crushsugar: Have you had a change in orientation, about so - called quacks (the popular term for HCA's) in Nigeria? In your recent role, are this quacks useless, helpful and part of the nursing team? |

moboladek: It's cold now so come with protective clothing. If you like original food like me, you can bring some. You'll get African food stuffs here but it's a little different to me. My employer provided welcome pack. It was enough for a week thereabout. Spaghetti, plum, vegetable oil, tuna, tea and coffee, milk, margarine... 2 Likes |

Lexusgs430: Everyone has their roles here, no one is allowed to do what his /job description does not state. Quackery is a crime against humanity and it has put lots of lives at risk. HCAs have their training here and they do only the they are trained for. In Nigeria quackery is quackery let's not paint it, if they function within their limits I can understand not parading themselves claiming titles that have not been earned and doing things without any scientific backing. The right training matters. If you leave that country, you would see how the rest of the world has gone so far and it will make you question yourself and weep for all the things you have lost. I am not insinuating that it is perfect here but we have so much to learn. 11 Likes 1 Share |

crushsugar: But the so called quackery in Nigeria, is caused by employers not obeying legislation + lack of government engagement, and willingness to enforce legislation. My question was not about quakery, but the roles of HCA's in a sane society........... |

Hello guys, By the end of this month, it will be 4months since I arrived UK. Preparing to bring my husband here. It's been inspiring, learning everyday is my motivation. My work team have been supportive and have listening ears. During the week, I got a little hard on myself thinking I am not doing well but I had a darling colleague who saw that I wasn't ok and she made me talk, she reassured me and I was happy to know that they were very pleased with me plus the hug she gave me, trust me it meant a lot. I get emotional sometimes about the things I am yet to understand but I just remind myself that this is the reason why I am here in the first place ; to see how it is done in developed societies. My ward manager is there always asking if I need anything or help and she is always ready to help and listen. This does not mean I have not met colleagues whom I don't like to work with. It can never be perfect. Looking forward to my leave later in the month . 38 Likes |

Hello, @CrushSugar Thank you for this beautiful thread. Its really expository. I must confess that I didn't really like the UK b4 due to stories of their tax policies & Stinginess as a people. But your experience(s) is trying to change that. Ques; 1. I know an Auxiliary nurse ( 2yrs training) who wants to further her education. Where would you advice her to go between the University & School of health tech. 2. When you applied for your job did you present An NYSC cert??. 3. Do you think your job experience gave you an advantage in getting the work.? By the way, I am still an Undergraduate in a medical field(Not nursing though)... and I hope to channel my energy outside of 9ja someday... when the time is come. 3 Likes |

Igbasonproff1:1. If you meant studies in Nursing, it is either done in school/college of nursing or university. I recommend university for anyone. 2. I didn't serve. They don't require nysc either. 3. These days they don't place so much priority on work experience. Just make sure you have your documents ready. Then use clinical postings as experience. I might not know what you are studying but I believe you can get anything you want from life God willing. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

@crushsugar....please I need your advice,I read human anatomy 7years ago,I'm thinking of going for nursing since human anatomy hasn't given me any job since I graduated.... I heard its better to go to university than school of nursing. Please ma is nursing a flexible course, that can allow me time to go to work or should I go to an open university?? Going by my age 31,is it advisable to go for nursing or should I just go for masters in any health related course? 1 Like |

@crushsugar did you travel with any food stuff? If yes, how did you cope with immigration? |
Re: Adventures Of A UK Bound Nurse by crushsugar: 1:30am On Oct 21, 2019 |
EbonyCy:I personally advise people to go to the university to study nursing. If you are very conscious about your academic profession, going through school of nursing might slow you down in Nigeria. Nursing is not flexible. It is full time.the only people who tend to have flexible programs are those who have gone through school of nursing and they are trying to get their bsc in Nursing. Age is no barrier, it is not new to have people who have done degrees in other courses come to start nursing afresh. As for the masters, it depends on you. If you still want to thread as in the field of anatomy or start all over again in nursing. One of the requirements of open university is that you already qualified from a school of Nursing. 10 Likes |

EbonyCy: You could start your BNSC from Noun. Infact, you can start from 200lvl and spend just 4years. The entrance requirement into Noun's Nursing program is either a RN/RM or a Bachelor's degree in any if the health/biological/life sciences. |
