Equity investors should brace up for a rough ride in Q4

Equity investors should brace up for a rough ride in Q4
As we enter into the last quarter of the year, an equity report by EUA Intelligence, a Lagos based investment advisory firm, showed that in the past decade, the Nigerian All Share Index has declined in 7 of the last 10 years, sending jitters through the spine of investors.

Investors who have already seen the stock market decline by 14.14 percent year to date were hoping to enjoy a Q4 stock or Santa rally but the report by EUA Intelligence shows that investors should put little faith in the expectation of any market rally in the last three months of the year.

Since the market meltdown in 2008, the stock market has declined 70 percent of the time in Q4 increasing the likelihood that investors may see something similar this year with the market trend already titling downwards.

Analysts say sell pressure from investors who are looking to liquidate some of their investments to enjoy the holiday season may be what to blame for this trend.

In the past decade, the only years when the stock market rallied in Q4 were in 2012, 2013 and 2017. All were years when the stock market was already trending higher during the year at double digit growth in the first 9 months of the year. In the first 9 months of 2012, the stock market rallied about 25 percent before enjoying another 6 percent gain in the last 3 months of the year.

In 2013, the stock market had already rallied about 15 percent in the first 9 months of the year before the market gained another 10 percent in the final quarter of the year. In 2017 as well, the stock market had gained as much as 36 percent in the first 9 months before adding another 4 percent gain in the last quarter of the year, according to the report by EUA.

The worst Q4 stock market performance during the period was recorded in 2014, after rapidly declining crude oil prices led to a deep selloff in the final quarter of the year. With crude oil prices declining by around 20 percent over the past 2 weeks, investors are now wondering if Q4 2019 could be a repeat performance of Q4 2014.

“I think we will have to wait and see how the market performs in the final quarter this year. We expect corporate earnings to be better than they were last year but the economic fundamentals in the country continues to deteriorate which is a major concern for investors. Lower crude oil prices and the stagnant inflation will definitely be on the minds of the investors who will be trading very cautiously in this period. There is perhaps a higher chance of a decline than a rally in Q4 as we can see that is what history and our current economic situation is pointing to,” Obinna Uzoma, chief economist at EUA Intelligence told BusinessDay during a telephone chat

Artificial oil price rise three weeks ago induced me to grab my first copy of fcmb at 1.69,1.65 and finally 1.60/1.59.

Now both oil and stock prices are pointing down.Fcmb has sent a notice to the exchange seeking for extension of date for Q3 result.

Big volumes exchange hands in the stock yesterday.I won't be surprise if it descend to it's 52wks low of 1.4ish.

Some stocks may delay theirs too while others may be released too late.

Those people on 100% cash waiting for the adequate time(bottom) are good to go.

It's well

...Sir, technically nothing fascinating about the stock. All timeframe is pointing downward and it recently visited all time low.

If Conoil is a stock I am interested in (for long term investment), I will start buying in batches. The way I see it is that it is very very cheap. However, buying in batches has to do with the company's outlook - management, business still active etc. It has happened to few stocks in the past (Diamond bank, ETI etc). Conoil is not on my radar, it is illiquid.

Let me know if you want further explaination

Uchetoba:
This UACN thing will be like what happened when UBA was devesting from Afriprud, Ucap & Afriland property. About 2 weeks to the day they were going to allot the shares of the three companies for free to investors, the price of uba started crumbling very fast from over N7 to around N4.5. When I saw the price at 4.5 I quickly sold all my NEM at N0.8 cause I but the NEM at N0.55, so I plunged all the money into UBA not knowing what was about to happen luckily for me that was about two day to the D day. About three days after buying I saw that the price of uba started ralling and I also noticed that two new companies has been included in the price list and the two are also ralling. To cut the long story short, I later called my then analogue stockbroker to send a copy of my cscs stmt of acc to my email, they did and I saw afriprud and ucap in my cscs stmt then I called my stockbroker for explanation then they told me those were giving to me by uba bc cbn had told all banks to divest from their non banking subsidiaries. Later again I checked my P.O Box and I also saw the share certificate of afriland property.

