Nigerian, but your questions seem to lack logic. You seem to not appreciate the fact that this man in question is/was not an ordinary Nigerian. HE WAS THE CHIEF JUSTICE. THE OVERLORD OF THE SUPREME COURT. THE CUSTODIAN OF NIGERIAN LAWS AND CONSTITUTION. He was THE FATHER of the legal system. He swore oaths, on many occasions, to protect Nigerian laws.
Even if it wasn't illegal for him to work for any foreign establishment, it's still wrong on so many levels, and the company knew it, and he knew that as well. Africans need to learn patriotism and stop blaming others for our woes. Not to sound harsh, this man needs to face the laws he has betrayed.

As long as what he did is against the country, you lot must come to the defence of the same ab0ki you hate and insult every hour. It is similar situation that turned Sambo Dasuki, Elzakzak, Atiku etc to your darlings. Had he did something in favour of Nigeria, pretty sure you would have hurled countless insult at him. And you expect to be of any use to yourself, not to talk of others?

A person just betrayed the confidence reposed in him and it is about being paid to do so? Just like a woman was paid to kill her husband (a very easy task for her) and she is justified according to this sh!t you just dropped?

Don't worry, one of your loved ones who practically knows everything about you will soon be paid to carry out such a nice job. Cheers.

The Decision

Process & Industrial Developments Ltd. ("PID"wink, a BVI entity, entered a "Gas Supply and Processing Agreement" with Nigeria (the "Agreement"wink. Under the Agreement, PID was to build and operate a gas processing plant for "wet gas" to be supplied from the Nigerian Ministry of Petroleum Resources. The Agreement had a 20 year term. Furthermore, the Agreement contained an arbitration clause, which stated:

"The Agreement shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. … The Parties agree that if any difference or dispute arises between them concerning the interpretation or performance of this Agreement and if they fail to settle such difference or dispute amicably, then a Party may serve on the other a notice of arbitration under the rules of the Nigerian Arbitration and Conciliation Act (Cap A18 LFN 2004) which, except as otherwise provided herein, shall apply to any dispute between such Parties under this Agreement. … The arbitration award shall be final and binding upon the Parties. … The venue of the arbitration shall be London, England or otherwise as agreed by the Parties. The arbitration proceedings and record shall be in the English language. …" (emphasis added)

Subsequently, Nigeria failed to supply wet gas to PID, and PID commenced an arbitration against Nigeria for damages. After several "part" awards and procedural orders, the Tribunal (chaired by Lord Hoffmann) ruled that: (1) Nigeria had breached the Agreement; and (2) PID was entitled to damages of approximately US$9 billion, which reflected PID's lost profits over the 20 year life of the Agreement (the "Final Award"wink.

How is he different from our SANs that defend politicians? Do you know how much politicians have looted successfully because they hired SANs who doesn't care if the country who trained them bleeds to death?

Don't mind them jare .. Our present SAN's recently said that an Affidavit supercedes an authentic certificate.
So when did the SAN say so?

Keep talking of a missing original certificate even though its missing has been so drummed to the ears of everyone that deaf and dumb have heard.

Yes, he lost his certificate and an affidavit serves whatever purpose the certificate serves as long as it can be proved same certificate was ever issued.

If you like, continue screaming this like a deaf man, the constitution is quite explicit on that and he remains the president even against your wish.
