That's good, others should learn because it's becoming a norm in government hospitals. Inexperienced doctors who are still doing their housemanship would be allowed to handle critical conditions, they'll start doing trial and error, gambling with someone's life. That's why I wanted to fight with one,at RSUTH when he kept giving big packs of fluids to my mum all in the name of drip...

In a nutshell once you have someone in any govt hospital, you need to be observant, watchful and on your toes..

FMC and General hospitals are the worst place you can go when in a critical condition. Their nurses are worst n their doctors engages in different jobs outside the hospital..

This is so sad, lack of accountability is one of the issues in the medical practice. Reading the report from the husband shows high negligence and lack of empathy from the medics in the hospital. The nurses can be worse, just wished they were also dealt with. I can't imagine what the family is going thru now, especially those little angels. May God give them fortitude to bear the pains.

This is long overdue in the health sector, I don't think this is new in the health sector, only that luck ran against this ones because the victim relations are educated and they know the right button to press.

I wrote on medical negligence as my final year project
If not that I was born in that hospital I'd have recommended that it be burnt down no i mean closed for thorough revamping
But what do I know sef, that hospital has turned out to be one of the best in Nigeria from my medical tourism to others in Nigeria
The matter I'm handling now saw the hospital pay half a million to the deceased's family over the maternal and infant mortality caused by their negligence cry sad
My only dealing with FMC Asaba so far has only been when I went to take my sister's corpse for burial!
Doctors
Hospital
Negligence
Nurses
Going scot-free
Hmmm yamayama embarassed

Negligence and misconduct attitude are some of d reasons some ppl don't wanna go to tertiary or gov hospitals in nija. Whereas doctors in private hospitals may not want a patient to die in their care, those of gov hospitals feel indifferent

The lackadaisical attitude of doctors and nurses and the negligence of their duty to ailing patients has taken so many lives that would have been saved. Someone has to account for this. Someone has to be held responsible. That's how they clinically murdered my friend's mother while another of my friend lost her dad at FMC the same year due to the carelessness of the doctors involved who are always on industrial action. I still remember the pain and tears they caused to my friends.

Most doctors don't even know what they are doing, that's the truth. I work in a hospital and I have facts for you, guess what? Hospital is simply business, your money is their number one priority, besides that when things go awry, they (most doctors) are as clueless as a common man!

Two doctors with the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, have appeared before the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria Tribunal, to answer charges of gross professional negligence.

The doctors, Iyiola Adewale and Adigba Onodjohwoyovwe, are accused of gross professional negligence which led to the death of a patient in their care.

The prosecuting counsel, Nasiru Aliyu, told the tribunal on Monday in Asaba that the defendants while on duty on March 7, 2017, negligently handled one of their patients, a pregnant woman, Mrs Rita Uchebuego, now late. According to the prosecutor, they allegedly failed to attend to her as appropriate for the management of her condition.

The deceased's husband, Mr Ngozi Uchebuego, an Asaba-based surveyor, alleged negligence by medical personnel at the hospital and called for the dismissal of the medical director and four other doctors.

While the death of the housewife raises some controversies, the hospital management, however, through the Acting Medical Director, Dr. Victor Osiatuma, has maintained that she died of blood transfusion reaction, denying claims of negligence. Read previous LIB report here

Aliyu said the offence is punishable under section 16 of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. Chairman of the tribunal, Prof. Abba Hassan, adjourned the case till Sept. 24, for address.

The tribunal was established for the trial of offences under the medical and dental practitioners act. This is the tribunal’s third session in 2019 and had already convicted some doctors during its second session for professional misconduct.

The cmd said she died of blood transfusion reactions.

Who was responsible for the typing and crossmatching of the blood administered. grin

Was there error in accessing her blood type or was their error in the labelling at the donor site.

Cmd go use style fling this thing to phlebotomists and nah so matter go die down grin

But still it was the duty of the person administering blood to monitor for atleast 10 mins most times nah 3mins to note any blood transfusion reactions.

It's reason why you dont wrote transfusion notes until after hanging grin

So you go dey around.

Hence negligence

The things some of these so called professionals do, especially in government establishments, is unpardonable. It's beyond negligence!!!

I had a friend who vowed to murder at least 3 medical doctors before the year was over. It took us serious counselling and words of advice before he calmed down and changed his mind. Hmmm.

We know welfare of health workers here is at an all time low (one of the poorest in the world), but that doesn't mean you play with people's lives... What exactly is the Hippocratic law for??!...

Maybe, we should start doing better background checks on individuals employed as healthcare providers.

If she actually died of blood transfusion reaction, death should be properly investigated. Blood transfusion is not really safe as widely believed. She might still be alive had been she refused blood transfusion.
