The Nigerian army has shut down the offices of Mercy Corps, an international non-governmental organisation that operates in Borno and Yobe. This is coming five days after the army shut down the office of Action Against Hunger (AAH) in Damaturu, Yobe state capital, over allegations of providing aid to Boko Haram. “Mercy Corps is suspending operations in Borno and Yobe States, Nigeria, following the closure of four of our field offices by the Nigerian military,” the NGO said in a statement. A source who also confirmed the incident to TheCable said the army has not given any reason for its action but that the closure may be connected to the “belief that some NGOs sponsor the insurgents”. According to the source, the problem started when the army intercepted a vehicle conveying some contractors who were on their way to purchase items for internally-displaced persons (IDPs) on behalf of Mercy Corps. “One of their workers (Mercy Corps) called me this morning that the army has shut down their offices,” he said. “Based on my findings, there are some contractors that supply Mercy Corps with items that they supply to IDPs. So they have paid the people to continue with their supplies to IDPs in Damboa, and they went to Adamawa state to cash the money sent, so that they can continue their purchase in the market. “On their way, along Damboa, military intercepted their bus. The military asked them what they had in the vehicle …they also saw a cylinder in the vehicle, the one used by welders…. So they asked them why they had the cylinder and they replied that it belongs to a man in Damboa. “The military then searched the vehicle and as they were searching, they saw the cash, which was about N29million and they asked them how they had such an amount of money. They replied that they are contractors; normally every month when they pay them, they cash the money, put it inside cartons and go to market to get the supplies for Mercy Corps give to IDPs. “But the military did not agree to what they had said. They said such an amount of money being conveyed without escorts, that they don’t believe them. “They also had sticks belonging to the battalion in Damboa, and the driver of the vehicle also had ATM cards of some soldiers with him. Some of the soldiers don’t travel. So they give their ATM to the drivers to withdraw cash for them. He showed these to the army so that they would believe them, “But the impression the army now has is that anybody working with NGO, they think they are sponsors of Boko Haram which is not so.” https://www.thecable.ng/army-shuts-down-mercy-corps-offices-in-north-east/amp 1 Like 1 Share

There can never be Fire without a spark. Why moving with such a huge fund when there are other safe ways instead of lodging it in a car. Most terrorists and launderers can hide under a NGO. Eve scammers use them to channel their cause. 24 Likes 2 Shares |

This is true; I support the move. #NoToBHTSympatizers These NGO are providing aid to Boko Haram Members. According to a source I would not mention; working with one of the NGO in the SE IDP camp. They said these BHT basterds will come into the camp at night to eat food, have sex with their wives then return back to the bush. They also reveal that the wives of these bastard BHTs behave arrogantly within the camp knowing well that their blood-sucking killer could do anything. On the part of the NGO workers, they cannot anything that will risk their lives. Don't ask me how I know what I know; if you know, you know. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Stop breeding children like rat. Send your children to school to learn and become somebody in life and teach them to love their fellow humans. If you do these the end result is that bokoharam will die a natural death. 16 Likes 1 Share |

If the activities of NGO's can be stop in the Northeast, it will curb the menace of boko haram. People in the Northeast seize the opportunity for more employability and enrich themselves. the bitter truth is, boko haram will not stop until international communities stop funding the IDP's camp. people cannot be killing themselves and you are still feeding and paying them. 2 Likes |

The army has a point. Some reports have said the proliferation of NGOs in the North East is part of what is sustaining the boko haram war. 2 Likes |

Bad day for NGOs in Buharis Nigeria , while Boko Haram is executing their members Buhari govt is also persecuting them ..But this 29 million naira cash found with a mercy Corp vendor and gas cylinder is very suspect and smells like funding for something sinister. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Whatever you're thinking about NGO, military, government and other agency that's involve in the boko haram shii, I assure you they are all in it for the money. War is profitable at the expense of low value human life that will be lost during it. This has been happening since the beginning of time in human race. FarahAideed: Our Army are scared of confronting these guys in the bush. They are just hunting we Humanitarians to show to the world they are working. If Bokoharam needs food they will walk into Local Governments to get it or lay ambush. How can a driver who helps Army withdraw cash with ATMs supply food to Bokoharam. Most military men here give transporters they trust to help them withdraw 3 Likes |

FarahAideed: Lol there is particular location Bokoharam attacked killed some Soldiers and took away 4 Army Hilux and two Police Hilux. In that same attack they carted away foods belonging to an NGO sold through a vendor, but the Army blamed the NGO for allowing such amount of food in that location. But the Army did not blame itself for giftingHilux to Bokoharam 5 Likes |
