bidexiii: I beg to disagree. The stats don't add up to any objective observer. Any one can put up statistics for propaganda purposes not least this current government adepth at lying with Lai Mohammed and Garba Shehu both masters of disinformation. Pls who is the author of those figures? Is it against civilian targets or military targets? Because the whole world knows the frequency of bold brazen attacks on military outposts started in high intensity under this administration especially since the fall of 2017. Its public info. 8 Likes 1 Share |

BabaOwen: Generals Ihejirika, Irabor, Ezugwu. Arguably Minimah who should be credited with stemming the tide in acts of insubordination to advance. The combination of Generals Leo Irabor and Ezugwu as CDS and COAS respectively should change the dynamics of this war quickly. But we can't discountenace the current Air Chief who I think is best suited for CDS. He's a warrior. 2 Likes |

Talking about morale in the 2011 -2015 it was below - 0.0. This is what I personally witness, dude don't let us argue. Only if siriusblack 1st thread was not pulled down, most of you new guys here would still have access to some stories that really tarnished the image of the Nigerian military back then. 5 Likes 1 Share |

bidexiii: John Campbell has been keeping track of civilian casualties it's no secret and for ulterior motives mostly to spite the prowess of the Nigerian Army. But ISWAP is not interested in civilian body count as Shekau's faction is and ISWAP is the game in town knocking down military outposts in quick succession leading to high casualty rates of our soldiers which is a strategic attempt by them to occupy the North-East unchallenged. That to me is an even greater danger than Boko haram. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Covert1: With what youve said it shows you have not been following some event in these war or you're just been biased....! Where was irabor and Ezugwu during the heat of the battle .....? One general then I so much respect is Genteral Adeosun and yet his still standing and doing well till now. He was the G.O.C. Div 7; his responsible for pushing out BHT back to Lake Chad fringes when GEJ was contesting for the 2nd time. Irabor and Ezugwu are fine generals and soldiers but they where not part of the army top Brass in operation lafia dole during the dark days. Minimah strategies during the war was calamity. 5 Likes |

BabaOwen: ISWAP is a whole new beast. That the lines of battle have mostly been at the time and place of their choosing in the last one year without any dynamic response in tactics by the Army gives credence to your fears and baffles me. To continue to underestimate them will be suicide. While morale has always been a recurring factor in this war at least under GEJ soldiers weren't really known to contemplate suicide rather they go AWOL or refuse orders or turn on commanders but now there are clear signs of despondency. 3 Likes 1 Share |

bidexiii: Yes I know but there were no military structures to be knocked down 2011 - 2015 like u had 2017 - 2019 with remote FOBs. What you had were barren civilian towns with little military presence except for some few major camps like Baga. And speaking of humiliation, Baga happened again under Buhari. We are where we were before only this time the bad news is it is the military that is been put on the back foot not civilians. 2 Likes |

bidexiii: I will give some credits here but Adeosun was caught napping as Chief of Army policy and plans when ISWAP almost overwhelmed same 7th Div. And I disagree about Minimah, he's been overly vilified but the man had nothing to fight until under his and Badeh's guidance along with Dasuki ad hoc military acquisitions were made for tanks, helos, heavy weapons and advisers. The evidence of battle is in the field. We can all go back and resurrect newspaper reports of the war and fact check. The six-week offensive was Minimah's war and he pulled an impossible military feat. |

SamuelAnyawu: No soldier wants to bleed where he bled before. It shatters morale at some point. Apparently the Super Camps affords some respite from heavy losses in the short-term until the arrival of wonder weapons like the Super Tucano that can loiter, do ISR and destroy targets with precision. It should be a game changer but until then, its buy time. For me personally I don't see the point in sending young men to their deaths by an enemy that continues to be elusive even though we know they are there. I appreciate your precarious situation in the North-East and I'll encourage you to seek for transfer or new employment. The war is far from over and God forbid ISWAP/BHT pulls any surprise cos to me with all the ambushes it's just eerily too quiet for my liking right now. 1 Like |

