Roberto Carlos Warns Brazil About The Pace Of Chukwueze, Osimhen and Kalu Ahead Of Next Month Friendly

Brazil legend Roberto Carlos says the Nigerian trio of Samuel Chukwueze, Samuel Kalu and Victor Osimhen will no doubt trouble the defence of Brazil when they take on Nigeria in an international friendly next month in Singapore.

Carlos was speaking as a guest on a television programme monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com where the 2-2 friendly draw Nigeria had with Ukraine was played as part of the show which was a preview to the Nigerian game.

Osimhen, Kalu and Chukwueze troubled the defence of Ukraine with their non stop running, skills and strength, something that Carlos said Brazil must be wary about when they play Nigeria on the 13th of September.

” The three forward players move real quick with strength and skills. Defenders don’t like playing against them but when you’re faced with them you just have to cope. I think that’s the strength of the Nigerian team”, Carlos said.

He however said he is confident that Brazil will triumph because they have players in attack who are now playing some of their best football in Europe, which he believe the defence of Nigeria won’t be able to handle.

Now Aubameyang is always a goal scorer no matter the league. He's one of those strikers that will always give you goals , no matter the league or the style of play. He's not a knowledge soaker that needs to play in a particular type of set up or style to score

Like our current academic system, it’s now trendy to see a governor/minister or some rich Nigerian in far away Uk or USA celebrating their children’s graduation, we have all abandoned our league to celebrate football talents of Nigeria descent born abroad and products of foreign football academies.

It is a very dangerous precedent. Nigeria has enough talent waiting to be harnessed, nurtured and developed. If we keep neglecting the league, what happened against Togo will be a child’s play.
Poaching foreign based talents will be counterproductive if actions are not taken now.
The wrong signals are being sent to the local talents in the league with the attention and aggressive nature that overseas players are approached and lobbied.

This is one of the reasons players move abroad after a short exposure in the league or continental engagement. Talents like Nwobodo, Ekiho Ehiosun, Sunday Mbah have all disappeared off the radar after some promising stints in the local league.

The stock of Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, continues to rise in Ligue 1 despite just joining Lille last summer for the departed Nicolas Pepe, who moved to Arsenal.



The forward has only played eight games for the Les Dogues in the league but he is already becoming a fans favourite after helping the club to fourth on the log with six goals and two assists in seven games, a record only bettered by Paris Saint Germain player, Neymar and another former PSG player Zlatan Ibrahim since 2006/07 season.

According to Opta, a football statistics website, Neymar tops the ranking of players with goals scored and chances created in their first seven games with 11, closely followed by Ibrahimovic, who was involved directly in goals for PSG with 10.



The 20-year-old opened his scoring account for the French outfit in their first game of the season against Nantes, where he grabbed a brace to help them secure a 2-1 win. He got another brace in Lille’s 3 – 0 against St-Etienne.

He added to that tally with another goal and an assist in the game against Anger which they won 2-1 before netting again against Strasbourg.

His last contribution to the club’s goal was in the game against Nice which ended 1-1.

Osimhen is current joint highest goal scorer in the league with six goals alongside Habib Diallo of Metz from Senegal, Moussa Dembélé who plays for Lyon.

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, believes Samuel Kalu will be one of the important players for his side, in next month’s international friendly against Brazil.

Rohr watched the winger at close quarters, as Bordeaux were defeated 1-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 on Saturday and was not satisfied with his performance.

Stats don't tell you the complete picture they are indicative but not conclusive.

Fot instance in a weak team that will often Park the bus in a defensive stance against a much stronger offensive team.

You will find thier defenders will have more interceptions , blocks and tackles than the offensive team. Meanwhile the offensive team was expending energy and effort attacking.

I am sure you have seen games where one team had 28 shots on goal and the other team just 2/3. With the defensive team having all the stats for defensive actions.

For example do you know that Sol Bamba Cardiff city had better defensive stats than Virgil Van Duke. Is he Bamba therefore better than Van Dyke❓ So you see its not just about stats but overall influence and impact on the game.

According to the Premier League’s official website, Ndidi has made 32 successful tackles this season one more than his closest rival and club teammate, Ricardo Pereira.

He has also completed 299 passes, made 420 touches and conceded nine fouls.

While Mikel Obi on the other hand was solid as rock during his days at Chelsea, A twitter user has dared everyone by suggesting that Ndidi is a far better player than captain John Mikel Obi!!!

Let us address this.

The national team is for the best Nigerian players. Inviting a local player to the national team does not improve grassroots football.

To improve grassroots football, we need to focus on improving the league AND the club structures. The clubs themselves need to be more professional. Improve the standard of coaches employed in the league. You will not achieve this by inviting poor players to the super eagles.

North African countries have some of the best leagues in Africa but they still get their best players from Europe.

Improving the local league does not mean local players will make the national team. We need to get it up to a top standard for that to happen. It will however improve the lives of players in Nigeria and open up opportunities for them to go to better teams abroad.

The success of our basketball team is simply because we got the best NBA players available. No matter how we improve our local basketball league, it will take decades to catch up with the NBA.

If we want our super eagles to be able to compete with the best, we must try to get the best eligible Nigerian players. Sentiments will not help us produce a solid team.
