This is because Islam differentiates blood relations from adopted relations.

The divorced wife of an adopted son can be married by the adopted father.
The divorced wife of the son can not marry the father.

An adopted child does not inherit from the adopted father like his sons. However the adopted father may decide to give him gift of properties before he dies.

It's actually quite a well known fact that cult leaders usually sleep with the wives of their followers. There's actually research that deals with this issue.

It actually makes a difference. You are not connected to your adopted son by blood. He can't bear your name. There is no case of sleeping with someone's wife here. It was simply a divorce. The way the Holy spirit leads people to lie to prove their point.