This insurgency war is something we must try and understand there are most times set backs and sometimes advances. You can't compare what it was like then.Mostly 2014.it was hell for Nigeria Bombings here and there Even in Abuja Eagle square,UN hq GEJ tried but PMB did well within a short period of time. What we're facing now are new sets of Demons escaped from Syria and Iraq.We need to set up the Game I remembered the pounding NAF gave BHT 2016/2017 those where the years of Airstrikes. We do have the weaponry to face them but from my understanding most of these Battalions (Mostly @ the hotzones) has access to them.If not for some corrupt generals.....Hmm.. All units or FOB should have at least four MRAP lots of RPG and few guntrucks as Force multiplier. We are vulnerable to ambushes because we use Light skin vehicles in patrol or transport of some supplies or troops. While we wait for the game changers(Super tucano, Remaining MI35m and Agusta AW109 Help) we pray things don't escalate..We should appreciate what our Men has done since these ISWAP guys came in Existence..Our surrounding neighbors should also do something most of these guys past through these countries to get to us...Cameroon Niger Chad stand up. 2 Likes |

Covert1: I do not agree with the Super Camp tactic. In my view it is a massive mistake that keeps the army cooped up in a few towns, while giving ISWAP and the Boko boys free rein to roam all over the countryside training, strategizing, laying ambushes at will and generally getting stronger. In my view, we should revert to the earlier FOB concept. There should be many of these, all of which should be armed with antitank missiles to engage technicals at long range, as well as short range rocket launchers like the Vasilesk to engage enemy infantry launching attacks. More, each FOB must be cleverly constructed and under permanent rocket artillery cover. The Chinese, Russians and Turks have rocket artillery with ranges of several hundred kilometers. We can as well buy long range artillery if required. Properly provisioned and manned by competent personnel I see no way these FOBs can be overrun. Instead, the enemy will attack and will either be annihilated or endure frightful losses. These FOBs should be progressively pushed forward, with each supporting the other if need be and eliminating all opposition untill we reach the border. Any enemy insurgent still remaining can be crushed under the weight of the armed forces of the international task force. That is the only way I see victory being achieved, not by ceding territory, but by giving no room to the insurgents to breath, by constantly harassing them and giving them no respite whatsoever. That is how insurgencies are won. I like your talk of wonder weapons, but do remember that the Tucanos will be delivered in 2 to 4 years. That is simply too long a time. And do remember that we are buying just a dozen and ISWAP is likely to seek a counter by getting MANPADS. I don't know what the future brings, but I have lots of fears about this shit. 5 Likes 1 Share |

GabrielYulaw: I'm still scared of FOBs. We do not have enough Ammo to support them. I once discussed a soldier in Gajiganna village under Magumeri about an attack they repelled. They only had 3 gun trucks while ISWAP attacked with 13 gun trucks. I think the Airforce too has to improve on its response mechanism if we are to move back to FOBs. 3 Likes 1 Share |

