NAF GETS FIRST EVER FEMALE AIR WARRANT OFFICER AS CAS APPROVES PROMOTION OF MWO GRACE GARBA

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has approved the promotion of Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Grace Tabawa Garba to the exalted rank of Air Warrant Officer (AWO). With the promotion, MWO Garba becomes the first female Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) to be promoted to the highest rank in the Non-Commissioned Officers’ cadre in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The SNCO, who has put in not less than 33 years of outstanding meritorious service to the Nation, was found worthy to be promoted to the rank of AWO for her exemplary leadership qualities, hard work as well as her contributions to the Service over the years.

The promotion demonstrates the commitment of the current NAF leadership in paying adequate attention to the empowerment of female personnel to realize their full potentials. It would be recalled that one of the NAF's female officers was sent to the United States of America for training to become the first female fighter pilot in the history of the NAF. Similarly, for the first time in NAF history, another female pilot is on the verge of completing training to become the first female helicopter pilot in the Service. It is expected that the promotion of MWO Garba to AWO would serve as a motivation and spur other airwomen in the Service to strive for excellence and aspire for such rare elevation.

Born on 14 February 1966 in Garkida, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, MWO Grace Garba joined the NAF in 1986 as a member of Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 10. She holds a Certificate in Nursing from School of Nursing, Maiduguri, Certificate in Midwifery from Amhadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria Kaduna State, Certificate in Public Health Nursing from School of Health Technology, Kaduna and Advanced Diploma in Public Administration at the Federal University of Technology, Yola. She is currently the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the NAF School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM), Kaduna. She will be decorated with the new rank on 15 October 2019.

Ok, folks, it's that time of the year when we ask for the whereabouts of our JF17's. What happen to all the talk of third quarter of the year and what not? At this rate, those things will only land in Nigeria when, dated, they would be by comparison to aircrafts of the time mere Embraer EMB 312 equivalents.

Is it by ensuring prompt payment of Gratuities or Scholarships?

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany --

The 4th Combat Training Squadron assigned to the Warrior Preparation Center at Einsiedlerhof Air Station, Germany, hosted Nigerian and Tunisian service members for the first iteration of a new two-week course, Sept. 9-20.

The Africans participated in the first Air to Ground Integration Course as part of a $300 million congressionally approved funding program. The course develops air to ground integration capabilities with African nation partners.

“Air to Ground integration is the coordinated air attack by fixed wing and rotary aircraft against hostile targets,” said Capt. Matthew Roberts, 4th CTS chief of plans and programs.

The United States is committed to partnering with African countries to address compatible strategic security objectives, added Staff Sgt. Roger Frederick, 4th CTS tactical air party craftsman.

Those objectives include combating destabilizing issues and violent extremist activities which could threaten regional security, Frederick continued.

“A course like this is important for interoperability,” said Roberts. “We need to be able to deploy air power forward across any continent with any of our partners and conduct the same operational and training possibilities downrange.”

The course consisted of a week of classroom studies, a week of simulator training, and a capstone event where airmen controlled aircraft on a range.

U.S. Air Forces Africa acts as a reliable military partner in Africa. They seek to be the security partner of choice by working with partnered security forces based on their operational needs, Frederick said.

“This course actually provides two-way learning,” Frederick said. “I know have a better understanding of how Nigeria employs their air force and it’s opened up perspective on how they integrate. I can take the lessons they’ve taught me and apply it to future scenarios.”

AFAFRICA conducts multilateral and mil-to-mil engagements and security assistance with African air forces in order to build aviation capacities, enhance regional cooperation, and increase interoperability.
