All humans are equal the environment in which we find ourselves determines what we will become, I don't think a Nigeria born and raised in UK will act the same as the one born in nigeria, so who is making sure that systems works? Who is making sure the people are given the right environment to thrive? Africans need to start from somewhere and the first point is to change the colonial educational system, government system and consider panafricanism so the next generation of Africans will be able to develop this continent. Panafricanism because we need to redraw our borders into ethnic states to dilute the influence of the west especially France in Africa, but a stop to tribal conflicts on the continent and also put measures in place to make sure we benefit from our God given resources and develop.

Western govts have always and will always lend their deep pockets to help and subsidise any of their strategic industries or economic arms. Remember the big assistance to their banking and manufacturing industries during the late 90's and early 2000 recession, and their continuous subsidising of the agricultural arms of their economy.

In democracy, as practiced in the 3rd world where Nigeria falls into unfortunately, it's possible for dull people to lead a society of many smart people.

First, consider that democracy is about numbers - whoever polled highest at the ballot becomes your leader. Take note that in Nigeria factors such as zoning and tribal sentiments influence choice of candidate.

If you add poverty, thuggery and election rigging, you would just understand how it is a situation that would defy both science and any statistics you can think of.

Ask yourself the question, when have you seen an independent candidate garnering public votes in Nigeria. You either have to come from a family that has had something to do with power both at present or in the past and can only pursue ambition under the auspices of major political party.

It's easy for any african leader to sell the destiny of their nation because they are not bound by anyone to do the right thing, and there's no motivation for it because others would ignore you, if all of Africa had joined hands with Gaddafi to build the central bank backed by our resources, put in measures to make africa less dependent on exports, my friend you wouldn't be facing much difficulty in your country. Everyone is struggling for their destiny but funny enough when things become difficult in your country and you start running away to nieghboring countries, your nieghbors also feel the heat so no one is really alone in this struggle.

companies build commodity markets not govt, if people in those respective countries were enterprising and understood world trade, they would have created commodity trading companies that will compete with the west, the western companies saw that the people were naive and had an advantage over them.

It's a question for me and you, missjojo. The power lies with the people. It's not clear to me how this will come to be, but examples abound in history.

Just as it was possible to wrestle against colonialism, one day we will find the courage to begin again as a people. This is possible.

There was a country!

Nigerians are not smart, intelligent, wise etc. This is because for you to say a group of people is smart, then at least 70% of that group has to be smart but in Nigeria less than 10% of the population can be said to be smart so they are badly outnumbered hence Nigerians are not smart and the country cannot develop. It is even going to be worse in years to come as the few smart ones are leaving the country in droves since they can't do anything to change the status quo

Because Nigerians are not smart, we will not be able to get the right leaders. Make no mistake, leadership is the number one factor that would set the stage for development. It is the right leadership that harness the individual smart resourceful citizens and material resources at his disposal to do wonders that benefit the entire society. Without the right leadership, even if the people are smart, there wont be any appreciable development. The problem with Nigeria is that the people are not smart so getting the right leadership is absolutely impossible. Let me give you some examples

1. In a smart society, there would be no way in this world where dullards like Buhari or Crooks like Atiku would have been front runners in 2019 election. The "smart" people would have gone for an entirely different faces to pilot their affairs. Would the new faces have succeeded? There is no guarantee but the ability to take calculated risks when needed is one hallmark of a progressive society. When we were rooting for people outside those idiots i mentioned above, we were made to look stupid.

Even if we can't compete with technology and big things with other countries, what is so hard in using our money to build roads, fix electricity, good hospitals etc. so that the citizens can live a normal life. UAE does not compete with technology of its own but their citizens have one of the highest standard of living because their leaders used their money to buy technology from other countries to build their own so that their citizens will enjoy.

For people blaming the whites for our woes, i ask, did the whites stop Nigerian leaders from building roads, fixing electricity, schools, hospitals and other basic amenities for the people? Did thy whites stop the leaders from providing clean water to every home in Nigeria like they provide to their citizens in their own country? What does it take to provide water to every home in this country?

The truth is that the problem is not just a Nigerian thing, it is blacks all over the world. From Nigeria, to Ghana to even the black dominated neighborhoods in the western countries, there is always a difference in mentality, organization etc. In fact, i will say that 90% of blacks all over the world have a mentality that is not compatible with development. In the US for instance, 98% of black votes went to Obama including the ones that call themselves republicans that don't like the democrats anti christian values. In fact, Collin Powell who is a high ranking republican endorsed Obama. Why? Because Obama is black so we will support him even if his values and ours don't align. This is what the whites will not do and that is the difference.
