FMC and General hospitals are the worst place you can go when in a critical condition. Their nurses are worst n their doctors engages in different jobs outside the hospital..

Yes! The doctor treating me had another gig at the teaching hospital...how is it possible...?

That means they don't even pay them enough money..

All you said is true...

But here in Nigeria...and I say this as someone who is actually working in the health sector....many Nigerians don't pay outstanding hospital bills.

This makes it diffiuclt for hosptials to spend money buying things like consumables, equipment, etc...which could be used to save other crtical patients.

In other words...debts owed by patients makes care delivery more difficult.

Using a case from a hospital where I worked.....I was once working in the emergency peadatric unit of a hospital. Payment polices were strict. Because over the years many patients had absconded without paying. THis left the hospital in financial trobules.

I guess we could argue that Government could make health care free. But our health budget is less than $3billion for a population of 200million (Spain spends about 100billion for a population of 40million). Maybe we should increase taxes. Maybe we should spend all the money we reconvered ..and forget about needs in educaiton, transport, etc...and so on.

And the same issue happens in developed countries. Once saw a report about a poor man in the US who had been stopped from recieving free care in the emergency unit of a US hospital. The hospital's response....we have adebt of $200million from treating patients for free like that poor man. At some time we have to say...no more.

I saw what you wrote about what happened to your friend. It's sad...and yes, it was wrong. But...isn't it wrong when patient dies...because hospital could not get crtical material due to too many patients defaulting on their bills?

See the problem.?

Thanks for your analysis. People think health sector must be functioning well when all aspects of out nation life is collapsing. health sector is not immune to problems facing the country.

Really? You think other professionals don't deal with lives or people's lives have not been lost because of their negligence too? The only reason why medical personnel are at the forefront is because they deal directly with live and death.
The mechanical engineer that does fake job on a car, the electrical engineer that does bad electrical wirings, the civil engineers that construct bad roads, the banker that fails to attend to an customer who needs money to pay in the hospital, the building contractor that uses fake building materials that leads to collapsed buildings and loss of lives... ....... They are all killing people too.
Let's search ourselves deeply and let he who hath no sin cast the first stone.
If those doctors are actually wrong, I hope justice prevails but if they are not guilty, may they be saved.

If she actually died of blood transfusion reaction, death should be properly investigated. Blood transfusion is not really safe as widely believed. She might still be alive had been she refused blood transfusion.

But how...? She needed blood and looks like they mixed up the type or didn't screen it properly. How could she get out alive without a transfusion

Haaa it's the system you should blame nah.

You want doctors to treat for free

They were probably tired of people promising and failing to pay back so they stood their ground on-the man's baby.shame

other non-health professionals can treat others including health wotkers unfairly but health workers must treat others fairly at all cost?

Everything still lead to the hospital..

People will get injured and come to the hospital for care... Health workers need to understand their role in the society! ! !

When that NYSC boy was shot in Abuja while he covered an incidence with the Channels TV crew, he still had to be rushed to a hospital..
Channels did not give him shields or give him any kind of protection.. That should be Channel TV's fault right?? Guess what, the father believed that his death could be averted if a particular doctor is around...

Families will always hold health workers responsible... Life and death matter here is different from all the ones you highlighted..

And even if any hazards come from all these professions, Health workers will still be the one to intervene... And it is expected that they try their best!!

anybody that is transfused with just 1 pint of blood does not actually need blood. my point is that blood can only be given if benefits outweigh the risks. practice of blood transfusion is being abused nationwide. I feel heamatologists should veto use of blood in any centre

Ok oh. But it's common for a lady who just gave birth to need more blood since she may be haemorrhaging.

I agree with you that there is some tomfoolery happening at the blood banks though

This is one of the reason I didn't want to be a doctor. People's lives are at your hands! Except God be with you, you cannot do well as a doctor

finally there should be a law that gives doctors the right not to see patients they don't feel like seeing.
this should fix this negligence issue.

on the man And his wife part
How can someone in their right senses come to a hospital without 5 thousand naira at hand to run tests or post partum drugs. Asin The husband didn't have the foresight to drop cash for his newly wed in case of needs that may arise in his absence for his twin babies.
Dey now had to call him in the middle of the night. Imagine

Yeah you have a point there.

At what point do you start transfusing?
For a pregnant woman pcv must be buffed up to 30% does not mean she can't bleed torrentially during birth or slump into shock.

If dey abolish transfusions is it your urine dey will now use as second line for resuscitation?

unless in postpartum haemorrhage I do not think pregnant women should be routinely given blood after delivery

The same blood she was reacting to can be washed and handed back to her so your point is not valid

where do you see 'abolish'? administering blood without justification is medical fallacy. Most private hospitals should not be rendering blood transfusion service.

Even if the cause of death was blood transfusion reaction, you're taught how to manage such cases,so,that's no point of defence.

Good you know that..let's vote for another party in 2023 that isn't PDP or APC, and that will guarantee true federalisim, fiscal discipline and the right of secession...

And if no such party exists, form your own, and work for victory.

Stop groaning. You are right...but people have said what you are saying since the 1970's...and even earlier.
and who will be that party's candidate that has not yet been soiled by this or past governments?

That's where you come in.

You can be the candidate.

Democracy is hard work. If you want change, you better be prepared to do the hard work. Or you can be an armchair critic, like me and many others. Comfortable...but in the end does nothing for the greater good.

U are jndirectly saying health workers are there to clean up all other people's mess even even when the circumstances do not allow them to? Why don't the other people sit up so as to reduce the pressure on health workers too? Maybe if everybody starts working and carrying out their responsibilities, things will get better.

Stop waving this oath like a flag, it's a decision to help not to be blamed for all society's atrocities... Even relations that are guilty of negligence and neglect come to the hospitals and try to pin them on doctors.
The guy made a valid point, the society's sick ... Corruption, funding for healthcare, violence, neglect and a clueless illiterate population that thinks medical supplies fall from heaven of that government pays for everything. Everyone better start thinking health insurance or this kind of tales will be plenty in the future.
Everyone in society needs to be held accountable... People are killed by actions remote from hospitals like embezzlement, bad roads, police rascality etc
And every job requires dedication and many swear oaths but still abuse it eg police
The doctors are not from Mars in the end, they are Nigerians
