Akwa Ibom State Government on Wednesday said it would pull out of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company as soon as it establishes it own electricity transmission company.

Governor Udom Emmanuel stated this at a press conference in Uyo.

He said the state had invested so much in PHED by building sub-power stations, injection stations and providing other electricity facilities without getting a commensurate value in terms of power supply.

Emmanuel accused the Federal Government of not paying the state for the power it was generating and supplying to the national grid, adding that the Ibom Power Company had been supplying 115 megawatts of power to the national grid.

The governor said, “Akwa Ibom State is one state that has invested in power than even what the Federal Government has put into any state. There are some areas in the state that we generate electricity that can go round everybody.

“We generate 115 megawatts and the Federal Government is not even paying us for what we are giving to the national grid. It does not make sense. I told Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo when he came here that we are going to do something drastic about it.

“We are going to check how to do our transmission and we are going to set up our own transmission company. I pay a lot of money generating power, we have enough electricity but PHED just decides not to give us light.

“When I ask, they tell me a lot of people in the villages are not paying for electricity. What about the assets I provide? I have not even been given credit for that. I invest so much and I get so little.”

The only way to solve that is to get our own transmission company and get ourselves out of PHED. We are working seriously on that.”

Good thinking from a reasonable governor.
Udom don't worry, only God will do it for you.

When you spend on transmission and are unable to collect revenues from consumers, you will still stop generating.

Revenue is key to sustainability. The Discos have to sell to paying consumers. This is the same problem Bayelsa is facing. Consumers think they should not pay for power supply.

Parasites will do everything to frustrate you, this is Nigeria where we want peace without Justice. In Nigeria everyone seek self interest after that tribal interest

Sometimes I wonder if Nigerians use their brains . Even 115 Mega wattz is not enough to produce uninterrupted power for the entire Akwa ibom with population of 5 million . Akwa ibom needs $5 billion dollars to have uninterrupted power. Akwa ibom receives only $60 million per month or $750 million dollars per year from the Nigerian State .

Toronto Canada metropolis which is about the same landmass and population as Akwa ibom runs on 16,000 Mega wattz . Nigeria runs on only 2500 mega wattz . That means Toronto city has more power than all of Nigeria.
Akwa ibom's 115 mega wattz can only give constant power to a small neighborhood
if 2500MW can go round Nigerian that means 115MW can serve akwaibom more than the share they are getting from national grid.

Only 48 percent of Nigeria is currently powered or connected to the grid, and that power is unstable. That's why there's frequent blackouts . This means most places in Nigeria do not have electricity at all .
All the answer you need is in my previous post . Sorry I can't help you if you lack comprehension.

Do you know why Singapore,UAE and Qatar are so wealthy and developed ? I'll tell you why and i'll also tell you why Nigeria will not develop anytime soon.

Firstly, Singapore landmass is the same size as ( Uyo local government and Okobo Local Government ). Singapore has population of 5 million.
UAE landmass is the same as River State,Akwa ibom state and cross river state combined . UAE has a population of 9 million
Qatar landmass is the same size as Akwa Ibom landmass . Qatar has a population of 2 Million .

Akwa ibom has a population of 4 or 5 million . Akwa Ibom generates $1.2 billion dollars per month or $15 billion dollars per year from oil alone . but due to Nigeria's outdated unitary system,Akwa Ibom has to share the money with Nigeria ,and Akwa Ibom ends up of receiving a sum of $60 million dollars per month or $750 million per year from Big Brother Nigeria . If Nigeria restructures into a modern system of autonomy then Akwa ibom would have control of it's wealth, then infrastructure would be a walk in the park and there would be more than enough for the Akwa ibom citizens receive free money from the government.

below are estimated cost of infrastructures

$10 billion dollars would pave all roads in Akwa ibom including sidewalks ,traffics signs, markings ,drainage and bicycle paths .

$5 Billion dollars would give Akwa ibom constant electricity
A world class international airport cost $1 billion dollars
A World class international seaport cost $1 billion dollars
A world class University cost $500 million dollars to build
A world class hospital cost $500 million dollars to build
A world class international Mega mall cost 500 million dollars to build
mass housing development for 4 million people would cost around $25 billion dollars
A 100 storey skyscraper cost $1 billion dollars / A 30 storey high rise cost 250 million
A transit system which includes buses , highspeed train / subway system linking the entire Akwaibom including calabar would cost $10 Billion dollars .

All of the above amounts to $55 billion dollars. this means Akwa ibom needs at least $30 billion dollars to even dream of being a developed city or state .

None of the above are possible due to Nigeria's yearly oil revenue of $35 Billion dollars being dispersed to 100s of cities ,towns and villages and local governments and it becomes insignificant. As a whole ,Nigeria is a poor country ,and with only $35 billion dollars per year there's only so much you can do with population of 180 million. The money available can only pay government workers ,build a few mediocre roads and projects and keep the economy afloat.

Thats exactly my point but there is a simple way out

Our budget to GDP ratio is around 7% ..most developed country have it at 30 to 35

So if we have a good taxing system ...generating 150 billion dollars is an easy feat
