Topmost11:I'm not sure what you've contrived here but it sounds dangerous. An Isc of 60A (not sure how you arrived at this figure) is something to beware. Especially when coupled with a VoC of 190V. That's some heavy power for a DIY enthusiast. Commonly circulating panels suggest a 5s7p configuration. Even at 250W panels, that's some serious juice flowing through your system. I hope you have enough safety nets in place. 1 Like |

I'm thinking of getting a home inverter system for the 1st time ever. Can I please get recommendations to someone on this thread who truly knows what he is doing and sells genuine stuff? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by eleojo23: 2:28pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Mavor: You haven't provided enough info for anyone to use and make recommendations. There are basic things you need to state. What load do you want to power? List the appliances you want to use on the inverter and their power consumption (watts) How many hours do you want the inverter to pawer the load? Are you working with a budget? Let's start from there...there are many gurus here to help you once you provide this info. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Mavor: 2:53pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
eleojo23: Thanks for your feedback. Load -> 8 energy bulbs, 2 laptops, 1 50 inch flat screen, 1 sound system, 2 standing fans, 1 video game console. Dont know their rating. Are there inverters that carry medium sized fridge and air conditioners (1HP and 1.5HP)? Hours -> 14 - 18 hrs per day. Let me get the various options. Budget is undecided for now. Thanks. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by eleojo23: 4:03pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Mavor: Let's assume these are the ratings of your appliance. 8 energy bulb: 5w X 8 = 40w 2 Laptop = 45W x2 = 90w 1 50 inch flat screen : 70w Sound system 60w 2 standing fan: 90w 1 video console: 60w Approximate total power consumption = 400W If you will be using a 12v system, 5 pieces of 200ah batteries should give you about 14hrs of power per day if you run all appliances together at once. (Please try to get the exact rating of your appliances, check the back of the appliance or the power cord) The cost of batteries alone would be around 600k (approximately) For the fridge and AC, a 3kva inverter should work (@NiyiOmoIyunade and zeestone99 can guide you better on this and the cost of other components of your setup) |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Mavor: 4:10pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
eleojo23:Thanks for the feedback. I am looking at a budget of around 350k. Please why do I have to run all the appliances at once and is that a must? Are we talking about a solar system here for recharging and are there now efficient panels available? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by zeestone99(m): 4:38pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Mavor: With 340k budget, you will get 2 unit 200ah quanta batteries and a 1.5/1.7kva pure sine wave inverter, and installation. 1 Like

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by eleojo23: 4:45pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Mavor: It was just an assumption. I was considering extreme usage. Surely, you don't have to run everything at once. 350k should be able to get you something. |

zeestone99:Thanks for the feedback. The question is can it carry all my appliances for 14 - 18 hrs per day. Also how do I handle my fridge? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by zeestone99(m): 5:31pm On Sep 23, 2019 |

Good evening house, please anyone with any review on either or all these 5KVA/48V inverters: 1) Luminous 2) Sinergy 3) Safepower 4) Eastman Thanks... |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by SolnergyPower: 6:53pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Who imported second hand batteries? . The so called second hand was once new, so if you get a new one of the second hand, obviously, the new will be better. Most batteries referred to as second hand, are either telecoms companies used or a few other times banks used. The former is usually better. Original new batteries are quite expensive. The difference in cost between an original battery and an interior one can be up to 100k or even more. Abigai: |

zeestone99:according to the picture above.... please give details.... inverter is 1.5/1.7, two 200ah quanta, epsolar 30a Mppt controller ? solar panels ? Cables other accessories ? As per this budget! |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mctfopt: 9:32pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Demrich: Heck, there's no way you can add solar panels and charge controller to the mix and the price will still be at 340k |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by zeestone99(m): 10:49pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
Demrich: Solar is not included sir. Only inverter, batteries, rack, battery voltage display and installation. |

