I totally support a fair tax regime but my friend you shoot yourself completely dead, not just in the foot because the average Nigerian spends almost his entire income and I mean individuals and corporate institutions on providing himself with 'public' services.

It is the citizen that subsidizes bad governance by paying for infrastructure, security, etc while government at all levels spend more money from oil, loans and yes taxes on itself.

The capital expenditure component of goverment spending, the part that assists the average citizen save money has always been a fraction of recurrent expenditure. So if goverment should take more from people by way of taxes it has to take less from the purse for itself and invest more where it expects to reap.

I have said it time and again. We need to elect a shrewd business men to run this country for a season to change the narrative around Nigeria's economy thus I supported the Peter Obi candidacy.

Friend, if you have to run a successful poultry tell me what comes first, the investment or the sale and ROI ?

When you start to ROI how will you divide the proceeds. Will you take 70 percent for your 'recurrent' expenses and reinvest only 30 percent for new birds. Can you sustain and grow like this. Then to make matters worse you employ more staff relevant or not and give everyone a pay rise (new minimum wage) thus increasing the recurrent then you turn to your hapless chickens and ask them to sacrifice themselves more to pay the new wages.

What will happen to your business is what will happen to Nigeria soon. Then imagine what happens to you and the poultry business if like Nigeria it ia heavily exposed to creditors. Like it or not. This country is facing a financial abyss. Its citizens are too financially weak and traumatised to bail the government out. That is just the fact.

how which the young man can understand what you just said, it would have been better.

Senate bill imposes tax on GSM, cable TV subscribers

October 3, 2019
Sunday Aborisade, Abuja

A bill for an Act to introduce tax on communication and cable television services scaled first reading at the Senate on Wednesday.

The introduction of the tax, it was learnt, was to replace the 2.2 per cent increase in the Value Added Tax being planned by the Federal Government.

The Bill for an Act to establish the Communication Service Tax was sponsored by a former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume.

Briefing journalists shortly after the first reading of the bill was taken by the Senate, Ndume said the imposition of tax on communication service was a better way of distributing wealth in such a way that would not affect the ordinary people.

He said increasing VAT would have very devastating effects on the economy as it would raise prices of goods and services.

The bill provides the charging of nine per cent on calls and data usage.

The bill reads in part, “There shall be imposed, charged payable and collected a monthly Communication Service Tax to be levied on charges payable by a user of an electronic communication service other than private electronic communication services.

“The tax shall be levied on electronic communication services supplied by service providers.

“For the purpose of this clause, the supply of any form of recharges shall be considered as a charge for usage of electronic communication service.

“The tax shall be levied on such electronic communication services like voice calls, SMS, MMS, data usage – both from telecommunication services providers and internet service – as well as pay per view TV stations.

“The tax shall be paid together with the electronic communication service charge payable to the service provider by the consumer of the service.”

The bill stipulates that the Federal Inland Revenue Service would pay the tax collected together with any interest and penalty into the Federation Account.

According to the bill, all service providers shall file a tax return to account for the tax.

I know exactly what they are trying to do. But it won't be possible.

They have never for once look inward (salaries, allowances, constituency budgets, etc), rather, they try clamping down on social media users because they can't tolerate the abuse any longer. They don't love being scrutinize (because they know they are guilty as mentioned), as such, they try terminating mediums of doing so.

Sit down look na dog name.

If it's clear that we are broke and we need so much money, how come building a rail line to Maradi, Niger is of paramount importance to government? Granted, it's in order to build the rail line to Jibia at the border. That serves our people in Katsina. Extending it to Maradi shouldn't be our concern.

Why are we making life miserable for our citizens to make life more comfortable for foreigners?

Our legislators are truly insensitive to the suffering of the people.

What about the existing radio and television tax...I our law makers should be working to make life more bearable for the citizens.
Very soon accessing TV signals might tend forwards exclusivity.....out of the reach the common man.
Common man now manages to pay for GOTv 1600naira and probably the 3200naira max....this option of excess taxing and fleecing the masses is beginning to be worrying.....
Are there no other options.......increase in fuel price to argument removal of toll gate, now toll is to be reintroduced, existing stamp duty, VAT increase, all sorts of bank charges.....all sorts of business taxes......men!

If you talk, you will die, if you don't talk you will die. Why don't you talk and die gallantly as a heroe?

DSTV maybe? You think the Senate will tax DSTV and ignore GOTV, Consat, MyTV, Startimes, CTL, Metro Digital, Montage Cable Network, MultiTV, Daarsat, Peace tv, Trendtv, etc ??

You're saying "maybe" to DSTV because it's own by a South African company? Please don't be unfortunate! Don't let your hatred for DSTV ruin your senses. There are over 30 pay TVs in Nigeria and all users would be taxed equally! It wouldn't matter whether it is owned by Ramaphosa of South Africa or Musa of Kano.

Look at how you senselessly rejected taxes on Data. You think you're safe by your decision to use Gotv or CTL? Don't be unfortunate
Oh sorry, my bad. I mean cable TV

What percentage of working class Nigerians pay federal tax or how many house owners pay land use charge or property rates??are they up to 10%??
Instead of them to concentrate on increasing their tax coverage and get more taxable citizens to pay tax..... they are here introducing new taxes and worse it's going to be on data and call services.
Do they know how many unemployed people this is going to affect??what about students with no income, you'll also be taxing them??
Everybody makes calls and uses data in this country, but how many of them have a source of income.
You cannot escape paying Land Use Charge in Lagos, otherwise your house will be sealed. So stop talking about what you do not know.

We pay toll gate on both sides of Lekki-Epe express way, otherwise your vehicle will not pass. We pay local govt levy, capital gains tax, personal income tax and all sorts of direct and indirect taxes etc, yet we get nothing.

The billions and trillions that Fowler has been disclosing that he collected at FIRS, where do you think it comes from? Thin air? shocked

Is it not our tax money the politicians spend extravagantly to conduct electioneering campaigns? Is it not from our taxes they pay out useless Senators millions as allowances and salaries?

Abeg, let dem all keep quiet there, otherwise the thunder wey go strike them no go miss road!

Go back and read my previous post with an open mind, and stop spreading your hateful rhetoric. What is my business with Tinubu?

I don’t really think this is totally a buhari thing per se..Nigerians make one mistake every four years...we focus too much on the executives, but the law makers are even more important..at the end of the day, there’s very little the president can do even with is veto power..
If I ask u who is representing ur constituency in the house, I doubt u would know...... people don’t really come out to vote for the law makers election, hence, rigging is even easier and since the law permits more than 2 tenures.. we’ve been recycling almost the same set of people for the last 16yrs....and these are the people that will fight for us up there..