SamuelAnyawu:Look, ISWAP and Boko Haram use techincals, aka gun trucks armed with heavy machine guns. It comprises their main firepower. Our troops engage these trucks with machine guns of their own, and the winner is usually those who have the most technicals. And that is why I said we should buy lots of antitank missiles. It doesn't need to be very sophisticated and both the Russians and Chinese make cheap and capable ones that cost a few thousand dollars apiece. For the price it's unbeatable and makes it possible for our troops to engage the enemy gun trucks at ranges of from 4 to 8 km. As for ammo, our troops should have loads of that at all times and enough supplies to fight for one or two weeks without help. From what I can see, the FOBs make the most sense. We should never give the insurgents room to grow and flourish and that is precisely what the Super Camp is doing. As for the air Force, I just tire. If they can't provide gunfire support, can't they at least do better in providing advance warning of attacks and ambushes. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Suspected gunmen on Thursday killed nine soldiers in Sunke village in Anka local government area of Zamfara state. Reports said the dozens of unidentified gunmen arrived on motorcycles, firing at the soldiers and policemen stationed at the community. Sunke community is just 30 km south of Anka town, the local government headquarters. However, highly placed sources within state government said that the attack was retaliation on the earlier killings of repentant bandits by the soldiers in recent time. “Soldiers killed some of the repentant bandits and they vowed to avenge the attacks. The repentant bandits mobilized their men and raided the army formation in the village,” the source added. Last Wednesday, residents spotted a motor bike – riding gang of armed men at Mayanchi junction along Gusau – Sokoto highway. The gunmen said they were heading to Birnin Gwari in the neighbouring Kaduna state. The attacks on soldiers came barely two weeks after the state government raised alarm over possible attacks on seven local government areas by suspected Boko Haram members. When contacted the spokesperson of Operation Hadarin Daji in the state, captain Oni Orisan said: “Give me sometimes I will get back to you. However, he did not return multiple calls by our correspondent up to the time of filing this report.” Source: https://thenationonlineng.net/gunmen-kill-nine-soldiers-in-zamfara-village/amp/ |

GabrielYulaw: What you wrote have been tried multiple times yet we are back to the drawing board. ISWAP has since learnt that they can swarm those FOBs with massive forces and speed that does not give you enough time to fire those weapons you mentioned. They have since learnt that if they can get close enough in contact with troops then long range artillery and close-air-support becomes useless. You mention anti-tank weapons like it's not in Nigeria or long range artillery. The Nigerian Army has tons of anti-tank weapons from various suppliers even anti-tank weapons with guided missiles. Even some armour in the NA inventory can fire anti-tank shells. The terrain where some of those remote FOBs are located makes it a challenge to deploy some of these heavy armour besides associated risks involved. The FOBs have simply proven untenable. We are talking lives here. The Americans tried these same tactics in Vietnam for over 10 years and eventually lost 58,000 men and still pulled out. Going back and forth bleeding over same tiny patch of land with no strategic military value for me makes no sense when we should evolve other ways and means to annihilate the enemy. No one is happy to see them marauding in the hinterlands but its barren ghost isolated enclaves. This war has gone technological, even ISWAP employs modest modern means of war fighting that has caught our troops off guide. What I advocate is more investment in advanced drone technology that can fire missiles, cameras and ground sensors for troops on combat patrol and yes those Tucanos are really wonder weapons for CT/COIN warfare. Its agile for air and ground attack roles and comes with good armour for the pilots and other defensive suits in a low threat environment. Its biggest advantage is to loiter, see and kill with precision. ISWAP will find it hard to survive. https://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/super_tucano/ |

GabrielYulaw: Have you not been seeing the ammo the military have been dashing ISWAP since Baga 1.0. Or where have you been that strategy hasn't worked and won't work if you like fire 100 anti-tank missiles at them, they keep coming. The best is to have an air asset that can loiter for upwards of 6 to 12 hours at a cost of 500 dollars and not a fast jet for 20mins with fewer weapon load for thousands of dollars. Advanced technology is needed to have any advantage against ISWAP not the old-school doctrine of close with and destroy the enemy. This enemy is not afraid to die. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Covert1: 12:39am On Oct 05, 2019 |
SamuelAnyawu: It is just impossible to have a soldier in every hamlet and village. The cost in men and material is unsustainable as we can see. We must accept the fact we can't kill every terrorist. ISWAP is a smart enemy. It has learnt to a great degree to avoid ISR. The Air Force is there actually but this enemy has learnt how to fight us. The key is to invest more in game changing technologies, get an advantage on the field and maybe talk to these guys - those that are Nigerians among them. |

During the heat of the war three states where affected, so the field of of operation lafia dole was wide in terms of operational field to cover. Since BHT was pushed some of these F.O.B as been closed and even the numbers we use to have then in Borno as been reduced. 1 Like |
