I think this is a win for buhari because he has just succeeded in intimidating anyone trying to oppose his tyrannic rule. He is playing his card well.

In many sense in Nigeria, they are the same....more so in this particular case, where the FG have no legs to stand regarding their allegations of treason.

FG just want to cage him and lock him away for as long as they can, their charges will not stick and they will be a laughing stock world wide, if they try to prosecute him for treasonable felony, when he was just protesting.

Remember they locked Kanu away for about 1.5 years, even the case against his alleged co-conspirators have stalled, so will the case of Sowore, the government will just sweep it under the carpet and move on.

I'm happy the people have spoken. That's the power of social media. Bravo SR, premium times, Objectv media, keeping it real with Deola, Maiyegun's diary Politico, Dr. Damages, worship media in Canada and the diehard Sowore' fans both home and abroad. Last but not the list senior advocate of Nigeria Mr. Falana and pressure from the international community. Thanks everyone for not giving into the intimidation. Hope the DSS have a sense of decency now.

Tobbydhayor90:
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has welcomed decision by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordering the immediate release of the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, from the custody of the Department of State Service as “a victory for the rule of law, human rights and judicial independence.”

In a statement, SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare said: “It's a huge relief that Sowore will be freed and can finally return to his family and journalism work. He should never have been detained in the first place. The Nigerian authorities should now withdraw all the charges against him and allow freedom of expression and media freedom to flourish. It’s good for everyone.”

SERAP said: “The Nigerian authorities now have to fully comply with this ruling by immediately releasing Sowore. The decision is a timely reminder of Nigeria’s constitutional and international obligations to protect journalists, activists and Nigerians in general, and to put a stop to its current practice of restricting the civic space.”

The statement read in part: “We hope this decision will make the Nigerian authorities and state governors stop and reflect on their ongoing crackdown on freedom of expression and media freedom including online, and also help to put an end to other human rights violations of journalists and citizens in general. Other journalists like Agba Jalingo and Ekanem Ekpo currently being detained, must be immediately and unconditionally released.”

“If a court found it possible to release Sowore, we are sure that all the circumstances were studied, and an objective decision was made.”

It would be recalled that SERAP had on Saturday has sent an open letter to Mr Abukabar Malami, SAN, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, urging him to use his position “to without delay enter a nolle prosequi and discontinue the prosecution of the Convener of ‘RevolutionNow’ protest and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore, and Olawale Bakare, also known as Mandate for apparently politically motivated charges of treason, fraud and ‘insulting President Muhammadu Buhari’.”

SERAP said: “We urge you to use your role as a trustee of the public interest under section 174 of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 (as amended) to end several of similar trumped-up cases going on in several states.”

SERAP’s letter read in part: “Sowore’s case and several similar cases instigated/brought by state governors make a hideous mockery of Nigeria’s criminal justice systems, rule of law, freedom of expression and media freedom. These cases are persecution and not prosecution. As guardian of the public interest, you have a role to end this travesty now, and to maintain the sanctity and integrity of Nigeria’s justice system.”

“These cases set a dangerous precedent for the misuse and subversion of the justice system, which may lead to the politicization of judiciary. This will be bad for everyone—ordinary citizens, journalists and even the politicians in power, as they may themselves become targets of these repressive and abusive tactics when they are out of power/in opposition.”

Yea....! Sowore is out!
Sowore show us your commitment to this revolution struggle. Don't let it die lik that o.. It's not if u come out now, u will not talk about revolution again.
Pls show us your commitment to this revolution struggle by starting it again now that u have been freed from jail.
U saw d way ipob leader came out from prison and was still talking about biafra...he did not allow it die out. So pls continue d same way with revolution, do not allow it die out jus like that...because he you do, that means u are not committed to your own revolution struggle that u started in d first place.

So I only have a question for sowore: if he does not continue this revolution struggle once he comes out, that means they must have bribed him in there which means that he is not and was never even committed to that struggle in d first place. What was d essence of gathering people for revolution to come and be tear gased in d face if u knew u weren't fully committed to this struggle...if u knew that after being arrested, u won't continue it again.
For those that were tear gases in d face, u owe it to them to continue this revolution now that u are out of jail... because there are people supporting u and went through trauma because of this struggle....So u owe it to them to continue d revolution now that u re finally out.

If u don't continue it once u are out or rather now that u re out of detention, then that means it's either u were never fully committed to your revolution struggle in d first place....or that u were, but now have been bribed by d federal government to stop it.

So my question to u once u don't pick up this revolution agitation now that u re out wud be: Why were u leading nigerians astray in d first place if u were never committed to d revolution struggle? undecided embarassed cry

There is nothing to celebrate. He should not have been locked up in the first place. They knew what he was about and whatever charges brought against him were mere threat to frighten and silent any form of opposition.

This government is oppressive and dont what anyone to challenge them. Buhari is more focused on protecting his presidency than uplifting the lives of Nigerians. They have sent the message already, which is FEAR.

They want us all to be afraid to ever raise our voices against their government. APC is going nowhere 2023. They a bunch of desperados who are capable of doing anything to hold on to power.

But the truth remains that, the real power belongs to the people. The moment we all stand up and say enough is enough, the revolution will began.
