Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 6:35pm On Sep 19, 2019 |
Toju200:the dog is still very young at 5 months, some take longer before they show aggression. the breed is naturally aggressive, all you have to do is wait for your dog to mature |
Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 6:43pm On Sep 19, 2019 |
Greenarrow01:the aggression will come with time, you guys are expecting too much from puppies. and walking 2 times a week doesn't make a dog meek. it's even good to frequently socialise a puppy to prevent nervousness or fear aggression. when a dog isn't well balanced, it's aggression will be less reckless. do you think all those dogs you see that work with the military and help take down criminals are locked up or chained all day for them to be aggressive like that? restricting your dog from the world and letting it grow on a chain turns the dog into a very unstable threat to people both innocent and evil. fear aggression is not good aggression and it doesn't make a dog a good guard dog. allow your pup to mature naturally |
Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 6:56pm On Sep 19, 2019 |
Toju200:if you and Greenarrow01 need some tips I used to boost Roscoe's guard instincts I can help too. the instincts will manifest naturally but their are some small trainings you can do with the dog to make it respond more aggressively to intruders. it works better when the dog has already started showing signs of aggression tho |

For some days now I've been finding fur all around my house and compound and immediately I knew the culprit. I haven't been able to groom him for about 2weeks now but the amount of fur I combed out surprised me, I had to even sweep clumps of fur out of my bathroom after bathing him and pull out some from the drain. the one on the pic is just the fur I combed out from his body his puppy fur is finally gone lol, he has been shedding them off heavily for some time now and I think this is close to the last one because the puppy fur is almost completely gone. I try to comb him once a week to prevent matts and tangles and it works, if the detached fur isn't there to tangle with the new one then his fur will be free and neat. sometimes when I'm free or bored I just call him and run a comb through his fur.

Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 2:15pm On Sep 22, 2019 |
Toju200:yeah hopefully the shedding will stop soon because their is fur literally everywhere right now. on the compound walls, on our clothes, the center piece in the parlour, I'm tired of sweeping and brushing them off |
Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by Toju200(m): 2:17pm On Sep 22, 2019 |
IamAnderson:the work nor be here oo I should start preparing myself.... but I do brush mine every day.... |
Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 2:31pm On Sep 22, 2019 |
Toju200:when the fur comes out longer comb it instead, combing it will detangle the ones that are already tangled and remove the detached fur too. start preparing yourself for your dog's shedding season ooh it's good as you regularly brush his fur, it'll make grooming him easier for you, mine wasn't groomed in 2 weeks during his shedding period that's why the fur came out like that |

IamAnderson:You have a great command of words. Excellent diction My very first experience with a Boerboel too... She was pedigree and well socialized. She played tirelessly with me in front of the house even as I was a stranger to her, and I was convinced I was accepted into her pack. So I thought. Her owner was returning her to the company and I wanted to accompany them. She pulled against her leash as she entered through the gate, turned and waited for her alpha to enter. She was giving me a stern look but I didn't pay much attention. I was about to step in when she charged at me while giving out some growls. The owner had to pull hard against the leash to prevent an attack. Then there came this noisy unending barks with several attempts to test her biting force on me while giving off some deadly growls. The perplexed owner and clueless me were so lost as to the reason for the sudden action. The summary was,she was territorial. She only does that when in her territory. Outside it, she is as harmless as a dove |

IamAnderson:He ought not to be attacking strangers when off leash. You have done a great job though achieving this even at a time devoid of people, trust me I know it's lot of work for hyper active dogs . I have tried it but to no success (the dog wasn't mine though, guess I didn't have enough time to do so, even though the dog and I really bonded well). A starting point is a regularly crowded place, but at a time not crowded, maybe l late at night or early hours of the day. I used be an active participant on Petland before now, but I now have ither distractions but one I can never forget is a thread created by LordRegalia. He is a great personality here on Nland and TBE, with his Terrifc expertise in Boerboels. You can learn a thing or two on his thread is you spend a lil of your time there. He is an accomodating fellow https://www.nairaland.com/3018056/how-trained-dog-walk-off |
Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 10:23am On Sep 26, 2019 |
okikiosibodu:he does the exact same thing that boerbel does too once he's inside the compound, people he'd let get close to him and even touch him outside are gonna get attacked if they try to enter. their was a time I took him out to see a friend that had 3 dogs so he could socialize with them. after we were done(we spent several house there), my friend escorted us back home and even walked him on the road. when we got home, I left him outside with my friend to get something inside the house then after a few moments I started hearing barking and my friend calling my name when I ran back outside I saw that my friend was about locking him in his kennel, when I entered inside then he turned on my friend and tried to attack him. fortunately, he was already inside the kennel when he turned back so my friend was pressing the kennel door shut while Roscoe was barking and trying to get to him 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Diary of my Caucasian Roscoe by IamAnderson(m): 10:49am On Sep 26, 2019 |
okikiosibodu:ah thanks a lot I'll read the thread I still think he's going to attack people if he's offleash tho, anytime I'm walking him around that time he's usually very alert and self conscious, once someone starts walking on the street he'll know and start waiting to attack the person if the person does anything suspicious. I think maybe it's because of the time I walk him, when I walk him during the day he's more laid back and relaxed esp when there's a crowd. when it's dark, if he sees anyone carrying a torch, running, or carrying something like a bag or stick or even umbrella as a suspect and he growls at them, even if they're coming behind us he'll wait and turn back to stare and growl at them until I wait for them to pass and go far away from us. if the person shouts or runs, he attacks them, even if I raise my voice at them he attacks. I don't trust him off leash around people so he won't hurt someone thinking he's defending me. he also does this during car rides, he doesn't let anyone close to the car, he'll put his head at the window and bark, anyone that comes too close to the car or touches it will get barked at. the worst is if you put your hand through the window or try to open the door . sometimes when we go out we leave him in the car (with the windows down and the car parked in a shade of course) with confidence that the car is safe for now, I only take the leash off when the road is empty, once I notice he's stopped walking and he's staring and growling at the distance, I know someone is coming and I put the leash back on. and upon all my pleas with people not to stare at us or run or even flash torch at us, they still do those things which in turn will trigger him to see them as dangerous, the people that just mind there business and walk past, he ignores them(he'll just stare at them till they go). I just feel like he's protective and territorial, not everyone will understand that they're the one's making him see them as dangerous, if an accident should occur I'll be the one to carry the blame despite all my warnings so I'm just trying to keep him away from people who don't know how to act around dogs(which is virtually every one in my area ) I'll still check out the thread tho, I usually let him walk off leash when it's very early and the road is empty so I'll still need it, thanks a lot bro |

IamAnderson:Haq haq haq. If you ask me, he is just being a dog.... Watching you back. It's amazing to process this.... You see a terrifying dog and you get scared, yet the owner tells you not to worry, don't run, stay calm. Put yourself in the shoes of someone that doesnt know much about canine communication, isn't that madness? Unfortunately things they do when scared, triggers the canine instinct, and attack is imminent on the long run. It's a loop effect. The dog is being a good dog, watching your back. So anyone approaching fast, is a a potential threat. Anyone holding something is holding a "weapon". Anyone you raise your voice at in his presence, is a threat, etc. It is important you yourself are not scared cos your dog can sense it... Owing to the fact that you must have bonded.... And that can triggered his instincts to protect you from anyone drawing close. You are doing a good job. Keep it up bro. I will take a rest sit and follow updates 1 Like 1 Share
