The Acting Chief Judge (CJ) of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho has promised to work towards improved efficiency and workers’ welfare as he revealed that about 116,623 cases are pending in the courts.

Speaking at the beginning of the 2019/2010 new legal year of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice John Tsoho said 16,144 cases were filed this quarter alone out of which 12,692 had been disposed off.

The Chief Judge who hailed court’s judges for their contributions to the promotion of democracy especially the efficient handling of election matters, also promised to ensure the appointment of more judges for the court due to the high volume of pending cases.

“From the reports received, about 116,623 cases are pending in the Federal High Court; 16,144 cases were filed in this quarter alone in which 12,692 have been disposed off.

“It is obvious that the judges were over-burdened with work in the last legal year. We, therefore, need to engage more judicial officers to help out.

“However, it does appear that there was no provision for appointment of judges in the current budget.

“I will make efforts to discuss with the relevant stakeholders to see to the possibility of facilitating the recruitment of more judicial officers in the course of the year" he said.

How many are they?

There's nothing controversial about this particular statement.

He's actually quite right. Our judges are horribly overworked and the sad thing is that there is technology which can make the judge's work easier, but the NJC insists that judges must continue to conduct proceedings in court using longhand. Why won't court proceedings be slow?

I hope judiciary will someday gets adequate facilities needed to aid quick dispensation of justice. The workload of cases nearly in all court in this country is too much, and the environment is not condusive either.

This is what NBA should help bring to fore for urgent attention if indeed it cares that much about justice. But the NBA that cares so much about SAN's pocket will not mind about the well-being and welfare of its members. Naija my country!

That's the naija way. A pended case is a settled case. If you know you know.

Imagine a 500w power bank that has an inbuilt lithium ion battery of 250,000mah that could save power for just your TV, Sound system, decoder, PCs and lightings for up to 12hours uptime. REN solar hub is the place to visit. Nationwide delivery.

What a fuucked up country

You can imagine the kind of country we live in where the rule of law has lost it credibility.

I can bet my left ball that most of those pending and abandoned cases are those of our corrupt politicians. Just be a little famous and connected in this shithole, you can buy the judiciary.

Sadly, innocent poor men who's case are yet to be taken to court are lavishing in prison while many whose case has been heard in court are still walking free, since the court keep adjourning their case till infinity.

I understand that. I was simply trying to say that there are ways by which the process of adjudication can be speeded up.
