I have heard a lot about the Point if no return in Badagry and I couldn't wait to visit this amazing destination. This place was the hub of slavery and history had it that over 2 million slaves were sold off this island. I am a lover of art, nature and history and I think destination gives a mixture of the three.

I can travel anywhere for adventure and I set off to visit Badagry.

So we set off from Lagos as early as 8am, we went through Iyana Iba from Iyana Ipaja this is to beat the crazy Mile 2 traffic , then from Iyana Iba we headed straight to Badagry. This is one of the craziest journey I have ever embarked on, It leaves you thinking and annoyed at the same time. But I won't talk about that. Then had one of the longest and tiring drive. Then finally we got to Badagry. YAY!!!

Now the sight of the Badagry roundabout will make you forget the worries and the hurdle of getting there. On the roundabout lies the Sato drum statue. You don't need anyone to tell you this town is a peaceful one. from the roundabout, we took a left turn, straight ahead is the way to Seme Border.
Then we drove down to he Badagry slave port.

1. You will see a lot of these funny looking vehicles which are mostly used in conveying goods from neighbouring countries to Nigeria and vice versa

The Point of no return is an island that can only be accessed by a boat so brace up, this even made it more attractive to me. I love adventures. So the boat cruise took less thn 5 minutes and we are off to Gberefu Island where the point of no return is located. I must confess its a beautiful island., This island alone can generate billions for the Nigerian government yearly. It has lots of history and many people abroad can trace back their roots to this Island.
On reaching this Island we headed straight to the original slave route which is a 30 minutes walk to the point of no return

On our way lies the attenuation well. they claimed This well has some magical power that any slave that drinks from it loses their memory or consciousness. It is located on the original slave route, as the slaves march toward the point of no return

So there were plans by the former Governor of Lagos Babatunde Raji fashola to convert this place into a world class resort where there will be charlets and cottages. But somehow the past governor of Lagos Ambode neglected the project that was 70% almost completed. If only they can focus on development and ignore their differences.

The plan was to make this place a world class tourist attaraction with a Museum , Charlets , an art theatre, a massive hall , event centre etc but the place has been abandoned and neglected.

My whole excitement came to a halt when I saw those abandoned projects because we would have loved to spend the night here, but anyways , the journey continued and we were on our way to the point of no Return, as we draw closer , I saw this magnificent structure from afar. what is that

The local tour guide said thats the point of no return . as we move closer we started hearing the splash of water that led to one of the most beautiful beaches in Nigeria

Then as we move closer I couldn't help but smile at the beauty of this beach . The name has been changed from the point of no return to the point of return, No one ever escaped from this Island, Now this journey that used to be a very dreaded one is now a beauty to behold. It reminds us of what our forefathers went through in the hands of the Colonial masters. Lalasticlala the history here almost brought tears to my eyes and at the end, I thank God the era of slavery is over even though now we need to stop mental slavery.

lol... Nigerians monumentalising slave trade point Am sure if Another slave ship came this december many fustrated Nigerians would gladly pay to jump onboard the slave ships, some would even pay travel agent to get a slot as slave in US or Canada....

Abeg O.P dont drink from any well arround there, because rumour has it that water around there was jazzed so as to hypnotise the slaves and turn them to controllable animals that less than ten man crew can succesfully take hundreds of slaves without any argument

To think that i live close to this place and have not visited still baffles me....of course,i have paid thousands to another man's land.

Wow, this is breathtaking. If only our thick headed leaders can tap into the Gold mine in the form of tourist attraction sites in this country
