General misconception is that University Education is for all classes of people, however every developed country only consider Universities for people who can use the knowledge to payback student loan, or get schorlarship and work for government, monotechnics, polytechnics and colleges are generally for all class

Sigh... Your evasive tactics are not necessary...

Let me repeat the real question here in line with the topic under discourse: What is the essence of a church setting up a university from the proceeds of her members, most of whom end up unable to afford the tuition??!... What about the secondary and primary schools??! Is good secondary education not also for everyone??!... While we are on this, is Nigeria now a developed country??!

Good one,

but i prefer standardized paid and subsidized education like Covenant University or robust schorlarship scheme for deserving serious students only

Free Education is what untimately destroyed Nigerian education system

...

Abi?
Why should you help the poor? Why not just build expensive schools with supposed quality of education just so poor people would not be able to attend? .

If you check tuition fees of colleges across the world ranked close to Covenant especially in southafrica and India then you would understand Covenants 1million tuition ($3000) is still subsidised with winners church tithe payers money.. even with the infrastructure on ground tuition fees cant recoup such investment

So because of that, we shouldn't have free schools for poor people to attend? Because your reasoning is baffling.

Even with the 'subsidty', how many people can afford Covenant without breaking a sweat?

How many people do you want to give scholarships to?

Such effort, like the one done by this school, should be commended. You say Free education destroyed Nigeria, but so many people are able to fend for themselves because of same free education. What most people need is a platform. Standard or not. Just give them a means to gain a little knowledge, and it would impart on their lives.

I don't even get your beef. Is anyone forcing you to bring your kids to the school? Who honestly cares what you prefer?

The bolded is what makes Apostle Chibuzor special when you consider he is also housing lots free, providing free medicare, carrying industrial training all free. He is amazing and unbelievable.

I agree with your submission, completely.

The logic is, the people you are providing education for aren't all millionaires. Perhaps a smarter move would have been building "cheaper schools with a relatively lesser standard.....without compromising the basics of education.." Like this, a larger chunk if the population would benefit.

But I understand Mr. Oyedepo has a target, that is, making Covenant one of the top schools at the international level. This, too, is a good objective. This entails investing heavily in science and agriculture. It entails bringing world class teachers, professors, researchers et al. This costs money. Some huge money.

I am a strong critic of the Nigerian church but even in criticism, we must be truthful to ourselves. Covenant is doing well for itself. It can't achieve this height if it were entirely free. This is an unbiased truth.

You'd agree with me that the Apostle, at the moment, does not have a "world standard school.." (for lack of a better term). I don't think the reason is because he can't afford it. Perhaps the reason is because of the financial capacity of a greater percentage of his church - and the populace.

You mentioned housing. This, too, is another beautiful achievement of this gentleman. But recall that building houses is a one-time-expense project. Unlike running a school or a hospital where you'd need to pay your staff monthly.

I've also read that he has a hospital. I think it's free too.

In all, our religious leaders can do better. And at this pace, I think one day, soon, we would get there.

You are focusing too much on universities.

What this man opened was a basic education centre, either primary or secondary. Why compare it to Covenant if you aren't just looking for unnecessary talks?

How many other MOGs have free secondary schools?

That is the context here.

I never condemned the gesture, merely stated the policy should be scholarship based.. student with poor accademic perfomance can be sent to acquire skills or technical schools

Last year there was similar ''good news'' here on Nairaland front page about the same church. I was moved and went to their website www.opmworldwide.com and donated N10,000. The church charged my VISA card about N70,000 but emailed me that my card was declined. The fraud was duly reported to the EFCC and ICPC but as you'll expect these institutions don't serve the interest of common Nigerians.

I am not saying you should or shouldn't donate them money but be careful!!. Be careful this is Nigeria!!. I've been bitten!.

See below.

School is close to my house. Wanted to enroll my maid in this school. Who no like free better thing. Mehn got there and parked my car, walked in with my maid. Explained myself and why i came. The response I got was a resounding one. They said sir this school is for the less privileged and you don't look it.

But honestly this OPM man is the real deal. His the true symbol of the life of Christ.

I think he also has a free all girls technical college and a free nursing training program. His passion to uplift through actions of being his brother's keeper is inspiring and a challenge to other pastors to help turn around the World around them.

What happens to the children of less privilege who have not had proper education, are you saying because they have no chance to get education, they do not deserve education.

Goal 4 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is QUALITY EDUCATION

Achieving inclusive and quality education for all reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development.

This goal ensures that all girls and boys complete free primary and secondary schooling by 2030. It also aims to provide equal access to affordable vocational training, and to eliminate gender and wealth disparities with the aim of achieving universal access to a quality higher education.

Not deserving but all children. Especially those who are not privileged to provide education.

OAP Daady Freeze has taken to social media to expose an estate where poor people, rehabilitated criminals and sex workers are housed and fed for free.

Read his post below;

Imagine an estate where poor people, rehabilitated criminals and sex workers are housed and fed FOR FREE as they pick up the pieces of their lives?
-
My brother and friend Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere has made this possible with the newly commissioned OPM free estate.
-
This is what church money should be used for, this is what the church should do.

-
◄ 2 Corinthians 12:15 ►
And for the sake of your souls, I will most gladly spend my money and myself. If I love you more, will you love me less?
-
◄ Matthew 14 ►
[15] That evening the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” [16] But Jesus said, “That isn’t necessary—you feed them.

This comparison is not a fair one because the cost of living and standard of living are not the same. Besides, you also have to look at the minimum wage for the countries under comparison. Please, there is nothing like subsidy. Let those who can afford it go there. But I don't think it's an aspect of ministry that will attract heavenly reward. But that of OPM will certainly be rewarded because he considered the poor and minister to them. Oyedepo school is only for the rich.

No such thing as subsidy. Covenant University is for the rich and Oyedepo will not receive any eternal reward for that. You are only rewarded when you minister to the poor.
