Aba to Uyo journey: I entered bus in Aba by 7am going to uyo. It drove on Ikot ekpene road in Aba via the following villages/towns in Abia: obingwa LGA wherein I saw the following villages in obingwa LGA: Alaoji ukpakiri ohanze umuibe At umuibe, the bus left the highway and entered an untarred village road by the right. It is because a portion of the Aba-Ikot ekpene highway is so bad that motors must divert and pass through the village road. It took us deep into the following villages: umudosi umuokeny umuiroma okealangwa we spent more than an hour in these interior villages, before we came out again on the highway at Nlagu. Then we reached the boundary between Abia and Akwa ibom states. There is a military check point on this boundary. |

After the check point,we entered Akwa ibom state and drove via the following villages/towns in Akwa ibom: Essien udim LGA wherein I saw the following: Ikot Ineme odoro ikot ukana ukana odoro ikot Nsasak afaha Ikot ukpong etor Essien ukana We then entered Ikot ekpene LGA To us from Ikot ekpene LGA,the real name of the LGA is Ikot apene which means "The bush of cassava". Ikot means 3 things namely: (1) People, Ikot Abasi(The people of GOD) (2) Descendant Ikot Otu(The descendant of Otu) (3) Bush Ikot ekpene(The bush of cassava or cassava bush) 1 Like |

Total transport fare? Did you compare flying to going by road? |
Re: Narrative Of A Journey From Sokoto To Akwa Ibom by beauty7: 9:03pm On Sep 10, 2019 |
NotGej:Sokoto to Gusau N1200 Gusau to kaduna N1300 Kaduna to Abuja N800 Abuja to Onitsha N5100 Onitsha to Aba N1500 Aba to Akwa Ibom N1200 Total amount of transport=N11,100 This amount excludes the money spent on taxi, keke and bikes in Gusau, kaduna,Abuja,Onitsha,Aba, etc. It equally excludes the money spent to book a hotel in Zuba town of Abuja. I booked the cheapest room in the hotel at N2500 for a night. Very cheap it was! The hotel is called "Anoga Guest House" in Zuba town. At Aba,I spent the night at a waiting room of one luxurious company park. Talking about the prize of flying as compared to that of bus,you know there is no direct flight from Sokoto to Akwa Ibom. There is Sokoto to Abuja although. As for Abuja to uyo,I don't know whether they fly everyday. I know flying is a bit expensive. I travel on the road to see things. Next time I will travel by air. That is my plan |

beauty7:u say ikot ekpene means bush of cassava. what does uyo mean? |
Re: Narrative Of A Journey From Sokoto To Akwa Ibom by beauty7: 7:59pm On Sep 26, 2019 |
handsomebeauty8:You know ogbono seed that is used to prepare ogbono soup(ie draw soup). That ogbono seed is the seed of a specie of mango fruit called uyo in ibibio language. In the time past, the area currently called Uyo(Akwa ibom state capital) was a forest of this mango specie called uyo. Any time people were going to harvest these fruits from this area, they would say 'We are going uyo'. That is, 'We are going for the fruit uyo'. That is why this area later become known as Uyo. So uyo is a specie of mango, the seed of which is the ogbono seed used to prepare draw soup. Same thing goes for Ikot ekpene. In the time past,it was a bush of cassava plant. In fact, all local governments in Akwa ibom state have meanings to their names. For example, Mkpat Enin means the 'feet of elephant' Several areas in Akwa ibom state have meanings. For example, the following towns in Ikot ekpene LGA: Ikot abia idem means the 'descendant of the doctor of body' Abia akpo means the 'doctor of bone'. Ikot obong edong means the 'descendant of the lord of sheep'. And etc 3 Likes 1 Share |

Oh no! I wish I saw this thread earlier. You can actually get a straight luxurious bus from Sokoto to Aba.I came into Uyo from Gusau in August and I used Luxurious bus. The bus usually load from Sokoto, then pick the remaining passengers at Gusau central park. Price is around 6k. So, from Aba to Uyo take a bus at AKTC park around 900-1200 or more depending on your bag. You could also get Aktc straight to Uyo from Onitcha, it's usually super fast to go through Onitcha cos most times the luxurious bus will spoil before you reach Aba. I am impressed with the way you got the names of those towns especially the ones in Akwaibom where you passed at night. I am your direct opposite. I pretend to sleep, then I fall asleep for real just to pass time. I'm always like let's reach already while swearing it will be the last time I will try such journey, next time I will book flight early for lower rate, bla bla Lol!. Then I check my pocket and I close eyes and just go by road again.I give it to you, you made the experience sound like fun!!! beauty7: |

Thank you very much. Although i knew that there was a direct bus from Sokoto to Aba, I decided to travel piecemeal, not least because I wanted to rest in Abuja and also made enquiries concerning my brother's NYSC certificate. Janewrites: |

'By and by' according to dictionary means 'soon'. Remember the song that says: 'by and by when the morning comes. When the saints shall be gathered at rest. We will tell the story how we overcome. We will understand it better by and by. That 'by and by' in the song means 'soon'. What i am saying is that i will post the pictures soon. Not that I don't have the wherewithal to buy a solid phone to snap and post pictures therewith. I have the means, but since I am expecting Npower to give us devices, I believe that buying any such phone now would be something of a waste. I believe we would soon be given our devices wherewith I would be snapping and posting pictures of Akwa Ibom and Uyo. Thank you Ma for following the thread. agnes7: |

It is usual for these luxurious bus companies to do things like this. During this Christmas, many igbo people living in the north and the west of Nigeria will be going to visit home. Most times, the buses will not reach the final destination. They will break down on the way. Because of the vast number of people traveling, the companies will bring out all their old worn out buses, paint the buses to make them look new and then carry passengers. Those buses will then break down on the way. I have experienced this countless number of times. beauty7: |

Today I went to Nwaniba village in Uruan local government area of Akwa Ibom state. I took pictures of Usuk river in Nwaniba Uruan. This side is normally referred to as Ifiayong Usuk. It is in Nwaniba village. According to my grand mother, during the Nigeria Biafra war when she fled from Ikot ekpene, her child died at itam junction when bullet entered his head. After burying her child at itam junction, she and other women ran to Ifiayong Usuk and boarded one of these canoes on this river which took them to Cross river state. That was in the 1960s during the war. Below is the river: 1 Like
