I was even gonna ask, what of the current port in warri? Why have 2 when the one currently there is not even been patronised?

Mcreloaded:
The Chinese firm, according to Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, will also handle the construction of a seaport in Warri, Delta state, Daily Trust reports. S :Ppeaking in Abuja during the signing ceremony,

According to the bolded, hope they have checked the depth of the sea so we wont start hearing stories of how the sea port is not deep enough because of sand that it will require dredging every month for ships to dock

Its better the Chinese handle it, 30years is a good deal. This is what I call investment for the future, they could have stolen the money afterall does Amaechi know if him or Buhari would be alive in 30years time? But they did it for us

Yup, incurring debt for future generation, the likes of Amechi and his colleagues in government will not be here to face the consequences 30 years from now..

And the railway that generation would enjoy what would be their contribution to it?

Amaechi need to plan a north south rail line for Ibom seaport. He's doing it for the others. The coastal line us cool but the north south is best for port efficiency..

Which Ibom Seaport? Have you not heard and seen that bakassi deep seaport has taken over? Forget Ibom deep seaport, Udom is never going to do it. The way I see it, it's a conduit for pocketing state money

This contract needs probing I swear. A rail track thats already complete from Warri-Aladja to Itakpe is what they want to spend $4b on? Who will save us from this? This contract needs to be probed.

You dont know whst you're talking about. The FG had commited any investment Bakkasi seaport. Ibom deep seaport is partnership between state and FG. Also the Ibom already has preferred bidder.

China will borrow you money, still be the one to do the contract with materials from China plus diplomatic waivers for the contracting company......Technically you are paying back 10 times the value and killing your economy.....

Itakpe, which is close to Okene, is in Kogi State. What is the distance in km from Abuja to Itakpe?

If the distance is 260 km, and the cost of the railway construction is $3.9 billion, that would translate to $15 million per km. This cost is fair if it is light rail built to international standard; otherwise it is outrageous.

doris00:
Speaking in Abuja during the signing ceremony, Amaechi said that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement states that Nigeria will take care of 15% of the cost, while CRCC will handle 10% of it.

The minister also stated that the remaining 75% will be borrowed by the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) which the federal government will pay back in a period of 30 years after which it will take back ownership of the assets.

What or who is the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)? Are they a group of Nigerian companies or foreign companies?

Even though the expenditure is for a capital project, is it really wise to borrow 85% (10% + 75%) of $3.9 billion, which is approximately $3.3 billion, to be paid back over a period of 30 years with compound interest?

They are one of the most terrible people to deal with when it comes to business, very very shrewd. I hope those signing these agreements are reading all the small print carefully.
