stagger:Sex for jobs should also be criminalized especially within government. However an employee victimized can quit and find a new job without their future being adversely affected. A student however can be severely affected by being failed severally by randy lecturers for the rest of their lives. Some are even delayed in school all because of sex for 4-8yrs! |

All state governors must ensure that this act is absolutely a crime in their domain especially when it comes to their citizens. Whether in a federal uni or state. No federal employee should be allowed to commit crimes within their state and go free. Prosecution should be effected immediately and justice done swiftly. We should not joke with the education of our children and the future generations or we are doomed. |

Nksleek:. The major defect of this bill is that it is limited to academic institutions. It should go beyond schools.Sexual harassment is in ministries hospitals. local governments and in all private and public establishments even among politicians. The bill should cover every place including families....I advise Omo Agege to make it a broad bill. |

Johnsghana:The lecturers can report to the school authorities with proof and the student will be dismissed. The lecturer if he cares about his career and the students under his care will not give such stupid excuses. If they poison food and give you, will you eat it? It’s all a choice for the lecturers but when the reverse is the case it’s is forced against the students will. This is a crime! 2 Likes |

This bill will need to be redrafted. That means, any girl that cries alleged sexual harrasement can send any VC to jail, within a week of her crying out, essentially sending a whole higher institution into chaos and sending VCs and lecturers running helter skelter. Remember #metoo movement, many innocent lecturers will fall victim of this and many girls will misuse it 1 Like |

Nksleek: THIS BILL SHOULD GO INTO FULL IMPLEMENTATION BY WAY OF SETTING UP THE NECESSARY STATUTORY LAWS TO PUNISH ERRING OR RANDY LECTURERS AND TO ALSO SERVE AS A DETERRENT TO OTHERS IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA. Many students have been victimized and abused by lecturers. Kudos to the BBC documentary for the good job done. Kudos to Senator Ovie Omo Agege who has been in the forefront in putting the necessary legislation to get the bill action into law. This sex for grades issues is really weighing down the quality of education in Nigeria, Ghana and the rest of Africa. |
Re: Omo-Agege Presents Sexual Harassment Bill To Senate by Samsonklin(m): 1:56pm On Oct 09, 2019 |
Hahahaha haha! Joke. Truth be told. Can a girl who knows she knows nothing and wrote nothing down carry out legal action against a lecturer that wants sex for grade? Don’t worry, you do not have to answer. 90% girls does not even want this bill cos it will affect their easy way of graduating. Who cares about school? Na scam na, according to them. Only the few 10% that are serious will take it serious and it won’t even benefit them cos they know book normally. So to me, omo-Agege should pass a bill to stop police and sars snooping into people’s mobile phones. That’s a more serious matter abeg. |

yaki84: Lecturers had been disciplined, prosecuted and even terminated in the past, can you cite a single instance, when ASUU has embarked on a Strike on account of any of those incidence? ASUU is a professional body and would not want to see itself impending a criminal procedure, especially, when all the facts are not known to them, except the one sided account that might have been given to them by their fellow Lecturer. |

solmusdesigns: That bill was started by 8th Senate. Except the modified the name and made it look like 9th assembly did it. Saraki even made reference to it and urge the 9th assembly to do some thing about it by passing it into law. |

ejimatic: YOU HAVE SOME POINTS HERE! But the good thing is that it should start with the school that is the higher institutions. That is where the female students who are vulnerable to sexual molestation are in bulk. The lecturers use academic power to muscle them to submission directly and indirectly. Some of this lecturers even have so called GOOD BOY who are male student that do their GAME PLAN for them to get the female student to submission and the male student is rewarded with good academic grades. 1 Like 1 Share |

dreality: Randy lecturers are well known to everybody in the departments and faculty. As a student, when I was in school there are lecturers you cannot accuse of sexually predating girls because nobody will believe you, they will always be safe because no female student can't blackmail them, nobody will believe them, their students can vouch for them anytime anyday but there are lecturers that everybody in the dept. as he-goats. Sex for marks is not a hidden phenomenon in every dept. It all boils down to integrity and it only takes one case for a lecturer to lose all his integrity. Just go to any university and ask around for the crooks, the students will point you in the right direction and they are always right. Same way they pointed towards Dr Boniface, before he was investigated and caught. |
Re: Omo-Agege Presents Sexual Harassment Bill To Senate by panpan(m): 2:47pm On Oct 09, 2019 |
Sexual harassment laws should be inclusive of every workplace, not just tertiary institutions. A sexual relationship between a lecturer and his/her student should be viewed as professional misconduct, and should be handled by the school authorities. A five-year jail term for sexual harassment is too harsh. Sexual harassment is not as severe as rape. A prison sentence of six months, with an option of fine, is appropriate. Nksleek: This part should not be included at all. Criminal investigations are the job of the police and the Ministry of Justice (state and federal). Those who work in these institutions do not have jail term threats for not acting within a week after a complaint has been lodged. Imagine if there are five hundred sexual harassment complaints within a space of five days; and the chief executive of the institution must act on each and every complaint or face jail term! What if some complaints do not get to the vice chancellor's desk within a week? The bill, if passed as it is stated, will only encourage brain drain. Nksleek: The age of consent is 18 years. Being a student from the age of 18 years does not turn him/her into a minor. However, the lecturer could still be liable for professional misconduct. |

Thank God our lawmakers are getting to wake up to their responsibilities. Though might be reactionary and not proactive, but its never too late to take a stand on the sex harassment issue. capitalzero:Don’t mind him, brain drain indeed. That is how one professor went abroad and did the same thing. Only to be charged to court and he’s on the run from the US. A lion cannot become a sheep in a new environment. It’s even better if the brain is drained so they can go to a country where they will be jailed and raped in prison for at least 10yrs. |
