Hello my people, how una dey.

The next season of cucumber is going on well. God is great. So I thought I should update and encourage everyone.

For this season, we planted mostly dark green Darina cultivar but also planted Cu999 (my ever sure!). The total plant population is just over 7000. Some are at Day 28 and others at Day 30. We will be harvesting next week by the special grace of God.

Is anyone using the recipe I posted a few weeks ago? If they are trying please I would love to hear how you're progressing.

Special mentions to my lil bros (Bros Emeka's sons) it's good to see the entrepreneurship spirit! The young shall definitely grow. But Bro Emeka I didn't know you were that old eh wink That's why you also have to be respectful in any platform because you never know the person you interacting with. My only little one is bearly 2 years old, I have a long way to go before he can start his own summer project.

Stay blessed.

please how many plots of land did you use in planting this your pepper?

The reason i dislike pepper is the harvesting part whereby you start scratching and itching like a mad person.

But i dont really know how you guys harvest yours over there.
pepper don't itch,if you dare go inside a garden egg farm to harvest it and you don't cover all your body, you will run mad with itching

150# per stand its not a joke in tomato farming, its like saying you making 1.5M per acre. 10,000 plants *#150

Financial record keeping is very important per plant or meter square.

You can't compare south south and east market with south west biko.

If I may ask how much did you make per stand from cucumber.
I will use my boys cucumber farm which is roughly now around 1200 crops, they harvested the third time today and got 6 bags, making total cash revenue of #92,000,if you divide that with 1200 it will be 76 naira and they will still harvest for another 3-4 times.

Hello Okoroemeka, pls how do you fertilize your peppers and what spacing do you used? Have u ever used rainguns with peppers? Thanks.
just put manure in your planting hole before transplant and put npk 201010 after 2 weeks and continue fertilizing every month, reduce to 2 weeks when fruiting, raingun works for pepper, garden egg, cabbage, okra, etc

one plastic spoonful per crop, yes it was in agriculture I made the first mil,I drove a family friend for an agric expo in ibadan,we went to many farms and we came to Moor plantation research farm, the manager was looking for buyers for their pig weaners,I asked the price,he said #2000k each, hmmmm!after our return to east I asked myself how hard can it be,we have space were I can rear then,so I went back bought 100 weaners, paid #50k for transportation and after 6 months of management, one buyer came and cleared all @15k per one, total #1,5 million,so that's how I became a millionaire in year 2000.

Super cool experience, thanks. One gud thing about pigs is their resilience against diseases. i just hope you will open a thread on piggery, esp the feeding aspect.

to further our knowledge about okra farming we decided to visit the legendary okra producing towns of awgu and odume in enugu state to learn more, but sadly there's nothing to learn at the numerous farms we went to,no good agricultural practice,no application of organic manure, zero crop rotation, poor spacing and the saddest part is that an agricultural town that produces so much okra doesn't have even one agrc extension agent to advice the farmers its a pity to see the depths of degradation at the numerous agric ministries in the state capitals, the staff are there with the wrong mindset, monthly salary.with just a little encouragement and prodding these farms I saw will increase production, from what I saw on the ground they are just producing crops at 20/30% efficiency.

these beds in the pics below are not nursery beds they are the actual permanent place they have planted the okra,no fertilizer,no organic manure, poor spacing,no insecticide application, don't ever say fungicides or foliar fertilizer they don't know about that, what do you think will be the outcome of a farm like this?

Lol, even the pale colour of the harvested fruits shows they are from suffering plants.

I have heard people say this but it is not strictly true. From my experience, CU999 is sold at approx. #1000 Naira lower than dark green varieties, however first to be sold by the agents in the market is always CU999. Although it is sold at a lower rate, the demand from my experience is higher than dark green.

Yes, from the recommendation i see in Cu 999 pack. Closer spacing is also possible but avoid it during the rainy season because of disease issues. I also think that closer spacing is not good if there is heavy pest infestation, esp pests like whiteflies which are very difficult to control.
Okoroemeka, what's your take on this? Cukes should be spaced 60cm apart?

to me those okro plants lack nutrients and fertilizers, they should also go for forlier spray so those leafs can be greener and healthy enough.

I keep wodering how come some people fail to nurture and train their plants carefully,

they just really plant and leave it for God to take care of it,
please thats not the way to go here if not the plants will die or bring malnurished harvest,

its better to be wiser and take good care of them because you will reap what you sow

we are using 30cm spacing it gives more crop population and that means more fruits, with good management it has overall better yield, using 60cm is just waste of space, there is a 4 plot farm we are preparing to plant next week Thursday,it will be 30 cm or 1 feet spacing on ridges and 2-3 feet between ridges

I don't know what to call this, our okra plants are fruiting without flowering, fruits are everywhere with not even one flower in sight,I know some okra varieties can self pollinate like pepper, but having fruits develop straight without any sign of flowers,I will not deny this is my first time of seeing such, and if it continues like I suspect it will then the nihort NH-Ae47 variety is really full of surprises.
