It's all part of the recent policies geared towards a cashless economy. However, I see it as attempt to want to do the RIGHT thing at the WRONG time.
A cashless economy is good, but in practice(not mere theory) it doesn't really exist.
What most developed and devoloping economies do is work to tap from the benefits by continually adjusting their system and structures.
The problem is that Nigeria is not ready for it yet. ...the structure to allow for an effective implementation is just not there.
A lot of policy tweaks and twist would need to be put in place if this would drive for more merits than demerits.
1st off, I think we have to create a business friendly environment.(Nigeria is clearly not) ...then work on our fiscal and economic policy ends to drive down bearing risk and encourage digital inclusiveness.

Even then, we will still need to start from somewhere.
U can not desire for a cashless economy, when in practice, ur barely managing to be cash-lite one.
What we need is a more expanded inclusive cash-lite policy... then we can gradually spread our tentacles towards been cashless by putting the right systems and structures in place.

...my take.

Overall, this policy is a plus for the banks.(more earnings pool, particularly from fees & commission)
However, it now makes a little more sense to exercise caution towards banks that have had contracting deposit pool and growth rate in income(interest income from the digital space in view).
...and align more with those experiencing the opposite heading into FY, 2019.

On that note, I like GTB, ACCESS, ZENITH, FCMB, UBA, FIDELITY, STANBIC and WEMA.

But I'll prefer to be cautious with banks like STERLING, UNION, UNITY and JAIZ BANK.

...but that's just me. So due diligence should still remain ur 1st priority.

Sometimes I wonder if this people think at all. At the end traders in our markets will resort to keeping their money in their shops or houses.

As a proud owner of 37 filling stations and 45 osusu, I have to apply for banking license for my filling stations and osusu... tongue grin

When they will roll it out nationwide then we know the end is near?

That is the problem with UBA. Though the bank always have good numbers to back it up, but when it comes to capital appreciation, it could be frustrating for the holders. FCMB and other small bank would have returned 150% appreciation before UBA will be struggling to give you 75%.
