It's not luxury tax.

It's policy implementation tax, aimed at encouraging cashless transactions.

People really need to stop moving bundles of cash around.
i think this will prevent embezzling funds. because if the society goes cashless then the banks know all the deposits of thieves and looters because it will be in their account. now it would be easy to locate looters. no more moving huge wads of cash around. this is a brilliant move

Tax on deposit? Wow!
This is really Pathetic.

Aim at encouraging cashless transactions? This Govt is not getting their policy right. same Government planning to impose extra VAT on online purchases. You discourage them in one and encourage it another policy. Who does that?
That is confusion to me

if you want to live like the west ( as many of you nigerians desire to ) you must learn to pay tax like the west

Stories that are illogical.
How did he get money to send all his children to schools abroad? Even secondary school?
Where did he get money for elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011 plus Supreme court cases?
If it smells like a lie, quacks like a lie, then it must be a lie.

Jonathan did that in his clueless corruption, why not the saint?

Imagine this kind of useless evil policy that will only impoverish the masses and then take us 100 steps backwards into the stone age where people start keeping money at home and start paying for things with cash. Buhari government is the worst economic government since 1999. As bad as GEJ was economically in terms of corruption, Buhari admin doubles that with terrible economic policies. GEJ government might have pushed Nigeria into recession, but I swear it's Buhari government that is keeping Nigeria in recession and adding frustration to it. By this time Buhari is done, Nigeria will be in super recession. What a very useless government. CBN has been very brain dead under Buhari.

Yes, I am asking.
What was his salary then when minimum wage was not even up to N5,000 that Obasanjo increased it to in 2000
A general who is a thief, is what you mean. The fact that "even people with lesser jobs" steal to afford the schools abroad is no excuse for your General to also be a rogue.

Obasanjo gives workers a 'living wage'
1 MAY 2000

President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday announced a massive increase in the Nigerian minimum wage to bring levels into line with economic reality, after the level had remained unchanged since 1981.

The new monthly minimum wage will 5 500 naira (about R370) compared to the previous legal minimum of only 250 naira (about R17)

Public sectors workers will receive a monthly minimum of 7 500 naira as against their current minimum of 3 500 naira, which was updated more recently in September 1998.

Do u know why nigerians give politicans free hand because in the real sense we dont pay tax

As at today the average nigerian pays less that 600 a month as tax ..and u expect heave and earth from that

Id it development before tax or tax before development

lol, u guys are funny. So, u really think ur leaders will cut down on their pay? Our senators are among the highest paid in the world. U really think paying higher tax will make Nigerians go out there to fight their leaders when the leaders have used ethnic and religious sentiment to blindfold Nigerians? Politicians that have used illiteracy and poverty to cage Nigerians.

Seems u dont understand the Nigerian system. And funny enough, Nigerians pay tax, there nothing we do that does not have value added tax. Every worker has his tax deducted before he gets paid. Go to business areas and see how much tax is been collected from traders. They complain bitterly of multiple tax. Telecom companies lamented the other of multiple taxation. Nigerian leaders should show evidence of the tax they collect and not use the little collected to tell police to kill protesters.

How can u use police, a public institution funded with taxpayers money to kill protesters who are protesting against bad leadership and u want others to happily pay tax. There is nothing I will say that will make sense to you. So, let forget it. Nigerians cant hold their leaders accountable becus we have been highly divided via religion and ethnic sentiments.

Secondly, Nigerians are naturally greedy. Those who can organize protests are easily bought with lucrative offers and positions. That is why u cant find a decent activists anymore.

ur celebrities who could have become voices are benefiting from politicians. They offer them deals and use them for money laundering. So they get paid. The masses dont have any organized framework. Labour union that should have easily helped organized the masses are highly compromised. They cant speak against the govt becus they work hand in hand.
