Lille: How we discovered Osimhen ’Tosin Oluwalowo Lille’s Sports Director, Luis Campos, has said it took him four years to sign Victor Osimhen for the Ligue 1 club. Osimhen joined Lille for €12m in August, but according to Campos, the 20-year-old had been on his radar since 2015, during the U-17 World Cup in Chile. Nigeria were champions of the 2015 U-17 World Cup, with the 20-year old emerging top scorer with 10 goals, the highest ever by an individual in the competition. Campo, in an interview withSky Sports, said Osimhen’s performance at the U-17 World Cup thrilled him but lost him to Wolfburg. “I went to see the U-17 World Championships. After one match, I wanted him (Osimhen). But his price was very expensive for a 17-year-old. “I spoke to my CEO. I called him every night saying, ‘Please give me this player, he is amazing. In two years he will be one of the best in Europe,’” he told Sky Sports. “In the end, the player went to Wolfsburg. I went to Wolfsburg just to see him play. Sometimes he only played for five minutes, sometimes only two. I was crazy for him! “Then he had a virus and had five or six months not playing and went to Charleroi in Belgium. Two months later I signed him. So itʼs a nice story. I lost the player but then got him back. “If all is normal at the end of the season there will be a big move for him because he’s like a cat. He’s unbelievable. In the last 20 metres he attacks every ball. Every ball. Like a cat.” Osimhen has been in great scoring form since joining Lille, scoring eight goals in 11 appearances this season. His goalscoring form in Lille’s home turf has seen the club dub him the “Prince of Stade Pierre-Mauroy.” |

After more than 2 years been a chronic silent reader on this thread. You think its high time I comment. Am so passionate abt the super eagles that I can't do without a day on this thread and I salute every monicker on this thread for there passion for the super eagles . The passion is so high that there is a lot of conflict on the thread. Although Rohr has done a good job for the super eagles but am still not happy with me probably because I love attacking football and we the type of attacking prowess we have at the moment I think Rohr can do better. Finally I want to appreciate the gentle and specific T BABA, the astute SUPERNERD, meticulous KOMENKN, SAFARI GIRL the no nonsense lawyer,ICONs and so on... 10 Likes |

Kog45: There was a time when honour and integrity were revered more than any type of money. When the headmasters and principals of schools were considered upstanding members of society and worthy of emulation. Honour above money was the first thing. Then when you would see a married women from 2 miles away by comportment and mannerisms you would know and accord her the honour and respect due. Now it's a different matter. There was a time we CELEBRATED, righteousness, integrity, honour. A time when men were men and not boys and considered the responsibility of what it means to be a man. Friends we as a nation have COMPLETELY REGRESSED I was at UNN my Father was an academic thier and although there were infrastructureal deficiencies across the nation. Corruption was not rife. Honour above all else still reigned. If you had stolen money by I'll gotten means you would not be able to raise your head in the community of men. Today we have celebrities we celebrate the DEBASEMENT, DEPRAVED IMMORALITY and ENTHRONE CORRUPTION. Instead of celebrating people who been selfless in the contribution to community well being. We now celebrate big brother, yahoo plus, Agbero( garage chairman) , etc, etc. Our entire value system is warped and our immorality has gone so high it's beyond description. Unless the people change there will be no change. I have tried in my own way to make a change but l find people don't want a change. They just want change in thier pockets and that's what they get a little pittance of change to sell thier votes. 3 Likes |

komekn: Leave Big Brother out of the discussion please In Britain, they celebrate shows like Love Island, and nobody has said it is part of Britain's problem, but mob mentality will not allow you people leave Big Brother alone. Has the show not empowered Nigerian youths that would have otherwise been left to rot? Is it not Big Brother money that someone like Miracle used to travel to US to further his dreams of flying an airplane? Is it not Big Brother that gave Alex a platform upon which she gained fame, so much she was able to travel to the New York Film Academy and learn acting and directing? Please, anything you have scarce information on, it is advisable to not comment on it. There is NOTHING wrong with celebrating a reality show that has empowered hundreds of Nigerian youths, from the participants to even the crew, something the FG cannot do. 3 Likes |

Lille can’t score without Nigerian, says Galtier punchng.com Oct 8, 2019 6:19 AM Victor Osimhen Johnny Edward Lille coach Christophe Galtier has admitted that Victor Osimhen is the club’s biggest threat in attack in Ligue 1, Sports Extra reports. Osimhen scored his seventh Ligue 1 goal for Lille in their 2-2 draw at home to Nimes on Sunday to take his tally to eight in 11 games across all competitions. Galtier feels the competition created for places in the team has forced Osimhen to take his game to the next level and the threat of Loic Remy taking his role has pushed him on. “He’s a threat in attack and unstoppable when in the box and most times a reason why we are solid this season,” Galtier told a post-match interview. “He has responded well to the competition for places in the team and I believe the team will be better for it.” Osimhen will turn his focus to the Super Eagles international friendly against Brazil on Sunday. The 20-year-old has scored once in four international appearances. |

komekn: Been there, done that. Sad. Most of the talents around my generation never realised their potentials in sports. Lots of them in East London either working as stewards at some of the stadiums under ‘low profile’. We used to jog and train at West Ham park...not far from Upton Park. We got spotted. Got invited, but none of us had valid documents We never went back...one of us dared...with fake papers obtained from Woolwich arsenal. He got arrested and was deported. We were all between 20-24 years then. By the time the immigration documents were sorted, none of us was fit. |

Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham will begin their international careers with England this break. I will not be diplomatic and wish them the best, I don't wish them the best. I wish they would leave our names out their mouth and stop using us to chase dead clout with the English press. I wish Nairaland will stop posting them on Front Page, and I sincerely wish they bottle their international careers, since they couldn't get it without riding on the Nigerian Clout Train. 14 Likes 4 Shares |
