SouthAfrica Arms Manufacturer Denel failed to supply R250million worth of Armoured vehicles to the government of #Chad, despite having been paid a R100million deposit almost two years ago This was why Chad bought from Nigeria. https://city-press.news24.com/News/denel-blows-r250m-arms-deal-with-chad-20190923 1 Like |

kabe1:so why are your waters still some of the most pirate infested and dangerous while ours are some of the safest, I mean certainly if our Navy isn't developed to confront threats and Nigerias is then your waters should be much safer than ours? |

jln115: The answer is simple. The volume of goods/shipment coming into Nigeria can never be compared with South Africa. The Nigerian waters is a busy route as compared to SA. Numbers of foreign shipment coming into Nigerian to SA is ratio 50 to 1. If you're a pirate which waters would you choose to hunt ...? The fertile or the dry waters 1 Like |

jln115:Piracy Incidents Down Off Nigeria The decrease is due, among other things, to a faster effort by the Nigerian fleet, says Danish Shipping. “We are very pleased that the number of incidents is on the decline. The development emphasizes how important it is that countries in the exposed regions start to live up to their responsibility as to safeguarding their waters, and for the Gulf of Guinea, we have especially seen Nigeria making an important effort,” says Asbjørn Overgaard Christiansen, Acting Director of Security, Environment and Maritime Research at Danish Shipping. https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/piracy-incidents-down-off-nigeria Like i said: The Nigerian navy has developed the assets it needs to confront the threats it faces. The Chad deal was a loss making contract concocted by the CEO and CFO ,so they could pilfer more cash through VR Laser. The Denel division responsible for building those vehicles weren't even notified of the contract until 3 months after the deal. SA Gov and Chad are in negotiations to return the deposit. jln115: 5 Likes |

jln115: Most of that piracy is in contiguous waters not necessarily in Nigerian waters but because it happens in the Gulf of Guinea of course biased western media portray it as Nigeria's inability to protect shipping in its waters. The reality is the Nigerian Navy has reduced piracy to a significant level generally in the gulf of Guinea and the stats prove it. And the answer to your question is oil. Another arguable point is the busiest ports because that's relative depending on actual amount of goods docking and going into either country. More goods are traded into Nigeria from other ECOWAS ports reducing tonnage docking in Lagos. So factual comparisons should be made. 1 Like |