Mavor: This loop started as a sort of diy, advise, info/knowledge exchange forum before it got hijacked by sellers and installers. At the beginning of this loop, we are advised to start small. Seems people are now comfortable and have forgotten where they started. If the man says he has a budget of 340k and is given cost of inverter and batteries without panels, what will he use as source of power, generator or the erratic public grid? At the end his conclusion will be solar is s farce. I think he should be advised to forget about fridge and ac for now because of their huge power consumption. Give him cost of inverter, one 200ah battery, commensurate panels and pwm controller. When giving choice of inverter, keep in mind his planned use of ac and fridge so he won't have to buy "bigger" inverter later. Inadequate advise/knowledge from a friend is forcing me to change my inverter now. I am on 600watts panel(about 150K purchased from alaba), luminous 900vac ecovolt inverter(30k at the time via Konga, now worth about 50k+), 60a pwm controller(7k from Ali express), one 200ah mercury battery(90k from alaba) and 6awg dual core cable(30k from alaba). A local electrician did the installation for me while I did the rest via DIY with input from friends, this loop, you tube, internet and quora. I power my TV, decoder etc but don't use fridge on it for obvious reasons and I am doing fine. I have light 24/7 now as I posted some days ago. @mavor. I will suggest you go back and read this loop from 1 to about 100 first. Do your independent research, have an idea of what you want, weigh your options and then begin to solicit for advise. Without this basic things, I assure you you will regret going solar. I have been there and I know so. But I do not regret the road I passed. It was exhilarating and educative. If possible push your budget to 500k, if not, just cut your coat according to your cloth. With your 340k, you should be able to have 18 hours of light to power BASIC appliances if you meet honest people. My journey took me 5 years with lots of learning and frustrations on the way. I am almost there, that's the consolation. I need to state here that I am no guru, my advise is basically from my experience in this solar journey. You can go through my posts to find out my frustrations. And please don't contact me for anything outside advise, I do not sell anything nor do I have any link for materials outside aliexpress. There are so many honest, not so honest and outright dishonest sellers on this loop. I am just a struggling school teacher trying to make the best use of his meagre resources. These links will help. www.quora.com aliexpress YouTube. All the best 11 Likes |

Topmost11:Thanks for the detailed response. Unfortunately, no chance for me to read pages 1 - 100. How do you charge the batteries (on load and off load) apart from solar? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Topmost11(m): 12:43am On Sep 24, 2019 |
Mavor: I think you mean on grid and off grid. Charging without phcn is on grid while gen, solar wind etc is off grid basically. It needs a "bit" more explanation. Off grid: 1. Panels are connected to your battery via controller to charge it when there is sunlight. 2. Generator charges your battery via inverter. On grid: Phcn charges your battery via inverter. If you have an idea of what you are doing, an experienced local electrician can do the wiring for you. I did some searches and got this for you; Six 200watts panels(1200watts)=180000 Two 200ah battery (400ah)=180000 Luminous inverter 1.5kva/12v(hybrid)=76000 10mm cable/ metre=900( length depends on distance of your panels to controller. That's why I said you should push to 500K. But if money is a constraint, I will suggest three panels and one battery. Though experts say we should always strive to buy batteries together.is if its two batteries buy at once not one now and the other later. I shall post my DIY shortly 1 Like |

Mavor: Electrician did the wiring with directions from my friend that introduced me to solar. I have since done several modifications to arrive here. I need to repeat that I am a novice where solar is concerned. I only have basic knowledge, the gurus in the house can knock me and give you the technicals; I have only supplied the bones, they will supply the flesh

Mavor: The inverter I show does not need a controller, it is hybrid. But it is 24volts so it requires two batteries to work. Maybe you will use two 100ah batteries if you cant get two 200ah due to budget. I started with only one 100ah battery(thats what is in the left of pix i posted. The chat is my WhatsApp converse with my contact at alaba while arguing price of cable. I hope the screenshots won't get me banned sha. I am only helping not advertising. Should i get banned and unable to communicate, I wish you best of luck in your quest for power. 1 Like

Mavor: If you can push your budget to 500k and considering that you have future dream of powering your fridge and AC. I will suggest you put that into consideration: 1. 3Kva MPP solar hybrid inverter 3024 MSXE series - 220k 2. 4x 250w panels - 120k 3. 2 x 150ah batteries - 110k Remaining 50k should get accessories depending on distance from CC.