Those that sold there UBA before the D day I'm sure they cried HAD I KNOW.

Please let them continue to sell their UACN I havn't bought enough. I even need it to fall to like N4 so that I can buy more and more b4 the D day.
Even the shareholders of UPDC will make some profit from the unbundling of UPDC REIT

But the bulk of the profit will go to UACN shareholder.

The Numbers from my research that I will start releasing from next week will make the whole thing clearer.

Pope Francis Appoints 13 New Chrislam-Friendly Cardinals Who Will Help Guide The Roman Catholic Church Into Adding Both The LGBTQ+ P, And Islam

What started as a trickle has turned into a full-on prophetic flood of activity surrounding the moves in 2019 by Pope Francis to create the One World Religion of Chrislam as foretold in the book of Revelation. With the Roman Catholic Church representing counterfeit Christianity, we are seeing the Vatican working to add not only Islam but the LGBTQ+P for Pedophile Movement as well, and they have already made incredible strides as you will in this breaking story. Just last week we told you that construction had been approved on the new Chrislam headquarters in Abu Dhabi that sent prophecy shock waves around the world.

“For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” Revelation 17:17,18 (KJV)

So here we see Pope Francis appointing new cardinals, 13 of them to be exact, nothing new about that, right? Happens all the time, right? Wrong. What is different about the appoint of these 13 cardinals is that every, single one of them are in agreement with the pope on the covenant of ‘mutual brotherhood’ signed back and February, and on adding the LGBTQ+ as ‘members in good standing’ to the Catholic Church. This is Chrislam, and the addition of these two seemingly opposing groups represents over 1.5 billion people. (The mere fact that the pope is able to form an alliance with both the LGBTQ+ and Islam should show you who is the power behind him.) When added to the Roman harlot, that will create a One World Religion that is comprised of nearly 50% of the global population! Are you now starting to see how massive the end times army of Antichrist will be? This is what these 13 new cardinals truly represent, and as long as we are on the subject, remember that 13 in the Bible is the number of rebellion.

Imagine those who would be part of the members of CHRISLAM

LGBTQ+P = lesbians, gays, biasexuals, trangenders, querrys + pedophiles

Sincerely sir the bull are around but people would be mistaken to think it would be as strong as 2017 / early 2018 cos the macro does not support that, not with a tepid 2% GDP growth (the equity markey is a forward predictor and it feeds very largely into GDP growth rate) and heavy fiscal deficit which are financed via money market that had been acting as a vortex sucking life out of the equity market. Like i told Oga Oracle some moons back funds had not ceased to enter the country since d equity downturn started in early 2018 what changed from then till now was that those funds were largely going to the money market space (check FSDH analysis of foreign fund flow for last 4- 6 quarters in Monday businessday for insight)

my take is that if time is factored in, the equity market is presently more enticing than the money market (read UBA / Zenith Access at circa over 10% div yield for 6 month which annualised comes to over 20% compared to best effective yield in money market space of 14-15%) hence the funds flow towards the equity market we are currently witnessing. however i would expect this to tank as the div yield effectively move down towards 14-15% annualised (i.e. at the point which prices gives div yiled of of -6.5 - 7 % yield e.g UBA at 7.5-8.5 with expected gross dividend of 65k and net of 58k time horizon for same wld be d next 4-5 months

These are my personal take and what currently guides my decision however as a flexible animal these guidance might change if the drivers change (i.e. GDP growth rate / foreign funds flow pattern / size & financing pattern of fiscal deficit).

https://www.abokifx.com/news/investment-trip-to-lagos-searching-for-dividends-africa-business-insight

Good read with lot of insight

Validate some of my thesis above

my take still is whatever/ whenever bull wld surface it wld be tepid and not last long becos of lack of strong macro to drive it

the sector available to play in very limited (largely banking and some few consumer conglomerates).

so we shld be very careful not to be carried away whenever the bull comes to town

Not talking about all the listed stocks in my copy, but that of Continsure and UACN seems glaring.
Continsure is been kept low to allow for close of review meeting date while @Agba & group of coys were keeping UACN low against Nov.
